Kept clicking on the fox got stunned a lot then it got me teleported to bastion then clicked on it again and it kept me stunned then the fox stopped moving not able to click on it anymore

Ok, so bugged for me too initially, however, here's what worked for me.

Clicky clicky catchy Bastion clicky clicky Maldraxxus, killy killy Isengrimm (inside the cave.) Clicky clicky bug...

Stand around looking pretty and wait till he despawns.

Run outside, all the way to the other side of the clearing to reset.
Run back in, he respawns and can then be clicked and you get ported back to Ardenweald.

Logging out and in might help as someone else pointed out!

This was bugged for me, and kept the quest in my log for a few days, went back and killed Isengrimm and the bug was there. Just so you know on the last step its not a fox its a worm/bug on the floor once you kill Isengrimm.

As noted by another comment, this quest doesn't directly reward anything. But once you go to the Heart of the Forest flight master there he is waiting for you with quest Renny the Vulpin.

If you encounter the bug where after you click on Renny in Maldraxxus nothing happens:
1. Run out of range of Renny until he despawns.
2. Log off.
3. As soon as you log back in the quest should complete and you'll be ported back to Ardenweald.

Once you complete the quest, fly to heart of the forest and Renny will run up to you with a quest to get them as a pet.

According to a post on the NPC page there's a chance that moving while clicking causes the bugging out. Also being shapeshifted can make you unable to activate the capture animation so he just sits there.

if it's bugged on you on the last part, remove the buff u got, get out of the room and repeat "kill the guard and click on the fox" did that like 10 times til it's finished rip and make sure u stand on the fox not a bit far idk something i noticed maybe random

it was bugged for me two in Maldraxxus I did reset the fight many times but it only worked when I clicked on it while fighting and it worked

Picked up the quest, tried to catch him the first time, and he bugged for me.

Dropped it, picked it up again, and that seemed to work and allowed me to complete the quest!

If you get stucked at last part, after killing Issengrimm, you'll recieve a buff from foxy.

If you fail to recievening complete on this part, just click out this buff from you and repeat until you complete this part. It worked for me.

I had the bug too at the last part - what worked for me was removing that running buff

There's a running buff you get to catch the fox, once removed I got phased out and could try to grab it again and once grabbed the buff would reappear, after trying to remove the buff and catch the fox eventually it worked.

Take the buff off before you engage the boss, then click on the fox mid-fight, boss despawns and you get ported back and quest completed.

I don't know how other folks even got to Bastion and Maldraxis, but for me, I can't even catch this fox in Ardenweald. I got tripped like 4 times and then my character makes a big carrying posture like it caught the fox only there is nothing in my hands because the fox jumps away and becomes unresponsive. The "On the trail" buff continues ticking up until the point the fox de spawns.

Been at it 20+ times now and I've started to get weird look from other players like I'm some kind of masochist. I think I'll shelve this until Blizz actually fixes this properly. Sorry little fox, its not meant to be yet.

If the fox becomes non-interactable try using right click instead of left click to catch him.

If you find yourself unable to catch Renny after completing the step in Bastion, hearth back to wherever you've saved your stone. Mine was in Oribos; turns out the smol, glitchy vulpin decided to follow me there and restart the step without having to abandon and reaccept the quest. Captured him there, got sent to Maldraxxus, rest worked as it should.

It was bugged for me as well. Reloging/reloading didnt help either. Third try i killed the boss at the back of the room. Fox ran and stopped before the middle but this time it was clickable and voila.

For me I removed the "Catch that Fox!" buff and than he started dancing again than clicked him while standing directly on top of him.

While it did bug out with my first attempt I exited the game and re-opened the game and was able to complete the quest, so might be worth giving that a go. Hope this helps anyone else.

No logging out was needed. Just right click to remove the boon that allows you to capture the fox after the first capture and then simply pick it up for each subsequent captures.

It didn't work until I turned off all my addons! Then it worked like a charm, pun intended. You have to click on Renny FIVE times to capture him. I then captured him again in Bastion. We then went to Maldraxxus where I had to slay Isengrimm. After killing Isengrimm, Renny just sat there. I couldn't do anything with him. Clicked on him several times and got nothing, but a growl. I then turned off the quest buff and clicked on him again and voila! Quest complete. If you turn off the quest buff too soon, Renny will disappear. Abandon the quest and go back to Clarion Song to pick it up again and do it all over again, Hope this helps.

NOT BUGGED! Here is what you do.

1. Ardenweald - try and catch the fox until your character turns golden and hunches over. I think it was 4-5 times. He will be at your feet - click on him. You will teleport to Bastion.

2. Bastion - try and catch the fox until your character turns golden and hunches over. I think it was 4-5 times. He will be at your feet - click on him. You will teleport to Maldraxis.

3. Maldraxis - kill Isengrimm. Fox will be next to corpse. Cursor will change. Click on him. You will teleport to Ardenweald.

