You have to stand near the lava lake, on the north 'shore', where Blazerunner is. Don't stand in the lake (it will kill you) or on the other side of the lake (it won't work).

Both locations of 52,42 for the ramp up the mountain and 48,48 as to where to stand for the lake were of great help. Solo'd as a 56 hunter which was very easy to do. Took all of 5 minutes.

For clarification, you must stand at 48,48 on the SOUTH shore of the lake, below Blazerunner. There is a river of sorts coming out of the south end of the lake, I stood there and was able to forge the key.

Careful with pets here that are on Attack or Defense mode.
Sometimes this pool have some fire shooting creeps in it. If you're pet is gonna run into them and into the lava, he will most likely die. :}

When the item is used it forms a green aura around you and shakes the screen (Pretty cool huh?) You can stand on the other side you just have to be more to the south than north

It's also nice to have these two quests in your quest log since they can both be completed by or on the mountain. =)

Um... anyone else notice that this says to return to "Chillwind Point" and not "Chillwind Camp"? Chillwind Point is in Alterac Mountains.

Erm, maybe that's because it IS called Chillwind Point....

-I read a few other quests concerning Chillwind Point. They all said it was Chillwind Point.

-I hovered over Chillwind Point on my minimap. It said Chillwind Point.

-I even WENT to Chillwind Point, in the south point of WPL with Ally NPCs and Argent Dawn ones. It was called Chillwind Point.

I honestly have no idea what you're babbling on about armuri...

Just completed this and found that it won't work standing next to the edge where Blazerunner's cave is located. Won't work standing in the stream either as an elemental in the water keeps getting you into combat. So, I walked over to the opposite side across the stream going down the hill and completed the quest with no problem and not combat issues. Don't know if it matters that I have upgraded to Lich King or not.

The only place I could get it to work was the west side as none of the other locations worked. When I tried other locations around the lake and inside the lake, it said I had to be closer to the magma lake. Solo as a 60 Warrior

49.1,46.1 was where I stood. case of Quest Helper not helping... pointed at the South edge of the lava pool... went to the North edge and worked fine.

Fire Plume Forged

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Take the Skeleton Key Mold and 2 Thorium Bars to the top of Fire Plume Ridge in Un'Goro Crater. Use the Skeleton Key Mold by the lava lake to forge the Unfinished Skeleton Key.

Bring the Unfinished Skeleton Key to Alchemist Arbington at Chillwind Point, Western Plaguelands.

Description

You need two bars of thorium and a powerfully hot heat source to forge the key stem. You're on your own for the thorium, but I can help with the heat.

To our west in Un'Goro Crater is Fire Plume Ridge - a simmering volcano. The lava lake up top is hot enough to fuse thorium and bone together. Your gold has bought you a mold that simply requires you to dip it in the lake up top; the lava will take care of the rest.

That's it on my end. To finish your key, you'll need to talk to Arbington again.
