Took me a while to realize, but you have to kill the smaller slimes to get a debuff that lets you walk on the lava without taking damage

these guys give you a buff that last for 43 seconds allowing you to walk on the lava and not take damage.. helpful when you have to kill the massive lava slime. kill a slime and then run up and kite him down alittle bit to a safe area that wont deal damage to you, if you are in a party get some one to kite it down so you can all loot it as the bubble/buff only goes to tho person who kills the slime! not the whole group but be warned that some the greyish areas near the lava still deal damage. you should be able to kill him in the time frame of the buff

The Lava Slimes give a debuff that lets you survive the lava. However, they give the debuff to whomever deals the killing blow, including pets. If you have a pet, you may want to dismiss it to make sure it doesn't steal your debuff when you need it most

Very annoying quest. The little slimes sometimes break up into multiples and you have to backpeddle quickly. (I guess I'm too use to swimming in the lava in MC - this is the real deal!)

Once you clear the way, go down the left side where as stated above you will take just a little damage. Wait for a small one to spawn, kill it, get the debuff and go for the big one. My JC is an underpowered alt so I had to blow all my CDs including the "Call to Arms" help from the garrison.

The rock texture is deceivingly jagged getting hung up on it and the fire coming from the lave is blinding at times.The first time I killed the big one the quest log did not show I looted the big gem. After another trip to the graveyard it did. Thank goodness.

Of the profession building garrison quests I've done (engineering, tailoring, smithing, and now JC), this one seems to be the most difficult by an extreme margin.

Pretty stupid that the thing that's supposed to protect you from the lava is a debuff and not a buff. When I see an icon in the debuff bar I assume it's bad. When I was dying on my way to the big slime, I saw the debuff there and assumed that was showing what was damaging me (since all of the smaller slimes that gave me the debuff were on or around the lava). It was only after a few failed attempts that I looked more closely at the effect of the buff, and realised that I should have been making my way down the tunnel while I had that on me.

Even then it wasn't a lot of help. I had to kill a couple of smaller slimes on the way there. Being a squishy mage with average gear I had to eat up to get my health back up after each one. Eating after the last small slime ate up a lot of the debuff's duration. When I attacked the boss, the debuff wore off before I finished. I lived long enough to loot the boss but nowhere near long enough to get out of there before dying one last time. And then because the graveyard's so far away I had to run all the way back to get my body, and then return to the quest giver which wasn't far form the graveyard I'd just left.

A frustrating and not very well thought out quest.

Three parts to the quest, they all take place in Frostfire Ridge, northwest of Bladespire Fortress at the lava pit around 18,32. Take the flightpath to Bladespire if you have it, and then take the northern ramp down and head west(ish) until you get to the lava. This is the one shaped like a sideways "Y".

Kill Lava Slime for the Rough Lava Diamond. You only need 3, but you'll want to kill a few more to get down the pit to the Massive Lava Slime. As others have mentioned, landing a killing blow (you, not your pet or minion) on one of the Lava Slime will give you Lava Slimed - a beneficial debuff that lasts for 45 seconds and lets you walk on the lava unscathed. Use this to get up to the Massive Lava Slime, and don't forget to loot after you kill, since the Massive Slime holds the Marvelous Lava Diamond.

FYI, the regular slimes and the big slime will break apart into smaller slimes as you kill them.

It took me several tries to figure this out. Mainly due to my JC being an alt who is under geared. After dying several times because I could not kill the massive before the buff wore off, I reealized there is a shelf in the very back. Dying and razzing in the back allowed me to rebuff, eat, etc. before engaging mob. I was able to stand on the shelf the entire fight, and not deal with lava damage, only mob damage. The mob gives rebuff once killed, so you can either run out or hearth/garrison.

Important info someone said that stood out for me, there is a shelf you can stand on in the back right next to the big spawn and you take no fire damage, its kind of in the middle and near the lava. Its not easy to find, but if you can fly a bit of trying will get you there. If you can't, I'm sorry you have to do it the hard way by killing little spawns and getting the debuff, but once you do, run to the back and try to find that shelf. That way even if you die, you can rez there and kill the big spawn easy enough.

This quest is brutal on melee classes, especially rogues that have their stealth constantly broken from lava before you can even get to one of the blobs. Think you found a safe place to Shadowstep to? WRONG! You are taking 5k+ ticks from lava and pulling 3 big slimes at a time! Do yourself a favor, forget about trying to play your rogue properly (ie Stealth, Shadowstep, Ambush, Cheap Shot), stand on a piece of land that has no hint of orange and use Throw or any ranged attack you have available. After you get the debuff that protects you from most of the lava damage, go after the big slime in the back, but keep in mind that stealth is not possible. Use any speed boost you may have to get in quick, kill it and loot fast before you die.

I just did this for the first time on a mage alt.

THIS QUEST ALONE was worth doing the long grind to get flying in Draenor! After a couple of attempts resulting in death, I read here about the "shelf" at the back (like a tiny beach area at lava-level). FLEW in to that, and was then shocked at how easily the giant slime went down...after calling in my garrison helpers!

Seems a lot of us have JC alts, and seems for all of us, this quest is annoying beyond belief. So glad to have your help.

As of 7.0.3 - I don't see a massive slime spawning -or any other slimes besides the little ones. I'm not sure whether he was removed or if he's on cooldown after being killed. I'll keep everyone informed as I know.

As of two days later, still no other spawns.

If you're lower than level 30, I'm going to suggest you wait until you get flying to do this one.