4. Ardenweald - turn in for no reward...

What helped for me as a hunter, is to do this quest without any pet (start to finish). It would otherwise bug out to me in Maldraxxus. None of the solutions above helped with pets out.

I was having a lot of trouble with this quest and I think I may have figured out how to actually complete it. It seems that if you catch Renny while he is moving on the final catch, it bugs out. To get around this I would just walk up to him until he stopped moving for a second then hit my "Interact with target" hotkey. If he started moving away as I clicked him, it would bug out. But if he blinked for didn't move, it seemed to work. Hope this helps you guys catch this obnoxious fox...

I believe this quest is a nod to the Poem "Reynard the Fox" by John Masefield, English Poet Laureate (1878-1967). It is an very long poem/saga about a fox hunt.

Doomhammer server. Quest is bugged in Ardenweald. Click on him 5 times and he becomes unresponsive. On last click, he jumps and becomes sparkly and your character does an arm gesture like they're carrying something, but you are unable to pick him up and thus cannot complete the quest.

I tried without any addons and with my hunter pet dismissed. Also made sure to stand still when clicking on Rennie. No dice. Nothing worked.

I changed my Key Binding - Targeting - Interact with Target: to 'K' to do this quest. After that lots of mashing 'K' when I got close to Renny. This unbinds Key Binding - Interface Panel - Toggle Profession Book so don't forget to either reset afterwards or change Profession Book. I just re-bound it to Shift-K

So what I had to do.. is get the buff to catch the fox.. click on the fox. I lost the buff, so I went and got it again. NOW it worked when I clicked the rest of the times.

Bugged for me at the last part, waited for the quest mob you have to kill to respawn and killed it again and it worked for me. Didn't know this would work, did a nearby daily came back mob was there and fox, killed it again and it worked.

Don't move when you're clicking him. What I did is stood in place and used a key bind to interact. Worked perfectly.

I caught him in Aredenweald and transported to Bastion. He wasn't there, so I ran out of the area and back in and caught him a second time and then teleported to Maldraxxis. I rescued him from Isengrimm and teleported back to Aredenweald. I turned the quest in and my chat showed it completed, but I didn't get the pet or any reward. The quest did not show active, so I couldn't abandon it and a friend couldn't share it because it showed the quest completed. However when I look it up in Wowhead's quest completion tool, it shows it incomplete.

Note - Elder Gwenna is available for me so the game "thinks" I completed it. Just wish I had my Renny pet.

I did this quest twice. On the last step, if you see the quest mob and Renny isn't in his hands, the quest is bugged (most likely someone already did it) and you'll probably need to do it again. On my second full attempt, when I got to that room, Renny is held hostage and I freed him to complete the quest, followed by the followed quest @ Refugee Camp flight point to get Renny.

I actually completed this quest. However, I had similar issues. I caught the fox in Ardenweald, then Bastion, then killed the dud on Maldraxxus, tried picking up the fox after and it had an animation like i successfully picked up the fox, but.... nothing happened. I ported to Seat of the Primus and walked inside and bam, objective completed. I was then teleported back to Ardenweald and was able to turn in the quest.

I found the problem with the bug
Short answer: Click him face to face, just the last click before every tp, at Maldraxus you do that again but you must stay at a melee range.
Explanation of the answer: Renny and every animation he does he always will jump at the front, he doesnt care if you are behind or at anywere, i saw that behavior and almost 2 hours trying to figure it out I found that if you stay at the front at the moment you click you will catch him as he will jump where you are (In other words he is programed to jump at his front instead of the direction of the player, just put you in the way :) ), at maldraxus i hadnt the problem with the hitbox of the dead body so i cant relate how to fix it but again, to catch him you must stay in the way of the animation that he does.

as of 12-5-2020 after you turn in the Remmy quest for "That Darn Fox " it seems as if you get nothing more than a bit of gold...but go to 43, 51 and Remmy will come running up to you with a quest. Simply click on the quest and you get a Remmy pet !

Bug in Maldraxxus :
When you enter the hut(cave or whatever it is),Renny has to be in Isengrimm`s hands.
If it isn`t,go ahead and kill Isengrimm,go out,wait for him to respawn,get back in,you will see Renny jumping in his hands,kill Isengrimm again and voila :)
You just need a bit of patience :)
p.s.you need to get out for at least 50m or so in order for him to reset..and..I didn`t get the follow up quest to get the pet,maybe you will be luckier than me :)

I went back to the Heart of the Forest flight point area and Renny was there with the follow up quest and I got my pet,him xDDDD

I kept killing the MOB in Maldraxxus over and over and never saw the fox anywhere. Ended up abandoning the quest. I contacted Blizzard support. They said they don't talk to customers and to check here instead. It looks like they should check here too. If the quest worked then the thread of responses saying it doesn't wouldn't be this long.

A seriously annoying quest. Remove the haste boon and stand where Remy crosses a few times. I stood in one place and tagged him as he went by and was stunned each time. I must have tagged him 5 times before I got the completed indicator. Do this for each region. He was hiding under Isengrimm's corpse for the last part. Just had to tag him once there.

