While doing this quest, also do The Field of Honor. When the target is at less than half health, click the Sinstone Fragment next to the quest listing or put the Sinstone Fragment from your bags on your action bar.

To reach the NPC for return the quest you need interact with Vine Ladder inside the tower.

I had a hard time with this as a Hunter. I put my pet on passive and then when the mob was around half health, I would trap it and my pet would desist attacking. Then I could offer the quest item.

I had to kill around 20 of the guards before finally finding one that actually wanted the offer. It's a pain, but I had the most sucsess on the ramp up to the Witherfall Ruin.

Somehow I managed to get one to proc the stone, but then ended up killing him anyway. Felt a bit like a betrayal, but I don't think he actually became allied; anyone else seen this?

The quest item can be interrupted at times (as well as simply not working). Here's a tip: Use touch of Karma (or your classes equivalent) to cc the mob once you have it below 35%. Then use quest item. Much easier this way.

It was my fist time on this quest as a hunter. For the quest to be done I had to put my pets on Passive, and turn off Growl.
I just DPS the mobs, turn my back on them when on low health, pushed passive button on pets to stop damage and then I press the button of the quest

Very, very annoying quest. This mainly due to the fact that other dimwits in the area are going to go gung-ho and kill them while you're casting for the sinstone. You're also going to have to kill many, many more venthyr than what is required in The Field of Honor so make sure you do them simultaneously. I'd say the odds of getting one to respond to a sinstone was one in ten, as I killed just about 30 venthyr to complete this quest.

1 A Curious Invitation	Quest start from Dimwiddle 60 62 Revendreth. Go to speak with Courier Araak 59 66.
2 The Lay of the Land	First press on Nadjia the Mistblade 59 68 then go to pick up Ruminations on True Names 58 69 in bulding.
3 Finders-Keepers, Sinners-Weepers	"Speak with Nadjia the Mistblade 59 68 for quest. Go to speak with: - Dobwobble 60 69 - Cobwobble 60 68 - Slobwobble 61 67 Then pick up 3 sinstone: - Worn Sinstone 60 67 - Cracked Sinstone 60 69 - Chipped Sinstone 60 72"
4 Active Ingredients	Pick up 60 Scythe Bloom Pollen from Scythe Bloom and get 1 Pristine Venom Gland drop from spiders ( low rate )
5 A Fine Vintage	Get Witherfall Special Reserve drop from Mucksquint He is inside bulding in basement 63 73.
6 Message for Matyas	First speak with Courier Araak He is on chair 60 69 then press on bottle. Taskmaster Matyas will show up.
7 Comfortably Numb	When Taskmaster Matyas will sit press on cup He will get poisoned then press on Hi body to pick up Nadjia's Sinstone.
8 The Field of Honor	Slay 12 Matyas's followers.
9 Offer of Freedom	Get mob to 30% of Hp then offer them Sinstone Fragment You need to do this to 3 mobs. Quest return to Nadjia the Mistblade is in tower 60 79 press on Vine Ladder to get up.
10 It's a Trap	Open the gate and get on wall slay Taskmaster Matyas that will finish storyline.

As a hunter, doing this for first time, just recall your pet (follow) and it instantly stops attacking. You can use quest item as mob follows pet back to your location. No damage at all (or very minimal).

The NPC interactions associated with this quest:

Nadjia the Mistblade says: At least some of Matyas's followers are forced to serve him, as I was. Free them if you can.

The player offers a sinstone to various Briarbane guards, with only some of them accepting.

Briarbane Arbalest says: How insulting. Matyas is a friend. He doesn't compel me.
Briarbane Cavalier says: I am loyal to House Briarbane!
Briarbane Footman says: I have no interest in someone else's sinstone. Die!
Briarbane Arbalest says: Not mine. Die!
Briarbane Cavalier says: Sadly, that isn't mine so I must fight on.

Briarbane Arbalest says: Bless your name.
Briarbane Cavalier says: How did you get my sinstone? Oh, thank you!
Briarbane Footman says: I am free, finally. You have my thanks.
Briarbane Arbalest says: I have no desire to fight you and now cannot be compelled.

They really should've named this quest Briarback Mountain.

Easy mode for hunters:

1. Set your pet to Defensive.
2. Attack the mob once.
3. Press Esc to stop attacking but let your pet continue to attack.
4. Watch for the mob to get to 30%.
5. At 30% set your pet to Passive to stop their attack.
6. Target the mob.
7. Use the zone button on them.

Repeat 2x.

Pro tip for max cap players: use Foam Sword toy.

60+ shams, I switched to my Raptor took off my shield and my weapon, and just attacked using frost shock once I let my raptor attack them and used the tablet it took a while but aI was able to get the quest done. I hope that helps!

Description

Just as I was, some of the Briarbane venthyr you encounter will have been compelled to serve Matyas. They likely will not want to fight you, but will have no choice. Once they are injured, they may be willing to pause to see if one of the sinstones you recovered earlier is theirs. Free those you can. The use of a sinstone to compel others isn't fair.
