Hold on... something's confusing me (besides Saurfang's appearance):We've established from Sylvanas and Uther that, when a person was killed by Frostmourne, their souls are split into a snapshot version (that goes into the mourneblade/Jailer's vault) and the continuing version. In their case it's clearer as to when the snapshot was created, since they were actually killed, but in case of Arthas... did his soul also get "partially eaten" by Frostmourne when he picked it up (making the fragment in Kingsmourne his snapshot version, and the soul delivered by Uther into the Maw the continuing version), or was it always whole, making the soul that Uther collected the same blue juice fueling Kingsmourne, and the same we see here?In the second scenario, then this is the end for Arthas. Not great, but ok.In the first scenario... what we see here is the snapshot version that, while already down a horrible road when it was created, it wasn't inherently evil yet (more being manipulated). In that case, is this fragment absolutely incapable of self-reflection to realize he was duped and helping the same dude that essentially doomed him? Frostmourne was partially sentient... why not Kingsmourne? Also, in this scenario: there would still be part of Arthas roaming the Maw, in the form of the soul that Uther dropped in there.I'm just... argh, why can't Blizzard be clearer about the lore without having the read all the outside sources!Edit: reflecting on this, even in the first scenario, the whole "mourneblade sentience" question still is valid. If the soul was whole, then Arthas would've been sorely aware of all that transpired, how he was manipulated. Why then, is the mourneblade aligned with the Jailer?
he saw visions of them since the others didn't react to em to those wondering why varian is there yet no one said a thing
So bad.
I am not articulate enough as a writer to describe how awful this scene is. People will screech about how this makes Sylvanas look, whether she is good or bad, but in reality nobody cares about that character. Everyone cared about Arthas... Blizzard most of all. This whole expansion kicked off with a re-take on his death cinematic. The concept of his whereabouts within the Maw was the biggest mystery box that the expansion had going for it. Most characters' stories revolved around him. Anduin's corruption storyline had obnoxiously heavy-handed parallels with him. Everything pointed to Arthas getting the redemption he deserved after his character was tortured in both life and death by the Dreadlords, Frostmourne, and then the Jailer... Anyway, the redemption part of it is not even the biggest deal. People just wanted to see the man that this expansion was based on, instead what is delivered is a sad flicker of light floating dejectedly while a character no one cares about (except someone on the writer staff, evidently) gets to have one last self-righteous laugh while Arthas' mentor and love interest scratch their heads. Imagine if in Legion Illidan was never brought back, and instead you get Maiev Shadowsong ranting at a black blob that is suggested to be him before he randomly dissipates (while Tyrande and Malfurion just stand there gawking)? Yeah.. that would be bad.
We know Arthas' soul was inside Kingsmourne. But is that Arthas' / The Lich King's evil voice we hear coming from the sword and not the Jailer? The voice sounds so human at first. That's how I interpret it, and if that's the case then it truly shows that Arthas was truly evil beyond repair after picking up Frostmourne, all the way until his final FINAL end. I actually found this cinematic really good.
Pretty sweet, I can't wait to see the final cinematics
watching nobbel's reaction to this, I agree with him saying how does Danuser think Sylvanas gets to take the morale high ground on Arthas, when she WORKED with the dude who dominated and made Arthas do all that bad stuff? especially after all the bad stuff she willingly and freely did for that boss? and then she gets the last word on Arthas and tells him to "begone and forgotten"? meanwhile, Jaina and Uther just stand around, heck Jaina barely even reacts to Arthas? gah, this writing is just so bad -_- also, if we take the idea that Saurfang/Varian were just in Anduin's mind, why in heck would Anduin imagine Saurfang and not his mother/Bolvar/Velen? all people he had hugely more deep connections with, why wouldn't he think and get strength from them in a dire moment like this? Instead Saurfang, who Anduin only met in BFA, appears to talk about honor? really?
I like what they did with Arthas here, but the presence of Varian and Saurfang perplexes me. If this was any other setting it would be fine but how come two souls (one of them should have been sent to the Maw) can manifest freely in Zereth Mortis of all places? And since this is the expansion of dead people, I *have* to assume those are souls and not just Anduin's memories
I'm just glad my waifu sylvanas wasnt written off completly at least she's still around :)
i cant believe that there are people out there, who likes this cinematic and story.. i mean are you insane? :O The last appear of arthas and Uther and Jaina have nothing to say? And then the fart just disappear and thats it? So bad so bad..
Blizzard devs be like:"Wouldn't it be funny if we kept referencing Arthas, tease his fate, hell ... even tell the fan-base that this expansion concludes the whole Warcraft 3 story arc, and then just completely waste it? Like give it the most emotionless and anticlimactic 3 and half minutes we could ever produce? And best of yet, have Uther and Jaina there like complete mutes looking at basically nothing while Sylvanas is monologuing for 1 minute?"I remember back when Shadowlands was revealed and during the Q&A they teased Arthas, and how they need to make his appearance meaningful for the story. So they made him fuel. He basically fueled the Jailers forge ...This is some sort of USA meta joke from Blizz.
All ends. Just that some ends are worse than others.
HOW did they not give Jaina OR Uther any lines...? We get it, Sylvanas is Danuser's waifu, and WoW is his fanfic. Two characters that played such massive parts in Arthas' upbringing don't even get a single voice line in his final moments in the story, what in God's name is going on anymore in the story department.