What did the trick for me was trying to stand completely still after clicking on the fox to catch him. Also at Isengrimm the fox wasn't there, but after running out and back in again i was able to catch him.

Logging out and back in worked and cleared the bug. He was in my arms and ported us back upon logging in. He then gives quest for him as a pet upon landing at heart of the forest.

Because the initial quest, Catch That Fox!, kept bugging out and he was uncatchable, removing the speed buff put on you after the initial click allowed me to complete the quest. I also had to remove the speed buff for the final catch when Renny is dancing. I disconnected on the final teleport back to Ardenweald, but once I got logged back in, Rennie was waiting for me at the Heart of the Forest. Quest finally complete!

All addons on, had my warlock pet out. Couldn't get it to work right until I did all the other quests in the area. Maybe it's a phasing thing?

I think success might be related to how many clicks you get on reny in one attempt. IAfter many failed attempts, I finally stood in the middle and clicked him as many times as i could as he ran around me.. finally it completed. I did not remove the buff.

Remove the catch buff and keep clicking on the fox until you complete the quest and get teleported back to Ardenweald normally. This works everytime!

It's still bugged, but I think it happens when there is more than one player in the room. When the other player left, I went back out of cave, and it all respawned, and I got the kit, too.

Finally got it!
I had the same bug as many others: The fox would be catchable a few times in Ardenweald, but not be clickable after the last stun.
So, if this happens you won't get a teleport to the other places.
Only relogging and retaking the quest did not work, so I tried something else:

I did the following:
1. Take the quest
2. Get the buff from the questgiver
3. Catch the fox until it doesn't work (and hurry)
4. With the buff still on, run to the inn and relog fast
5. You should come back and still have some time left with the buff
6. Repeat the fox catching and finally get teleported

At least that's what worked for me.

Maybe it's not even necessary to do the catching before relogging, idk.
But you should still get the buff before you relog and it's duration should continue after you're back in the game.

Yes, it's still bugged after you fight and kill Isengrimm. Once you click on Renny, you will get the buff. However, you will not be teleported back like you should be, thus ending the quest. If this happens to you, you can try one of the things listed on this page that some other players have tried, or you can try what I did that worked.

Right click the buff to take it off.
Open the text box so you can type /reload and hit enter.
Click Renny again and hopefully that worked like it did for me.

This quest was bugged for me when I got to Bastion. I would "catch" the fox and then nothing would happen. I logged out and in a few times trying it over and over and got very frustrated. I decided to make a /tar Renny macro and repeatedly pressing my "interact with target" keybind. Was able to complete the quest easily then.

I tried with every workaround from comments here, but sadly none of them did the work. But Blizzard Article 277598 describes this as a known problem with no known workaround yet.

Update: A day later in the morning after reset there was no problem with the quest. I used target macro and "interact with target"-keybind, and after defeating Isengrimm, quest was completed.

For some reason this quest is showing up on an alt that has never been to Shadowlands but has accepted the initial "go to SW quest". Maybe related to the bug somehow, don't know.

For those of you stuck in maldraxxus, once you kill isengard whatever. collect the items he has on him. Hove over him again and note your mouse changes to a hand. Click on it and you got the #)$)@#)*()* FOx.

Also I think this is a reference to an old Disney movei - That Darn Cat!

The fox keeps dispawning for me when i get teleported to bastion, anyone having the same issue, i cannot get past that, any body got a solution :o?

I tried reloading did not work, i also get no quest circle in the minimap in bastion when i get teleported there.

Made it to Bastion this time though but a few clicks and a random sound later - unclickable again.

If you are confused because all that happens is getting stunned when you manage to click him, don't worry, just keep at it. Eventually you will catch him (probably random chance?), initiating next stage. I see comments of it being bugged in the past - as of today, I did not have this issue.

Note that you don't have to be right at him to interact, just relatively close so while you move your character around, focus on keeping the cursor on him and right click obsessively.

After you get teleported, the second stage is about the same, then third stage is a fight, and he will be on the ground, possibly covered by the corpse of Isengrimm.

This quest is a lovely reference to the Dutch 13th century literary work 'Van den Vos Reynaerde', that can be translated to 'Of the Fox Reynaerde'. Even his adversary Isengrijn the Wolf is included in this quest.

Ok on last part you kill a guy click on fox get buff and nothing happens, so remove buff click on fox standing on top of fox, and do that like 3-5 times and you are done.

did it today. got ported around and when i got ported back to glitterfall basin the quest showed as complete and i turned it in. No Renny pet received. logged out and nothing showing in mail or any quest near the flightpath.

If you have completed the quest, it turns out you need to fly to refugee camp (if you aren't night fae) or heart of the forest if you are. Renny runs up to you and gives quest. got this from another wowhead page related to this.

