sooooo watch out for the giants and the other LARGE things running around the azshara, Most are lvl 53-ish but there are some lvl 55 ELITES....i didn't know this...oh and jumping off the cliff from the cliffstompers on the way to the chopper pad....will kill you ... just an FYI

This quest was orange to me at 49, though the mobs are between 46 (in the upper area) and 51, so it's a bit misleading. (Oops I just found one 52, who is orange. But still, you should have no trouble!)

For those of you like me who used to be on Horde side, the objectives of this quest are NOT the little colored tablets for the "Stealing Knowledge" Horde quest in this area. I was very confused trying to use the drawing kit on those before I came here and realized I was supposed to be looking for GIANT obelisk things.

Just so you know the cords for signiling the plane to pick up the runes are 77,92. Don't forget to do this after getting the runes or else you have to come all the way back like i did.

This is the most dumbest quest ever. Should stand in the quest that you hafta pick up a stupid flare gun back at Ironforge BEFORE heading the helluva long way out to the island.

You have to bring the flare gun. when i came there, there was noone at the landing pad. when i fired off the flare gun, the dorf came flying in from the west.. pretty cool btw.

Lvl 49 Mage and it seemed loads easier than when I did it with my Palladin or Priest. There seemed to be less mobs and they were less agressive. Anyway gettng the drawings was easy (ty for co-ords). This time I dropped off the cliff from the last co-ordb 42 64 and ran and swam died twice (stripped) the mobs are up to 55 in the sea :(. Success.
AS Pally/priest had tried going along the cliff and dropping off at the end by the island but had to fight all the way and still died. So choose. Lvl 49 about 10500 xp for quest (pilot and IF) plus about 1k for for disovered areas, well worth the effort.

Tymor tells you to talk to Xiggs Fuselighter to get the flare gun. If you've already done the above quest then you should be able to talk to Xiggs again to get another flare gun if you lose it.

oke this is stupid thou, i mean why couldnt they just give the flaregun along with the questitem at the start?
or atleast not give it a pain in the ass to dodge thouse 55 creatures to get there and once you there ull have to swim for hour to get out.

this just only slows down the damn lvling, and they wanted to make it easier to lvl by just questing solo

If you do this, try to do Fragments of the Past at the same time. Also make sure you can hearth out of there because trying to get back to civilization from the helicopter pad island will only get you in a bad mood.

Azhara is a very annoying zone honestly since its big and hard to navigate. By the time you get to the island to hand this in you'll be regretting that you ever came. However the follow-up should compensate for the trouble with 11000 xp and 500 rep with the Alliance.

I've changed my mind - when you return to Ironforge to hand in you get 11000 xp and 500 rep with the Alliance. That makes this quest worth 14-15k xp which is actually quite decent.

The pilot's name, Xiggs Fuselighter, is a reference to Star Wars Episode IV. Luke's friend from Tatooine in the Rebel Alliance is named Biggs Darklighter.

If you're running outta bag space and throw-out the flare gun, you can still run back to Xiggs Fuselighter to get another.

Note, however, that Tymor doesn't clue you in to where to get the flare gun following the first time you accept the quest (should you have to abandon it for some reason).

Fun quest to turn in for magi. If you use slowfall+60% mount you can land on the heli-pad. And i have no idea what i would have done after i turned in if i didn't have teleport...

There is no need for this quest to be difficult at all. All 4 runes were very easy to get. I soloed this with leisure as a lvl 54 hunter.

The highest lvl mob I encountered in Azshara was a lvl 50 but this is not to say there are not others at higher levels, I did encounter lvl 55 mobs in the water on the way to the remote island. Stay on the road all the way to the first rune stop and do not drop all the way down in the ruins before you attempt reaching the last ruin nearest the coast line. After you get the last rune sample, near the coast, simply follow the coast around toward the island where the Heli-Pad is located and water walk when you can no longer make the trek on ground. Keep your eyes open for mobs in the water which are around lvl 49. You can go around them or wait a second or two and pass all of them safely without fighting.

To make it easy to complete simply bring one (1), or (2) two if it makes you feel better, . You will use this after you complete this quest to get you to your turn in point at the Heli-Pad located on the remote island.

My suggestion is to try walking near the waters edge as far as you can before you use the Elixir. This way only one Elixir will be needed. As I mentioned above bring two for safety's sake or do as I do and keep several with you at all times to cover those unexpected instances where you will need one.

Please note this Heli-Pad is very easy to see at night and early morning or late evening as it is lit up by 4 high power flood lights from all sides. You shold see this is you look closely at the screen shot I submitted provided of course that it was approved for use by WoWHead.

Enjoy this quest and by all means do the follow ups to it. It's a great way to spend a few minutes in beautiful Azshara!

