It's a shame there's nothing I want from Timewalking Mage Tower that makes me want to get back into the game. XD
I think hard challenges should remain hard. The playerbase that enjoys a solo challenge has nothing in the entire game, except the Mage Tower, while the casual playerbase who likes to zerg through content has literally everything else. Let there be one thing in the game that actually tries you as a player in a solo environment. People can't have everything.I think the most important thing they could've done was to add template gear, so that everyone's run was equal. There's considerable cheese you can resort to, which goes against the spirit of the challenge, in my opinion. It also meant that some people blamed consumables or gear instead of examining their own play.
I don't understand how the comment section is so clueless about how hard the Mage towers where back in Legion, seems like most people did them with Antorus gear and crucible (basically free for any spec at that point, you just had to mash random buttons for 2-3 minutes max). Mage towers on release (with NH gear and no crucible/extra weapon traits) where as hard as they are now if not harder with almost no exceptions. And btw you can still overgear the mage tower, it's just obscure because of the scaling, but there are tons of items with multiple gems or absurd effects like ghost iron dragonling, unblinking gaze of sethe, endless tincture, and much more other items enchants and things that you can actually cheese mage towers with. There are plenty of videos discussing the topic on youtube and you can find lots of upgrades in the AH at a low cost (prices are plummeting because mage tower is no longer trending and will dissapear for months soon).
I have completed all of the challenges and most of them are easy. I disagree with some points, monk is by far the easiest one to complete the tank challenge on, Survival hunter and arms for Xylem, and if you don't have crusader on, Survival hunter is easier. Agatha is by far easiest on elemental shaman by a mile, every set of adds line up perfectly with stormkeeper and it obliterates them, Twins was the easiest on warlock for me, but I am a Warlock main and I'd choose shadow priest for the second easiest. Protection warrior was one of the hardest ones for me, hardest being holy priest. I would argue that resto shaman is the easiest healer but holy paladin is also there with resto druid. It was incredibly fun for me to complete the mage tower and I've had a lot of fun optimizing my characters for it and I have learned how to play a lot of classes in there. I think it is tuned around you having good timewalking gear in mind and honestly most of my chars had all crafted gear and some benthic gear, I used Prophecy tarot which is a legion crafted trinket which will give you 60 stats and Dragonling from mists crafting and almost all other pieces were just crafted pvp gear. I think there isn't enough time in the world for me to be grinding the gear. I also bought a lot of socketed old gear on AH that is about ilvl 57 so if you're having problems check that bracket I've found a ton of socketed weapons there for 50-200g. If you're having trouble with gems, buy for 25 timewarped badges isles gem bag, you'll need a few but with 500 from doing one dungeon I think you'll get quite a few gems. Use Unbridled Fury, if I knew it did so much damage on start I probably would've completed these challenges way sooner. These will also give you a lot of pandemonite and furystones, so you will be able to level JC and craft a ton of saber's eyes which made me like 150k(I bought a lot more bags than for 500) To farm a flask in Nazjatar you'll need I guess about 2-3 minutes while it costs a lot on AH and it's the best flask out there. War-scrolls work and they're very cheaply made from herbs that cost nothing and just by milling and making some inks you'll get there to make them. Remember that this is tuned around this and more tips and tricks, and once you do all this you'll see that it isn't overtuned, except holy priest, run away from that one, if you miss a global you'll have to start over, that's the only challenge that took me 8 hour. Some took 3, some took 80 pulls, but I'll tell you, I had hell of a fun.
Ive done all 36 specs back then.I cant do it on my chars now., You probably have to get all that legion shiate equipped and buffed.Tried Vengeance, Holy Paladin, Protection Warrior, Windwalker, Fury. My issues are too low dps, and thats on all of them.I tried going full Haste, ive tried full Versatility. Where it makes sense anyway. every spec becomes so slow, and does almost nothing.
In-game calendar is showing mid March Legion Timewalking is back with Mage Tower. No clue what the author and a bunch of the commenters are talking about April or even July.
Lol. Did 11 already. Some of them are faceroll: destro, frost mage, BM, holypala and arms. Played recently as a warlock and Pala. But mage one I didn't touch since original MT and did it on 10 try.All challenges above are ok. Except 2nd phase Xylem fights which are rude gear check. It's easy as warr. Don't main it at all and did it on 3rd try I get 2nd phase (was too greedy on moving out of the void) and about 20 tries to learn mechanics on phase 1. But DK mentioned in the post was such a pain. Did it on 70 try as a DK. For me even DH was easier, 20 tries on geared (DK is full gear also). But the hardest challenge is Sigrid. After 90 tries on rogue can't beat a timer. 1,8k Pull DPS. And 1050 at the end. Garrote, poisons bleeds and ape bleeds on cd, redot Sigrid immediately after blind and still not enough. Literally 1% to win and Sigrid became immune to blind and oneshots me. Random gear with sockets/leech gear. All the consumables. Idk what to do...Also trying now on Pala. Such a DPS difference (almost no difference) and 100k hp pull difference. Insta heals etc, no leech needed. The hardes part of this challenge for me is kiting 3rd boss and overlapping all the other things except DPS race. If you focuses on surviving, everything will be ok but you won't get it on time.I will craft a dragon ingeneering trinket for this today. My trinkets sucks!(
Good luck everyone, I managed to get all class mogs and the mount, which I'm so happy with, I found that the ravaged seed trinket from Nythendra and benthic helm shoulders and chest made quite a big difference, and they're quite easy to obtain.
Don't know why you suggested retribution paladin for god-queen. For me arcane mage was much easier.
Amount of gold, consumables and time need to get gear for this make me corious if this is even game or a job. Until Blizzard will realise that players need spend more hours in farming gold for consumable, gear for this type of content this game will be in bad shape. Old players leave because they have less time to play and they stop care about farming all of this. When new generation of players have better more modern titles to play.
wake me up when real content arrived zZZzz
Nah, I'm not touching that until they nerf it.
People just need to understand that this content was never intended for lfr raiders. You are not entitled to rewards if you don't put in the effort. There are definitely easier and harder specs for each challenge but overall the balance is good and challenges are doable on every spec even in most random gear. If you feel like you need to get some specific gear to clear them your gameplay is the problem not the gear.
Huh, I have no idea what Legion some people in the comments here were playing back then. When the Mage Tower first came out, I was still kind of "fresh" to the game with not much experience and still primarily playing other MMOs. And yet I managed to bring Agatha down as Unholy to about 20% on my very FIRST attempt. Now, years later, after being much more experienced, I am struggling to get Agatha to 60%. The second phase has basically become a wishful dream (believe me I tried). Looking things up is important and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I personally believe my own two eyes and I can honestly say that this Mage Tower is brutally overtuned. Great to see some people are calling it out and I am not alone. Let’s all collectively hope for better tuning next time.