My way of completing this:

1. Got the Quest
2. It would not for the life of me complete after ages of spawning a new fox.

- So I did some quests and then went back and just tried spawn a new fox and it worked! ....lol

It then ported me to a field (everything worked to catch the fox)

Then I was in a small room and had to kill a guard and then pick him up
It would not let me pick him up, so I removed the fast buff I received and clicked him to pick him up (still not work)
After removing buff and clicking him a few times It worked and i was ported back to the quest giver to complete the quest.

As of today, the quest is STILL badly bugged. I would have dropped it except I am a pet fanatic. Took me 5 drop and retake quest. Tried relogging, removing buff, dismissed hunter pets, turned off all adds. Had a bug on every stage where I couldn't interact with him. They need to fix this.

Did this quest today. It bugged at the last part in Maldraxxus so I did what ppl suggested - I relogged. I logged on and after a few seconds the quest became completed. When I returned to the quest NPC I handed it in and was rewarded gold. I left the area to do some WQs and returned alittle later and then Renny ran up to me when I landed with a quest marker above his head, the reward was the pet.

I caught him in the first zone, then was teleported to a grassy area where you had to catch him again. Upon catching him, you are teleported to a third zone (cave). Once you come out of stun, run up the steps and kill Isengrimm. You will see the fox has run up into his arms. Once you kill him, the fox dances for you and you complete by catching him.

If, once Renny no longer stuns you, he is not clickable, I found the following works:

1) Make a /tar Renny macro and place it on a bar.
2) Use your Interact with Target keybind (the default should be \ )

If that does not work,

3) REMOVE THE BUFF, then repeat above steps if necessary.

There is no need to relog, or leave the area. Just remove the buff, target and interact.

Well, after total frustration Tuesday, I came back today and everything worked fine, so maybe they've fixed it somehow.

Tuesday I tried literally every suggestion in this thread and nothing worked, I never got ported to Bastion after catching him in the first part in Ardenweald.

If you get totally stuck, maybe just give it a day and come back tomorrow.

So I was confused and reading many of the posts below (admittedly I did not read them all), I was not really better informed. Unusual for Wowhead. There was one though that put me on the right path, about needing to click 5 times:

1. Accept the quest and take the boon
2. Each time you click on Renny, you will be stunned (this is normal). You have to click on him 5 times in a row.
3. On the 5th click you will be teleported to Bastion where you will be initially stunned. Click on Renny 5 more times.
4. You will be teleported to Maldraxxus, right outside the cave/room where Isengard is. You may be attacked by some trash mobs, kill them and enter.
5. Attack and kill Isengard, easy kill.
6. Renny will be sitting calmly near the entrance to the cave. Pick him up.
7. You'll be teleported back to Ardenweald for hand in.
8. Return to the innkeeper at Heart of the Forest and Renny will be next to him, accept and immediately complete the quest and you'll get Renny as a pet.

It's easy once you know how!

Remove the quest buff, if you can't catch the fox on 5th click.
If you're having the same issue later on in the quest, remove the buff and pick the fox again. Do this over and over until you ding the quest.

My lvl 59 rogue finished this very weird quest and flew to the Heart of the Forest FP. No Renny. I since discovered your character doing the quest needs to be 60 to get Renny. However, when my 60 lvl main landed at Heart of the Forest, there was Renny running to meet me.

Tried yesterday (addons disabled, just in case), and got stunned like... 4 times and did "catch" the fox. It stopped moving and my character was "holding" nothing on its hands... renny dissapeared and I had to abandon the quest and restart it. It's been like this since forever now... :(

I couldnt click on him at the last stage and gave up after some log outs, removing buffs and so on. I used my hearthstone and came home again... after a minute or so the quest became completed and I was teleported back to Ardenweald.

If after the kill you don't see the darn fox at the entrance make sure mine was next to the dude the whole time, had to kill him 3 times to notice him.

Alright, so literally after I posted a comment about having tried other things and nothing worked, I stumbled upon something that MIGHT work... at least it did for me.

I went back to other posters saying to use the 'interact with target' keybind (mine is \ ). While it wasn't working at first, I figured out something. If you can get close enough to the fox so that you aren't running and spam the hell out of the interact button, you might be able to cheese it and hit all five catches with only being stunned once and finish.

I did find that you have to do the initial click to get him to start running, but with good timing, you should be able to spam the button and literally blaze right through all five catches. I don't know if the keybind overrides the stun or if you're doing it so fast that the game has no time to react, but it did work for me. I don't know how it'll work for others, so please take this with a grain of salt.

I have a feeling it might have something to do with what other said about clicking on him without moving, so maybe that's the key and why it works.

I hope this works for others and while I kinda feel bad for what might feel like an exploit, if it were working properly, we wouldn't have to resort to such measures.

On a side note, I did also notice that this quest does NOT count toward the daily Ardenweald defense (the one with the % bar). Seems a bit of BS to me, but whatever.

I just did this quest today and after slaying Isengrimm, I was unable to pick up Renny. Filed a ticket and disabling addons was suggested. I did that, went back and killed Isengrimm again. Was able to pick up Renny and complete the quest.

