I left this quest alone and kept the pirate hat for a bit. found out most pirates in the world are now friendly and wont attack my mage. doing arch'ing in Storm song Briny flats was easy since no one attacked. They actually helped me kill Pinku'shon's world quest. Gonna keep the hat on for abit now.

**For note if need/want to kill a friendly pirate you can just right click hat and after combat the hat icon should pop back up in middle of screen. 09/18

I was testing what happens when you right-click off the buff. I did not see the icon to enable the buff again that should appear in the middle of the screen.. One solution was to go back to Freehold where the icon will appear in the middle of the screen to click on again. If you have other solutions, please post.

Irontide Recruit Hat Disguise - Applies the appearance of on your character's head
This disguise is granted with the quest , after completing , , and . You will wear the hat disguise when you have the Irontide Recruit buff, which you can apply by being in the Freehold area and clicking the Extra Action Button that appears at the bottom middle of your screen. If you lose the Irontide Recruit hat disguise, just return to Freehold and the Extra Action Button will reappear

I was able to start the Freehold questline after completing The Ashvane Trading Company and Castaways Cutouts portions of . You can use the Irontide Recruit hat disguise on the following Freehold quests:
> > THIS IS THE QUEST THAT REMOVES THE HAT DISGUISE. You can pick up the quest without losing the hat, but the hat disappears as soon as you enter the Ring. I was not able to reapply the disguise once I completed , even when leaving and re-entering Freehold.

The benefit of the Irontide Recruit hat disguise (besides appearing as an awesome red and black pirate hat) is that all pirates seem to consider you as neutral, meaning they will appear as yellow-named and will only attack you if you attack them first, or if you're near them when you remove the Irontide Recruit buff from yourself. This disguise is different than most in the game, in that when you attack a pirate, you do not lose the buff, meaning that all other pirates in the area still consider you as neutral, unless you hit them with an AoE or direct attack.

This benefit also means you can go to other areas within Kul Tiras that have pirates, and the pirates will appear as either neutral (yellow-named) or friendly (green-named). An example of such an area is the Briny Flats archaology digsite south of Fort Daelin where the world quest Pinku'shon is located.

The following Freehold side quests can be completed while wearing the Irontide Recruit hat disguise:

TL;DR: If you want to keep the Irontide Recruit hat disguise, don't pick up the quest in Freehold. This quest IS required for , so at least one of your characters will have to turn this quest (and therefore lose the hat disguise) if you intend to complete the meta-achievement which is needed for and

If Carla Smirk is friendly and you can't attack her for the quest Carla Smirk, it's because you're wearing your Pirate Hat, which disguises you as a member of the Irontide Raiders.

To remove it, right click the Irontide Recruit buff.

You can get it back easily, because whenever you're in the Freehold area, Irontide Recruit will be offered to you via a Zone Ability button on your screen.

How do I get the hat back once I've left Freehold? When I go back I've lost the buff and everyone's hostile, which makes quests impossible. I can't find anything which reapplies it. I certainly don't get an extra action button.
