The anti dispel portion is the most desirable effect. If you fight a non-dispel class alone or with no dispel support, you might save that one for last because it's only more damage, but unlike your other DoTs it has a casting time. If you fight somebody that can dispel or can get dispels from friends nearby, cast it first, it will act as a deterrent for them not wanting to dispel your other affliction effects!

This is a fascinating ability. The 1.5s cast-time make it far from simple/easy to use, but it's additional damage in PvE and the anti-dispel component in PvP make it quite deadly.

It's a bit like a tactical nuke - it prevents the enemy from even trying. Granted, that might make Contagion seems a bit outdated, but believe me it's not. And I've seen UA completely devastate standoffs in AV :)

Pretty much a haha u cant dispell my dots and u will surely die button. Seriously though awsome spell not only for preventing dispelling dots but also for additional damage.

and as an additional note, if a rogue uses cloak of shadows to "remove" unstable affliction, it will not trigger since cloak of shadows "removes" it.

Definitely getting this one, just adds an extra DPS, and with a drain tank, it shouldn't be too hard to apply when enemy is feared

It's good to use in arena when fighting a team with a paladin on it. Just cast this on their teamate, and hope they don't notice it's a UA. If they are still spamming purge you just seriously damaged the main healer.

The damage from dispelling Unstable Affliction can now crit! Pretty hardcore damage, it critted 6k on a (pretty sucky geared) paladin, who cleansed my UA ... O_o

Note: As of the last patch, you CANNOT put this spell on a target after Immolate. You will get the "A more powerful spell is already on the target" error.

A holy paladin can dispel this without being silenced or taking too much extra damage.
Aura Mastery popped before dispelling means the paladin is immune to the silence and couple that with divine protection the damage is greatly reduced.
Tried and tested on my relentless geared holy pala in 2v2 and in random Battlegrounds

Great, they're nerfing it in 4.0.6 so it silences for 4 seconds instead of 5, cause apparently it NEEDED a nerf?
Especially when every caster and their grandma doesn't even feel the silence.

You have to cast this spell last to benefit from it, right?

as in, corruption, bane, curse, UA. Healer dispells, so UA does damage.
and not in: UA, bane, curse, corruption. Healer dispells, (corruption since its the last 1) so UA doesnt do damage

Is that correct? otherwise it would be pretty OP..

Pretty much any dispel is random. This is why good Hunters will put Hunter's Mark on a trapped target if their is a friendly dispeller nearby. It's also why their Tranq shots, Mage Spellsteal's and other effects tend to hit and miss.

As far as this spell goes, it'll be worth dispelling sometimes, not worth dispelling others. Basically, a really good lock will make sure it's on a feared target so that there's a good chance you get a silence when the opposing healer attempts to dispel his dps teammate.

Im still trying to work out how to deal with this lurky spell as a Disc Priest.

I can't seem to find any info on the silence debuff. Any chance it has diminishing returns?
Although the dmg from dispelling can be harsh, Im thinking it could be worth dispelling simply to lift some dmg off your dps. With a shield up and/or prayer of mending ticking, the cost of doing it might not be to bad..?

A: It should work rather simply. When refreshed, any remaining damage left in the previous DoT is added to the new DoT, spread evenly over its duration. The only nuance to that should be that its damage is snapshotted at cast time.

Pretty exciting day today in battlegrounds, was running around healing and felt like i needed to dispel the dps under my care, then instantly killed myself. Appearantly you can stack this high enough to instantly do 2.1m damage when it gets dispelled to the dispeller. That is an outrageous amount.

Patch 7.1 changed this ability again to remove the "Ignite-mechanic" from it and instead allow up to 5 individual applications per target. Patch 7.1.5 will double the dispel backlash damage.

Also note that Unstable Affliction gains no additional ticks from Haste. Instead it just reduces the duration of the DoT.

Does the damage buff from Unstable Affliction stack? So if you have your maximum of 5 you, are dealing 50% increased damage rather than 10% as long as they are up? I also asked in the guide trying to get an answer sooner than later.

In BFA it used to be a short powerful DoT you'd spam your soul shards on.
But now in Shadowlands, you can have only 1 unstable affliction up total but it's a longer but still powerful DoT, and also doesn't cost shards anymore.