Keeps bugging in different ways (fox becoming unclickable, or nothing happens after catching it). Add to that the difficulty in clicking it when you have pets and minions following you, and the fact that it teleports you to other zones (so you need to walk / fly back to the start every single time it bugs), and one is left wondering if Blizzard is deliberately trying to troll its paying customers, or has just given up on any sort of QA.

Adding/editing to Horseleaf's post:

Turn off all add-ons.
Restart your game/UI.
Any time that the quest bugs, restart WoW.
If there is a world quest active in Maldraxxus, clear it. Renny didn't appear for me until I did that.

Otherwise, do what Horseleaf says. Enjoy!

1. Accept the quest and take the boon from Clarion Song.
2. Each time you click on Renny, you will be stunned. You have to click on him 5 times.
3. On the 5th click you will be teleported to Bastion where you will be initially stunned. Click on Renny 5 more times.
4. You will be teleported to Maldraxxus, right outside the cave/room where Isengrim is. You may be attacked by some trash mobs, kill them and enter.
5. Kill Isengrim.
6. Renny will be dancing or sitting near Isengrim/cave entrance. Pick him up.
7. You'll be teleported back to Ardenweald for hand in.
8. Return to the innkeeper at Heart of the Forest and Renny will be next to him, accept and immediately complete the quest and you'll get Renny as a pet.

Thank you for your helpful comments. I was not able to pick up Renny after killing Isengrimm. Disabled addons did not resolve. So I did a relog. It took a moment for Renny to reappear in Isengrimm's chamber which had me worried. But in a few moments more he hopped up on my feral's back of his own accord. My toon was automatically ported back to Ardenweald. I highly recommend an addon called "Addon Control Panel" because it allows you to preset a number of different addon profiles. You can simply load your favorite profile without having to select individual addons from the list. That's very convenient for recovering from situations like this quest.

So this is not bugged.

The fox has a debuff that makes him slippery. You can "catch" him and he will slip from your hands and you have to go back and get the boon again.

This is probably what was making people think that the quest is bugged when its actually a part of the entire quest. If i'm not mistaken the buff is stacked 3 times.

The best way to do this is to stand directly behind Renny right after he does his little teleport and click him. You will get tripped a few times maybe, but i noticed i only "caught" him when I stood directly behind him and after he teleports forward a bit.

Be careful when you spawn in Maldraxxus as while i was stunned a mob started attacking me.

My experience:

The quest can bug at any stage (not just Bastion or Maldraxxus).

It bugged for me a lot, around 80% of the time. I wonder if having high ping (playing on a US server from Europe, ~160 ms) is a factor.

Disabling addons doesn't seem to help.
Distance to Renny/character movement when you interact doesn't seem to be a factor.
Binding a key to "interact with target" helps a lot (and is generally a useful keybind): Game Menu > Key Bindings > Targeting > Interact With Target

As mentioned in another comment: If you mash it fast enough you can "click" multiple times in quick succession. This makes it much faster, and does not seem to increase the chance of it bugging.

Dropping the boon did not help for me; relogging did. But dropping the boon and relogging causes the timer to reset, so you want to drop it before relogging if it is near expiry (to avoid it expiring after you log back in).

Simply logging out didn't give me credit; I had to click Renny again (which bugged much more often than not).

In the first two phases, there is a stationary Renny and a running-around Renny. Click the stationary Renny, wait until it despawns and the running-around one spawns, and then /tar Renny.

There are three phases:

Ardenweald: Pick up the boon, click Renny (which starts Renny running around), /tar Renny, mash "interact with target".

If Renny becomes unclickable, abandon the quest and pick it up again.
Bastion: Click Renny (which starts Renny running around), /tar Renny, mash "interact with target".

If Renny becomes unclickable, right-click the buff to remove it (if it's near expiry), /logout. Renny should be standing still and interactable when you log back in.
Maldraxxus: Kill Isengrimm, which should cause Renny to spawn. /tar Renny, mash "interact with target".

If Renny becomes unclickable, /logout. When I logged back in, Isengrimm had respawned but Renny was still there, and I could interact with him (which succeeded and teleported me away.

When you get to Maldraxxus and he spawns He gives you the 5 minute buff to capture him..........

I followed all the instructions waited for him to respawn nothing happened so I clicked the Buff OFF and Grabbed him once more and POOF the Quest Completes and you teleport back to Aldenweald.

As others have said, you need to *remove* the Fox Finding Boone and redo the last encounter.

after many many trys nothing worked for me as others mentioned here in comments but at last i found that if you sudden click on the fox it will grant you the credit and teleport you to the next location, you dont need to destroy your mouse for it and click 5times on this damn darn fox at once,but let it have at least 2 buff left for the last clicks
at bastion it stucked again,i simply outzoned the fox and came back to it and again it let me click on it to start the chase again.

Go to Game Menu > Key Bindings > Targeting > Interact with Target

Key bind it to a key you can easily hit (example: the numbers 1, 2, or 3).

