Introduction
Agatha
is a fairly challenging solo encounter, with several moving parts you definitely always want to be aware of. The mechanics for the first half of the fight pretty much just repeat over and over, so once we get towards the second half, we’ll start seeing some changes to the formula that make things a lot more difficult.
Gear
I recommend a minimum item level of 910 for this challenge, and at least 60 points in your Artifact weapon; anything lower than that, and you may have issues meeting some of the add DPS checks, as well as surviving the damage output present in this encounter. It is still possible to complete at lower item levels, but it is much more challenging the lower you are.
Consumables
Flask:
Flask of the Countless Armies
Bloodlust/Heroism:
Drums of Fury
Food:
Lavish Suramar Feast
,
Hearty Feast
, or
Nightborne Delicacy Platter
.
Augment Runes:
Defiled Augment Rune
Alternatively if you are low on damage you can try using
Lightblood Elixir
but it isn't necessary to complete the encounter.
I completed this challenge using only a
Flask of the Countless Armies
and
Nightborne Delicacy Platter
, so if you're at a reasonably high item level, you will probably have an easier time as well, using the additional resources listed above.
Talents
I used the following talents for this challenge. Some are variable, depending on your current build and points. Bursting Sores can substitute well for Ebon Fever, and Infected Claws can work well in place of Necrosis if you are not comfortable using this talent.
Defile
is also a strong option if you have the
Death March
Legendary.
If you attempt this challenge and find yourself struggling with adds feel free to take
Defile
even if you don't have
Death March
.
Legendaries
Due to the nature of this encounter requiring either very high burst output, or very strong defensive capabilities, several legendary items available to Unholy Death Knights are useful here.
I used
The Instructor's Fourth Lesson
, and
Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish
as my legendaries here, but the following are also very strong options if you are missing one or both of these.
Death March
: Defile and Death and Decay are great in this fight, as you often need to cleave down a large amount of adds, this legendary will greatly aid you in accomplishing that goal.
Acherus Drapes
: There is quite a bit of magical damage on this fight, and the ability to heal from it while negating it, makes Acherus Drapes quite strong.
Sephuz's Secret
: There are several abilities that need to be interrupted on this fight, and several adds that can be Death Gripped, or stunned, making Sephuz a very solid contender legendary here, as you can proc it almost on cooldown.
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus
: Prydaz shines here the same as it always does, by mitigating a ton of damage while also being a very strong and reliable stat stick.
Pretty well any Legendary is good for this scenario, even if only for the item level 1000 piece.
Strategy
The main thing to note is that this fight is all about prioritizing adds over the boss. If you let yourself become overwhelmed by adds or don't kill them in the correct priority, you will have a much more difficult time completing this challenge than is necessary.
Phase 1
Adds
During Phase 1, you're introduced to the first few mechanics of the fight.
Fuming Imp
s will spawn beneath or behind
Agatha
, and fixate on you, casting the uninterruptible
Plague Zone
once they reach you, which leaves a slowing, damaging zone beneath them, if the cast completes, for the remainder of the fight. If you can kill them before they begin or complete the cast, the zone is not created. But don't worry too much about killing these with late legion item levels you won't run the risk of running out of room, just try to leave yourself an opening to cross through the middle eventually.
Smoldering Imp
s will spawn beneath Agatha and cast
Fire Bolt
at you repeatedly.
Umbral Imp
s will spawn beneath Agatha and cast a variety of spells, including
Shadow Bolt
at you, maintaining
Shadow Shield
on Agatha while they exist, and casting
Translocate
periodically to shift their position.
Lastly,
Imp Servant
s will spawn from the back end of the room, walk up to Agatha and begin channeling
Funnel Energy
.
This is the priority in which you should ensure you kill adds, from most important to least, beginning with the Fuming Imps.
Agatha
Throughout Phase 1, Agatha will also cast abilities of her own.
Agatha's Fury
, which targets the ground randomly, and must be avoided.
Dark Fury
, an infinite channel, that increases in damage with every tick. Agatha will shield herself before casting this, and the shield must be broken before the spell can be interrupted. The Shield cannot be broken while Umbral Imps exist. Be sure to save your interrupt specifically for this, as you will be tempted to interrupt the Imp Servants, and if you do so, you can find yourself very quickly dead from the ramping damage while you wait a few seconds for your next interrupt.
Shadow Stab
is periodic, unavoidable damage.
Focus Agatha during any add-free time.
Phase 2
Upon being reduced to 50% health (This phase change can be slightly delayed is Agatha is casting a spell or otherwise occupied), Agatha will cast
Translocate
, teleporting herself to the far end of the room.
At this point in the encounter, fiery boulders will begin falling periodically from that end of the room, encompassing three lanes, Left, Middle and Right. Being hit by one of these boulders will stun you temporarily and deal a LARGE amount of damage to you (About 2.5 million) stunning you in the process. Avoiding these is your greatest priority.
Periodically Agatha will again cast
Translocate
, teleporting to the opposite end of the room just chase her down, feel free to apply dots to any imps that happen to be travelling towards her at the time slowing them and ticking them down..
All of the effects, adds and mechanics from Phase one will also persist. Imp Servants will now spawn from just behind the center point of the room, opposite Agatha, and will chase after her if she casts
Translocate
.
Completing this encounter is very much about mechanical and effect awareness, and using your cooldowns and procs effectively. You do not necessarily need very high DPS to succeed, but you need to meet minimum burst requirements or you will be overwhelmed by adds very quickly. Continue keeping adds handled, avoiding rocks, and keeping Dark Fury interrupted, and you'll win.
Add Tips and Tricks
The most important things to remember are dodge Boulders and kill
Umbral Imp
, executing those mechanics properly are the key to a clean kill.
You can deal with a lot of these mechanics very simply:
Kite
Fuming Imp
s and dispatch them with Clawing Shadows and Death Coil.
Use your
Death and Decay
to quickly clear up Umbral and Smoldering Imps.
When the
Imp Servant
s reach Agatha, cast Outbreak on the farthest one from your side of the lane, and Death Grip him between Agatha and the other Imp Servant, to spread the disease and dispatch both enemies relatively easily.
Remember that each add that dies will proc your
Dark Succor
. Be sure to use these procs before killing more minions to keep yourself healthy and avoid wasting them.
