Sometimes if you destroy all four controllers you're still unable to click the portal hovering over the lake. This happened to me, just wait until all four controllers respawn and repeat until you can select the portal.

Upon destroying the gate, one might expect an explosion, or for the portal to at least vanish. In fact, nothing happens. You get credit for destroying it, but it's still there. Weird ..

For those who struggle to attack the Sun Gate cause your "too far away" just make sure that once your in the water that you swim to the top of the water, else you will be too far away verticaly.

I think it's clear it's simply a matter of height and not a bug.

I had the same issue, but instead of waiting around to open the jewels again, I tried hopping once in the air from the lake. Sure enough, it put me at the right height to be able to select the gate.

Just simply enable "Click to Move" in Interface options -> Mouse and you won't have the problem where you can't reach the Sun Gate. =)

I had trouble with this quest when trying to click the portal and then found that I had an enlarge buff on me, the reason why is your character is often focused at a single point and when you make yourself bigger that focus point is "move down" in proportion to your size

The follow up quest is What We Know... however, it is a Draenai only quest.

The quest text ends "Smashing! We've cut off their supply line. Now all that we need to do is finish them off! ". He would normally then give the quest above which eventually leads to the Draenai tabard Tabard of the Hand, however, to non-Draenai the guy just says "Have you spoken with Admetius?..." so the quest chain ends here rather abruptly for other races.

I had an "enlarge" buff (from Elixir of Giant Growth) on my draenei while trying to do this. I had the gear on the biggest crystal, but I couldn't reach it, I tried everything. When I'd jump, the gear would change to show that I was in range, but of course it wouldn't let me cast while jumping.. So I clicked the enlarge buff off and, sure enough, the problem was solved. I find it very strange that I was out of range while bigger.....

I am so glad these posts are here! I tried the Sun Gate quest three times an gave up; never figured it was a game glitch, or simply bad design. Would never have thought to meuver a certain way under the floating pond gate/head. I kept wondering if there was a curtain on shore with an old man with fuzzy white hair saying "Ignore the man behind the curtain. I'm the great and powerful Wizard of Oz!" ;)

Sundancer's advice worked for me. After I destroyed the crystals I swam under the portal in the pool and clicked on it to deactivate it.

This quest line is one of the timewasters blizz puts in to slow down the leveling... the distance to and from the quest giver to the quest area is ok once of twice, but common.....

Don't use any buffs that affect your size!

It has been commented upon here many times, but I just thought to make it clear. I did this quest today and wondered why I couldn't click on the portal (I have been able to do so with previous characters). After second time destroying the crystals and still being unable to click the portal as it was too far away, I removed the buff from Elixir of Giant Growth after I was able to finish the quest.

Vindicator Aesom at Blood Watch wants you to destroy the Sun Gate.

Description

Thanks to you and the work you did, my scouts were able to find the sun gate. The elves keep the portal location mobile so that they can move it at a moment's notice. That's why the site you investigated was empty.

The strength of such a system is also its greatest weakness. The sun gate is stabilized by portal controllers. If we can take down the controllers, the portal will be ours to destroy. The current sun gate location can be found west of here, south of the Vector Coil. Find it and destroy it!