When you're trying to catch the fox, just target it and hit the key bound button when the fox moves.

COMMON PROBLEMS
When you catch the fox, it stays on the floor and cannot be interacted with.
When I click on Renny he makes sounds but is not interactable.

"We have received multiple reports of this issue and can confirm it is not working as intended. Currently, we do not have a workaround or resolution that can be provided. We apologize for any inconvenience while our developers work as quickly as possible to resolve the issue."

This was posted 3 months ago on their support portal in-game, still not fixed, triple A quality.

When you get to the stage where you go to Maldraxxus and kill Isengard, if you cant find Renny, use this macro. I coudln't find him because he kept spawning under the corpse of Isengard.

If you are unable to complete even the first stage of this quest (catching the fox) it may be due to your ping. The design appears to rely on handshaking between your client and the server, and if this takes too long, the action does not happen. The two Dirty Job quests seem to have a similar flaw.

Every month or so, I give this quest another try. Today, I copy and pasted my addon folder to my desktop and deleted the original. Tried it and WHAM! Wow, I was teleported to bastion. "Nice! Either the addon adjustment worked, or they fixed it!" I thought to myself. I proceeded to repeat the process in Bastion and...oh, it bugged. I restarted the quest from Ardenweald only to discover that the first success was only a fluke.

It's so disappointing that a quest can be bugged since launch, and the problem has been thoroughly reported, but Blizz can't or won't fix it.
You'd expect a company that prides itself on high quality control to be able to fix a problem like this in a week or so, not still have it linger after several months, and it sucks to be let down.

I just completed this quest. I did not have to change my addons, delete addons, etc. I am hoping that means that it is no longer bugged. It was still annoying, until I did the following...

I created a macro:

/target Renny

I placed it on one of my easily-reached buttons.
I bound "interact with target" (in the keybindings section under targeting) with 0 on my laptop.
I targeted Renny, then I basically spammed my 0 key as he ran close to me and after 3 or 4 interactions I had caught him. I was teleported to Bastion and I did the same targeting and interacting things until he was caught again. I was transported to Mal, but before I entered to kill the big bad, I created one more macro:

/tar Renny
/stopmacro
/run SetRaidTarget("target", 6)

I entered, killed the baddy, then I used my macro button I'd just made, then interacted one more time. I was transported back to the quest giver to turn in the quest. It took less than 10 minutes to complete the whole thing.

I hope this helps someone else and that it's truly unbugged, now.

I didn't turn off any add ons and just did the quest as I was.
You chase Renny around and he stuns you a few times and then he lets you take him and you are ported. Chase him there a few times, get stunned and he lets you get him and you are ported. Run in make the kill and take Renny (no stuns this time) and you will be ported back to turn the quest in.

After several months, I finally managed to complete the quest! I noted something unusual, namely that the quest and quest progress is maintained through multiple alts. A summary of my experiences in case it is helpful:

1. Started quest on my Warlock. Didn't make it past Ardenweald, quest kept bugging. I didn't abandon the quest but just left it there. Once in a while I'd go back and re-attempt. One day the RNG gods smiled on me and I found myself in Bastion! But again the quest kept bugging for me no matter how many times I ran away / back to reset the event.
2. I didn't abandon the quest but had mostly forgotten about it. I started levelling my Shaman and found myself in Bastion. Surprise, I saw the quest marker and Renny waiting there for me to catch him!
3. Quest bugged out for me again, but after approximately the 5th try, it finally worked!
4. Maldraxxus was likewise bugged, but again after approximately 5 attempts, I was able to catch him.

So some thoughts from me:

1. Leave the quest in your journal. You can come back to it any time.
2. Alts can continue the quest where your main left off.
3. Speculation on my part, but my Warlock had an insanely high chance of bugging out, like 99%. But my Shaman bugged out 'only' about 80% of the time. It's certainly not mods as I had them all enabled when I completed it on my Shaman. So class might make a difference, somehow.

Sorry for the rant, but I hope someone finds this useful.

This worked for me, after several attempts to catch Renny:

1. Accept the quest in Glitterfall Basin and request the boon from Clarion Song
2. Go to 50.43 - 33.38 where you'll see Renny waiting for you. Click on him to start the trial
3. DON'T RUN AFTER HIM. Just walk to 50.58 - 33.42. You'll see an empty spot between the large roots on the ground. Renny will run like crazy all over the place, but he'll always return to this exact spot. Click on him, when close. He will "stun" you, but you can continue clicking him nonetheless. You have to click on him a total of 5 times.
4. On the 5th click you will be teleported to Bastion. Again, DON'T MOVE AT ALL. Stand Still. Renny will begin to run, jump and teleport all over the place, but if you don't move, he will always come back at you. Click on him 5 more times.
5. You will be teleported to Maldraxxus, right outside a cave. There's a warrior fighting a mob at the entrance, but there's no need to fight, as soon as you get closer, they'll phase away. Enter the place, and you'll see Renny dancing in front of a big creature named Isengard. Kill him.
6. Click on Renny and you'll be teleported back to Glitterfall Basin for hand-in. You'll notice the fox is gone.
7. Now talk with the flight master in Glitterfall, to request a flight to Heart of the Forest. Renny will be waiting for you as soon as you take land, next to Derwynnthlmn. Talk with him, and he'll give you the Renny the Vulpin quest, which rewards you with Renny as a pet. You don't have to do anything, just accept and get him!

