Choosing Nemea (Larion) enables you to buy from her Larion Treats, which in turn can be used to make the tamed Larion follow you around as a pet for 10 minutes.
There is also currently no limit on the amount of Larion that can follow you which is pretty amazing.

I would guess that choosing the other side -> Pelodis (Phalynx), would enable you to borrow 'your' Phalynx as you could during the quests.
But it would be nice if someone who went this route could confirm both this idea and if they're unable to buy Larion Treats.

I chose her, she told me "there is more bonding to be done," etc. but she is not selling the larion treats to me, only water. I was actually hoping for a lil cub as a reward, but oh well. Still, wish I could have a tame larion friend. Does anyone else have this bug?

I had a big dillema chosing between the two, but ultimately I went with Pelotis (Phalynx).
Right after that Nemea said "Enjoy your soulless soldiers" and I'm like... Woman, you're using animal's trust for them to die in a battle.

Needless to say, I stopped feeling conflicted about my choice immediately after that line.

Even if it's only a hint of possibility of a flying mount, clearly the choice is Larion.

The only way Phalynx would be in any way superior is if five of them came together to form a super-robot-cat.

At this point, with the information given, pick the one that you like the looks of better! If is for a mount, will most likely have similar abilities such as flying. For right now, if you are going for achievements, you will need to complete this as it is one step in the achievement..

I completed this quest today on my Kyrian. I chose Pelodis (I couldn't find any data on Nemea or Pelodis). You can make this choice earlier but the result is the follower you get at renown 4.

Pelodis has the following stats: melee DPS with Phalynx Flash: Pelodis enlists a Phalynx to charge into battle, dealing 49 damage to the farthest enemy.

I can't imagine that Nemea would be different, but I don't have another Kyrian to test with.

Nemea has the following stats: 385 HP melee DPS with 33 attack and Larion Leap: Nemea enlists a Larion friend to leap into battle, dealing 33 physical damage to the farthest enemy.

I'll update Pelodis' level 1 stats when I get them.

For those that had not any Covenant Quest appeared as for the 2nd week of the launch , they required to do the Sidequests which are arround the area at 54.75|41.38 and 57.26|39.27 after they do those quests eventualy Nemea will give them the Pride or Unit quest to increase their renown.

I wanted to note that once you complete this quest as Kyrian you will go back to Elysian Hold and whichever one you chose you will be able to have as a companion for your mission table. Pelodis Nemea

Lol harder choice than picking Covenant :P Well I just ended up picking Pelodis' side cause I like the look and sound of those mechanical cats a bit more plus my favorite profession is engineering. Though I would agree more with Nemea on her philosophy but then again training wild beasts as hunting pets isn't right either probably they should be free.

Nemea has a very... odd relationship with her larion. Read the quest text for yourself and see for yourself.

While I appreciate her honesty and enthusiasm, in the end she creeped me out.

And as much as I was incredibly annoyed at Pelotis for basically "using" me in order to go track down one of his robot cats (as if he actually cared about some "so-called" competition with Nemea), his candor was refreshing about the purpose of the cats he built. I appreciated that.

I also went with Pelotis because his eventual "companion" status provides holy damage, unlike Nemea who just provides physical damage. I have no idea how useful that is, but it seemed somewhat unique. (This is only if you go Kyrian, which my character won't so that's beside the point).

Considering how tedious and annoying a couple of these quests were, I'd say both of them are wrong in arguing who has the better companion.
On, the other hand, Pelodis's side of things didn't force me to do a Superman 64 quest, so I sided with him.

