If you're a mage, you probably want to group with someone or be level 17+. At level 15 or below he resists all your frost spells, so there is no way to kite him or prevent him from beating on you. Very frustrating for solo mages.

Killed him at level 13 on my Paladin. It's tough but doable. Had to bubble, health pot, and x3 mana tap arcane torrent (had previous to engaging him - recommended) and finally killed him.

Killed as a 14 Icemage. Don't use your frost spells.

Fireball, Fireblast, Arcane Explosion, helped alot, along with the swim speed potion from another quest (to get out of the water asap.

PS - Dont forget Dampen Magic, that helps out alot!

Blood Mage level 15,
When I summoned him I died and ran back to my corpse to find he was still summoned.
So used the 100% faster swim potion, dampen magic buff, another +70 health for an hour potion (although didn't need it in the end).
Kill the minons if they've respawned and then pull him, swim/run up onto the bank and fireballing constantly did it for me.
Only magic talents were 10% chance to stun using fire magic & 0.1sec on fireball spell.
Had about half my health left but might be worth taking a healing potion just incase, pretty certain it's a doddle with a minor healing potion.
Previous post is correct, don't use frost spells.

Once you know he's hard, it's pretty easy.
I did this as lvl 13 paladin:
Attack and use seals + judgement till you're low on health. Bubble up>bandage. Keel him once out of bubble. Use healing pot if needed (I didn't).

EDIT2: Combine this quest with Spirits of the Drowned (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=9274) which you get down the south end of the lake.

Soloed as a lvl14 mage, dampen magic helps tons. Just stayed at max fireball range and spammed it along with Fire Blast whenever it was up, no crits and no Impact procs. Ended up at like 7% hp tho.

I was a lvl 14 mage when i did this, i got him on my first try.

the trick? spam arcane explosion. basically emptied my mana bar, but i took him down fast enough.

Soloed him as a 13 mage. died once and tried again, beating him by using fireball over and over and using a lesser healing potion. I was relieved to kill him only to drown immediately. :(

Cannot be slowed, and his spells cannot be interupted.

Killed as 13 shaman. I'm sure hes also immune to any kind of slowing/kiting/stunning effect.

solo'ed as mage lvl13...
- spawn him and probably die..
- from max distance spam fireball + Fire Blast
- if not lucky with crits gona use Heal Pot ...

just dont try any triks and kites .. pure nuke.

Did tihs with a 14 Paladin. Wasn't easy even then. Died once. Since he was summoned already when I got back, I used the range of the Mana Tap to pull him away from the other mobs and fight him. I still had to heal and potion.

Soloed this with a 12 lvl Rogue. The drawned... :|. If you put a charge of Mana Tap on it it won't be too dificult. Just be aware that he is inmune to Kick, Gouge and Arcane Torrent, so don't go wasting energy on them.

Soloed with a 14 rogue. Easy. Did use one minor healing potion, but that was because the pc lagged majorly as I was summoning him, so he got to attack me before I knew he was there >.<
Swam to the surface so I didnt drown, then when he followed, simply spammed Sinister Strike till I finished him with Eviscerate.

Soloed at 13 mage...again just spam the fire spells and start at max range. If you don't have a health pot don't expect to beat him.

I soloed this on a druid as well....he is immune to nature damage. Put hots on yourself and go into bear form to beat him. Shift out only to heal and then go back into bear form.

Also soloed this on a priest and a lock, but those are like lolz

Soloed as a level 12 Mage.
I died the first time I fought him, then tried to clear the area and died, then cleared the area and finally got to the fight where I killed him.
I started with a max-range Fireball, and used Arcane Missiles as he was swimming to me. After that, I pretty much just spammed Fireball, and used Fire Blast when it was useable. When I was low on health I used Lifeblood (awesome skill) and when I was low on mana I used Arcane Whatchamacallit (Blood Elf racial). Pretty easy fight.
I forget how much HP I had at the end. Now I want to fight him again.

I managed to do this as a 13 (frost) mage after dying twice. After my second corspe run and healing (etc) I found Aquantion was still underwater (he wasn't there the first time). I went back to try him again and started with a fireball at maximum range; sent another fireball and hit him with fire blast just as he reached me (he was down at least 33% health by then). Spammed fireball a few more times along with another fire blast and he finally went down. I ended-up with about 30-40% health and about 10-20% mana.

This is very tough for a mage no matter what anyone playing another class may say---but at level 13 it is doable, even without using a health potion or having the Lifeblood skill (from herbalism).

Frost mages BEWARE!Do not use frost against Aquantion.Even though you might be specced frost,it would be a good idea to spam fireball/fire blast.Managed to kill him using a health pot.

veeeeeeeeery easy as a warrior, 2 main things, like the others have said he's immune to all slows and his frostbolts cannot be intterupted

This quest is annoying, frost mages most certainly will have a particular harder time with this mob, and to top it off he is immune to stuns, snares etc, and the icing on the cake for me is the long run back to your corpse, once you eventually get to Aquarion again all the mobs surrounding him will have spawned so you will need to clear them again and then swim out of the water to drink up for maximum mana etc. grrrr!

With patch 4.0.1 this quest is pretty much impossible for a mage. No arcane explosion till lvl 22, no dampen magic (at all!), and only 2 fire spells: fireball and fire blast. It sucks!

I struggled and struggled with this quest when I was level 12 or so until I abandoned it and ended up coming back to it with another round of subsequent quests anyways when I was level 18 (blood elf palladin). I say leave it until you level a little bit and some of the quests you end up doing on the way will give you extra spell and attack power to boot.

Altar of Tidal Mastery can be found under the water at 71.4 15.2 spot.
Use it to summon Aquantion. When you're done travel back to Whitemorn.

Vanquishing Aquantion

Geranis Whitemorn wants you to swim to the bottom of the lake east of Suncrown Village and use the Bundle of Medallions on the Altar of Tidal Mastery. Summon and slay the elemental known as Aquantion and return to Geranis.

Description

That willful elemental ended many lives that fateful day when he revolted against us. By calling to the lowly murloc to sabotage our rites he subverted our magic and turned it against us.

Show him our thirst for vengeance has not waned! Take these medallions and lay them at the Altar of Tidal Mastery at the bottom of the lake. Aquantion shall immediately answer your summons!

Beware, <race>! Without our magic controlling him, his wrath will be unrestrained. Destroy Aquantion so we may rest!