Just wanted to share my experience with the final part where you kill the guy.

I killed him and like many others interacting with renny did nothing. Than something strange happened.

After clicking on him several times I grew frustrated and tried to hearth. Next thing I know I am in Ardenweld next to the quest turn in and the final part is complete!

Amazing game 10/10. Turned in and then flew to Heart of the forest and renny was waiting for me there!

Some suggestions work sometimes only to get me to Maldraxus or Bastion where another bug causes me to stand there like a dumbass wondering why i even bother. I finally got around to doing this quest today, 7/25/21
When I got to the Bastion part, after interacting 5 times nothing happened. So I teleported to Org, then took the portal back to Oribos. I was on my way to the flight master to go back to Bastion when I noticed Renny in Oribos on my minimap. I went to him, interacted 5 times and got teleported to Maldraxxus. Everything worked smoothly from that point forward.

A possible fix for this:
I have a "interact with target" keybind, if you press if fast (even while stunned) you should be able to get the last click in before the bug happens and catch the fox.
The option for the keybind is under: key bindings > targeting > interact with target

So after much reading and trying to get this fricken thing, I solved the problem with Renny the worst quest design at any point in human history;

Disable all your addons from character screen.

Click the stupid thing 5 times you'll get ported to Bastion

DON'T PANIC

Log out, and back in, Renny will be where you started, don't bother chasing him around without logging out and back in.

Get ported to Maldraxxus, kill mobs and the lame boss with what is possibly the most archaic Ui in 2021 that filthy humans are STILL paying for.

Relog (again)

Click the little verminous filth that represents the Blizzard of 2021

Remove the buff with a careful right click, reminding yourself of how terrible the default Ui really is.

Back to Ardenweald.

Log out.

Log back in for the final and 9,000th time (could be just over 9k but the scanner is broken)

Collect a pet you'll probably never enjoy, use or even care for because it's there to remind you that despite billions in revenue over many years, a corporation is incapable of making a simple quest that would have many smaller indy companies sweating over and fixing within mere days.

READ THIS TO GET RENNY:
1. Turn off all addons
2. Abandon quest

Here's the low down on this stupidly borked quest. Turns out everything that has been written as "solutions" are completely wrong.

Your addons don't matter.
Logging in and out doesn't matter.
Right-clicking the buff off actually stops you completely since it de-spawns Remy. So whoever mentioned that is deliberately trolling you.
Working with or without hunter pets doesn't matter.
Macros don't matter.
Interact key bindings don't matter.
Dancing naked under the solstice moonlight while reciting the cast of The Sound of Music doesn't matter.

All that stuff doesn't matter.

Turns out, there is only ONE thing that matters: Your ping/latency. If your latency is anything higher than ~100ms (home or server), you will have problems with this quest. Most likely it will be impossible for you to complete outside of fluke low pings (which is what the supposed "solutions" that have been posted thus far about it have conflated). People have assumed that whatever they did solved the issue when in reality what actually happened was whatever they did just happened to coincide with a low ping moment on their connection. It is entirely due to your latency as to whether you will be able to complete this quest or not. Nothing else.

Incidentally, this is the exact same issue that plagues the Revendreth Dredger WQ.

Edit: Thanks to Brettski89 who finally managed to figure this out. His was the first cheese work around that actually works. I have slightly amended his instructions to make them a bit clearer as follows:

Step 1: Obtain the Malfunctioning Goliath Gauntlet toy.
Step 2: Start the Quest.
Step 3: Don't pick up the fox, just use the toy to kill Renny (this should tick off the first step of the quest and allow you to progress).
Step 4: Make your way to Bastion but again, do NOT click him. Just kill him again with the Malfunctioning Goliath Gauntlet. This will mark this part of the quest completed and you will be able to progress.
Step 5: Head to Maldraxxus and kill the quest mob.
Step 6: When Renny spawns near his corpse, spam-click him quickly. If Renny doesn't spawn, run out of the cave to a little ways and then run back in. Keep doing this and re-killing the quest mob until Renny spawns.
Step 7. Once you have successfully captured Renny, head back to Ardenweald to complete this stupid AF chain!

So, after all this time, I have finally found a way to complete this quest, that has so far worked for both my friend and myself.
Step 1: Obtain Malfunctioning Goliath Gauntlet
Step 2: Start the Quest.
Step 3: Don't pick up the fox, just use the toy until the fox gets dusted (this should tick off the first step of the quest and allow you to progress)
Step 4: Make your way to Bastion and dust him again!
Step 5: Head to Mally and kill the quest Mob.
Step 6: Stand on top of Renny and spam-click him.
(if you have any issues with this step, you can drop the "running buff" leave the cave area fair enough to phase out, and then go back and kill the NPC)
Step 7: Hand in quest.
Step 8: Head to the Heart of the Forest and Renny should appear with another quest to add him to your party!