Note: There are two Alliance Flight Paths near the border of Azshara and Ashenvale. One is in Ashenvale (map loc - 85,43) and the other is in Azshara (map loc - 11,77). Plan to pick both of these up if you do not already have them.

To follow up with Zyborg's post, I just did this on my hunter because I hadn't actually completed this quest before. I decided to swim around the northern part of the southern peninsula. I did this at level 56, though, so I didn't have to worry about much in the way of aggroing things. However, along the coast toward the helipad (actually in the water, mind you), there are various level 54-55 things there, as well. There are some of the three-headed things you might remember from the level 50 hunter quest, as well as occasional murlocs (but don't worry, they're pretty spread out). Overall, it was an easy quest, once you can figure out where the runes are. Azshara, unfortunately, is a pain in the neck to navigate, and you can get lost easily. The map posted above was a great help, too.

If you are a holy priest this quest can be fairly simple, I finished it without killing a single mob (at ruins) you can just Mind Soothe them and as they are spreaded in a whide range you can easily get the runes without being attacked.

I did this quest as a lvl 51 rogue and while it took time and patience first getting the rubbings then getting to the helipad I thought at least part of the quest was pointless. I was figuring that the whole purpose of having the flare gun to call for the helicopter was to take you away, but you only give him the rubbings and then get partial compensation for doing it in the first place. Thankfully, as ever, I came here before I even tried tackling the quest and managed to die only once. But that was my own fault for being impatient and not plucking off mobs one by one around Jin'yael (I think it was) until I could safely get the rubbing. I bought some Elixir of Water Walking as Zyborg suggested and while I was attacked while using two of them, I managed to get away and keep going. I got turned around going over land to the island and wound up having to travel along the southern shore of the peninsula and found that when swimming, if I hugged the rocks as I swam along, mobs didn't seem to interested. The two incidences where I was attacked, first I strayed too far out and second, was when I was swimming back to the island I'd passed.

Phew, died once while completing this quest lvl 47 warlock.
I had to be careful in fights and most dangerous part was to move to helipad.
I had no water walking potions tho.... might have been easier.

That Xiggs dude doesn't seem to hurry to leave the platform. :-)

Mages can use Slow Fall from the point of Azshara and land right on the Heli-pad.

It's alot easier than dealing with going to the shore & swimming around a bunch of mobs, because you can just ride your mount until you get to the spot where you jump off.

Completing this quest does NOT count towards the Loremaster of Kalimdor achievement. I couldn't check it as I already have the EK Loremaster done, but it probably counts on that side.

I also acquired the rubbings then went to the helipad and found it empty, no one there. I don't remember ever getting a flare gun or seeing one. Any advice?

Tymor no longer gives An Easy Pickup, to get the flare-gun, to finish this quest.

ya, there is no quest from Tymor, but if you go straight to Pilot Xiggs Fuselighter, he will give you the gun - so you can finish the quest.

Use the flare gun you get from the quest you can accept immediately after accepting this one. The quest giver says something like, “Wait, come back! I forgot something!”

I have 2 questions, 1st, the flare gun,..are we suppose to get that before we leave for the quest? And 2nd, after I got all the runes, how do I make the rubbings? I notice that if I click on the kit box, the hand will glow, I use that to touch on the runes and nothing happens..so I am stuck and I practically spent the whole morning over this, I would appreciate if someone can tell me how, thanks.

After you pick up this quest go straight to Xiggs Fuselighter in Ironforge to get the flare. Don't be like me and tons of people who accept the quest, go to Azshara, make the rubbings and go to the helipad only to check your bags and see you have no flare to signal him. Why you don't get the quest item like every other quest you do is beyond me. Also to mention the fact that the quest says nothing about having to pick up up the flare first. Stupid stupid stupid quest.

As Vexis58 said above (green post, halfway up page), you aren't looking for the stone tablets with glowing runes on them - you are looking for glowing obelisks (glowing pillars that go nowhere on a platform). This threw me for awhile too, and I've never done any of the horde quests in this zone. You will get a gear-cursor when you mouse over them.

- Before heading off to azshara to get the rubbings, be SURE to pick up the quest An Easy Pickup because you'll need to get the signal flare. Xiggs Fuselighter is in Ironforge in the Military Ward.

Arcane Runes

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Using the Drawing Kit, make rubbings of the Rune of Beth'Amara, the Rune of Jin'yael, the Rune of Markri, and the Rune of Sael'hai before heading to the small island off of the southern peninsula of Azshara and signaling Pilot Xiggs Fuselighter to pick them up.

Description

Magic was once as revered as Elune herself to some elves. Some of their most powerful mages created runes and tablets citing rules of the arcane and insights into their findings. They would leave these for all to ponder in public places.

I would very much like rubbings of these runes from the Ruins of Eldarath. I have a kit for you to make the rubbings with, but it will be up to you to find them. Be careful though, the Explorer's League isn't the only one interested in Eldarath.