Quest Name:	Start and description
1 Success Without Soul	Quest take from Koros in The Eternal Hall Bastion 43 41. You need to fly to Pelodis 54 41
2 Phalynx Malfunction	You need to find Gatamatos He is located on 54 43 and return him to 55 41. You can do this quest together with Resource Drain.
3 Resource Drain	Use Anima Drainer on 5 Gilded Cloudstrider. Do it before fight.
4 We Can Rebuild Him	"First press on Gatamatos 55 41 then go to 54 40. To rebuild you will need: - 3 Forgefire Engineer - 1 Anima Barrel - 5 Reinforced Armor All you can find next to forge. Then you need do 5 Reinforced Armor by pressing on them. then speak with Pelodis"
5 Combat Drills	First press on Gatamatos 55 41 then go to Hall of Beasts 55 42 enterence. Then kill 8 mobs inside. Do this quest together with Laser Location and Superior Programming
6 Laser Location	First press on Gatamatos 55 41 then go to Hall of Beasts 55 42 enterence. Then use spell on Extra Bar when close to gem ( small on ground inside cave ) Gatamatos will get Training Gem you need 6 of them.
7 Superior Programming	Go to Hall of Beasts 55 42 enterence and slay Leonid after enter on left side.
8 Tactical Formation	In main was 1 mid 2 mid 3 back one. then put Gatamatos back to his place.
9 Antiquated Methodology	Go to Nemea 57 39
10 Part of the Pride	Press on 5 Tamed Larion they are around.
11 All Natural Chews	Get 5 Cloudstrider Antler by killing Gilded Cloudstrider. This quest You can do together with Larion at Large
12 Larion at Large	Find Andira and follow Her until able to press on is after return to Nemea 57 39.
13 With Lance and Larion	Slay 5 Cloudfeather Greatwing but Before attack use on them Nemea's Javelin. You can do this quest together with Providing for the Pack.
14 Providing for the Pack	Get 10 Cloudfeather Essence is drop from Juvenile Cloudfeather.
15 On Larion Wings	Jump on Andira and fly thru 10 blue circles.
16 Pride or Unit	Go to 55 39 and pick between Pelodis or Nemea Storyline is finish but After that You can Fly to The Eternal Hall Bastion 43 41 and get new adwenturer ( is depend what did You pick ).

Each one gives an option to speak with them before choosing a side.

Pelodis

Pelodis says: Phalynx exhibit exceptional understanding. They accept and follow commands with ease and never disagree or question.
Pelodis says: For just the effort of occasional maintenance and tuning, you have a perfect partner crafted specifically to your needs.

Nemea

Nemea says: Forging a bond with even a single larion is no easy feat. They are particular beings, noble and stubborn.
Nemea says: The process of earning their trust is fulfilling to the soul. There is no better feeling than partnership with a larion who respects you.

Depending on who you choose, this quest will either reward Pelodis or Nemea as a follower, but only at Rank 4 Kyrian Renown.

After turning in this quest, the Obedient Phalynx can still be picked up by clicking on Gatamatos, but for me it disappeared immediately after leaving the area that the phalnyx quests were in. I chose Nemea, so I'm not sure if choosing Pelodis would cause the phalynx to stick around longer, or not. Going back to Nemea will allow players to purchase Ambroria Dew, Purified Skyspring Water, and Larion Treats from her, but that may be the case for all players who have completed this quest line and have also looted the Larion Tamer's Harness. Even if she does not sell those items to players who choose Pelodis, the Larion Treats could always be gotten as a drop from Basilofos, King of the Hill.

It seems like the only real perk to choosing one or the other is the Follower you get at Kyrian Renown Rank 4, so go ahead and choose the one you like best without worrying that you're going to miss out!

The choice only affects characters in the Kyrian covenant

I chose Phalynx on one character and Larion on another. Both characters can now have Gatamatos and Lentios as guardians simultaneously, however:

Gatamatos is limited to the Forgefire Outpost, Namea's Retreat, The Golden Pasture & Greatwing Roost areas, but has no time limit
Lentios requires Larion Treats and can be taken all over Bastion, but only lasts for 10 minutes

This choice has absolutely nothing to do with mounts. If you want any of the Kyrian specific mounts you just need to be in the Kyrian covenant and progress accordingly

NOTE FOR KYRIAN COVENANT CHARACTERS:
If you chose Phalynx you will have Pelodis as an companion. If you side with Larion you will have Nemea as a companion. Both attack the furthest enemy and you cannot have both on the same character. The only difference I can see is that Pelodis does Holy damage and Nemea does Physical damage. I cannot say which one has a clear upside over the other since ideal damage type is dependent on the adventures available

Started my choice based on the better world quest (farm a group of mobs better than buggy companion in dingy cave any day), and cemented by how much of a %^&*!@ Pelodis is. Plus, those kitties so cute.

If you want to minmax this choice, choose Pelodis (Phalynx). The only difference is the Kyrian mission table follower you receive and Pelodis is better than Nemea. After choosing Pelodis, you can still buy Larion treats from Nemea, tame Larion with them and do the Larion world quest. And a mount was never released for this choice.

The followers have the same autohits and healthpoints. The difference is the ability. Pelodis does 99 damage with 3 rounds cooldown. This is 99/4=24.75 damage per round. Nemea does 66 damage with 2 rounds cooldown. This is 66/3=22 damage per round. Nemea is only better for battles that last exactly 4 rounds because in that case she can use her ability twice while Pelodis has to wait one more turn and his higher damage per round isn't better than that yet or if Pelodis would overdamage hard. Pelodis also has a better maximum synergy with Cromas and in the cases that combo doesn't work you can simply use the similar Apolon or Hermestes with Cromas.