Bugged Majorly for me too Removed buffs, reloaded UI , logged out and In, disabled ALL addons, Clicked him enough that I glowed gold as if teleporting then nadaaa. Been trying since shadow bloody lands started....really aggravated it it still bugged!

I can't believe we're in 2022 and this stupid quest is still broken.
I just came back to the game after an almost 8 month break and when I went to try it it's still the same crap.
I have been reporting this quest on the bug report forums regularly since DAY ONE and never ever I got even an "we're working on it" from a GM.
It's pathetic.

After months of trying to do this quest, and never being able to complete catching him, it seems like the latency isn't an issue anymore. I live in the US, and play on EU, so I've got a loooot of latency. Caught him today on the first try. So, if anyone else gave up because it kept lagging them out, maybe retry? Blizzard might have done something about it.

Yes, this appears to have been finally fixed.

Tip with any of these "click the moving object" quests: Enable Click to Move (Game Menu>Interface>Mouse).

Usually in order to complete a successful "click" two factors have to be present, Within Range and Accurate Targeting. With Click to Move you only need to fulfil the latter, as your toon will follow the target on a successful click until within range, then "touch" the target.

Jesus this &*!@ is impossible if you have ground clutter set to all the way on max in Bastion. After I turned the ground clutter all the way down, it was super easy. All you have to do is stand still and let the little bastard come up to you and click him five times.

Finally got that darn fox kit Renny. No tricks, just persistence.

As one person says, you need accurate clicking.
You will be stunned. Just beep clicking.

When you turn gold, you have him.

Steps :
1. Acquire the quest. Dismiss any pet or demon (see tip below).
2. Ask the questgiver for the boon to see Renny.
3. Click on Renny.
4. Repeat step 3 until you turn gold.
5. Repeat step 3 until you turn gold.
6. Kill Isengrimm. You will see Renny on him. Remember to recall pet or demon for the fight.
7. Pick up Renny from the feet of Isengrimm's corpse.
8. Hand in.

Tips :
1. Do NOT try to do this with either or both the campaign quests Totem Eclipse or Big Problem, Little Vorkai active because you will have an annoying Hunt-Captain Korayn in the way beside you.
2. Hunters, Warlocks etc dismiss pets / demons as they will get in the way
3. Dismis any pets following you.
4. (UNTESTED) A Creepy Crate pet may assist because it eats any nearby critters.

Managed to finish this quest when my ping was around 40ms. One tip I would offer is that the first few clicks are key as Renny won't be too far from where you first click on him. Once it gets running, it's hard to catch up to him and click. Once you pass the 1st stage, the rest seemed easy enough.

The pesky little fox is fast, but do you know what is faster?
No, not 'clicking' (with the mouse, sorry clickers), but the use of W-A-S-D and your personal set up keybind to interact with targets, here's how:

Go to MENU>OPTIONS>GAMEPLAY_CONTROLS> Activate 'Enable Interact Key'
Still within GAMEPLAY but go into KEYBINDINGS> Expand 'Targeting' and set 'Interact With Target' to your preferred keybind (you'll use this after you targetted the little pest)
Go talk with Clarion Song, pick up the quest and talk again to get buffed (to see the fox nearby). Target it, get close and start spamming the keybind, while turning/walking closer with the Movement keys above (he's really fast, so trying to use the cursor to 'click' on it can be tougher, use the keybind.
..? Profit, done in few seconds/minutes, even with almost 300ms here.

You could use only the 'Interact With Target' keybind here, but with the one from line '1', anything that gets 'close and in front of you' is 'automatically selected' by the game, and you'll use the same keybind on it, that you set up on '2'. You could use also, only the '1' targeting, but you could turn to a clickable object or npc, and make it harder. The '2' options, might prevent that, both options active, make it so that the little pest won't get off your 'clicks' (might even be able to land more than one click in the same timeframe).

Hope it helped you, next part is easier, basically just get to the Flight path near the Heart of the Forest, the one to the 'right of it' (that those that didn't chose/use that covenant as their base).

May, 2023 - don't know if it's been made simpler or if I got lucky but I got him on the second try. If I can do this - anyone can. Seriously. Between multiple concussions, and a stroke - I don't have a lot of control in my hands left. Chances are good that you're more nimble than I am so just go for it.

Get the buff, then get ready for him to zip around. Once you "catch" him - he teleports you around a bit and you have to catch him a couple more times. Be prepared for at least one fight. Your pets teleport too - even if they're not near you when you catch him. (I made mine wait for me out of the way).
I used the keyboard for movement, but mostly tried to hold still in a central location. I used my trackball to target him.
