Begins with the npc Lost Packmule, northwest of Embaari Village. The guy is off to the right of a small footpath that heads north from the main road, and for some reason, doesnt exist in the wowhead database as of yet.

Once you acquire the quest search for a npc named Phlox. He will be standing near your objective. Once interacted with he will then run towards the next objective so mount up and follow. If you do this you will finally end in a cave where Phlox attacks you with three additional minions.

You can do most of this mounted. Once you find the Camel at about 40,29 ... then go to the marked area on the minimap. Talk to Phlox and after a bit he runs (follow) to an area then disappears and reappears nearby (marked on mini map). When he reappears he will be next to an object (first one is a sword at the pond). Right click the object and the step is complete. Then you speak to him again and follow him to the next and so on. Last step is the grotto (cave). He disappears near the fire at the cave entrance. Go in and you find him as a hostile mob. Kill him and turn in the quest. Two quest become available in the cave and one just outside.

You need to pick up Lost Lumberjacks Lost Lumberjacks from your garrison before you can pick up this quest. I did not get this quest until I was 92 and leveled my garrison to level 2. Not when it opens up.

FYI for those that have alts and have done this before, don't try to outwit with the game by killing Phlox prematurely. You have to trigger the event when Jarrod Hamby says, "Run <Class> it is a trap!" If you don't and try to get cute like I did you end up having to do the quest all over again.

this quest starts from Ken Loggin in the garrison , its called "lost lumberjacks". it takes you to the lost packmule
then you can start the quest Gloomshade Grove

I'm just wondering... has anyone deliberately NOT done this quest for a while, in order for the MYRIADS OF PODLINGS stay yellow? I'm thinking very hard about doing just that until I'm in my mid 90's or so, because those podlings are the most annoying things in the world to me.

It's not an issue of 'not being able to handle them', it's an issue of "I know I'm going to have to go back through there a time or two for something else, and I would like to not have thousands of ankle-biters all over me when I'm trying to do it."

I hear they're pretty good for rep grinds with your bodyguards (not a premium place, like the wasps or the grubs in Gorgrond), but not half bad, either.

I don't know. I'm just pontificating now. Feel free to add any and all comments as you see fit as a response. Thanks.

If anybody is finding that npcs and players in other zones are not loading this quest may be the problem ....with this quest still incomplete it prevented npcs and player models to load in bc shadowmoon valley

The breadcrumb quest (Lost Lumberjacks) isn't showing up for me on my level 94 priest. Garrison is level 2, too.

If you're looking to pick up this quest, possibly to complete the achievement As I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow of Moon, then it's the second quest in a chain that starts with Lost Lumberjacks from Ken Loggin just outside your garrison's south west wall

Is it actually possible to solo this quest as a mage? I'm getting a bit fed up with levelling in Draenor - pretty much every quest seems to have loads of high-powered mobs attacking me, which would be fine for characters equipped for melee, but not for mages who need ranged attacks and only have cloth. Every time I go in the cave (which is the only way of getting Phlox to attack), I get killed almost immediately.

Not to be the grammar police or anything. But this isn't like a player posting something here, in a hurry or just letting off steam. The dialog was written by programmers who have all the time they need to get the grammar correct, for the character, I agree. But, in this case, someone just missed the boat. Phlox says, "Your friends (plural) was (singular) here, now they gone."

I totally believe Phlox would leave out "are" when saying, "...now they are gone." I don't believe for a second he'd use the wrong verb tense.

Not that I expect the programmers to fix it now. Legions is over, BfA is almost into its first patch (I think about a week or two). I'm just amazed that, in all the patches, hot fixes, what have you, they didn't take the time to change "was" to "were".

Not that it does a thing for or against the quest. Not that it means a hill of beans about anything really. It's just that, there are so many grammar errors in this game that you'd think when they write it, they'd hire an editor to look at spelling, grammar. These (programmers) are suppose to be intelligent people. Well, let's be real, they are. So, why all the grammar mistakes? Something like this, or when Khadgar says, (Horde side - and doing it from memory so sorry if I don't have the exact dialog) "We have the best standing by, I hope?" Why is that a question? When you hear the voice actor saying it, there is no question in his voice. It's a statement. What could Khadgar be questioning in that sentence? His hopes? He is not asking anyone if they're standing by, he's telling us. So, why the question?

As much money Blizzard makes off of this game, you'd think they could afford to pay at least one editor. Does it take away from the game? No, but they're always going on about lore, continuity, immersion into the game. Then they break that illusion with poor writing and grammar.

Yes, for the money we all pour into this game, technical problems should be expected with a project of this size. But grammar and writing shouldn't be included in any problems. That's just lazy on the writer's / programmer's part.

Not that I expect anything to change.

(The following warning only pertains to those that are leveling through here, or otherwise questing at-level. If you're way overgeared, this won't be an issue!)

So... be careful using AOE abilities around these Sporeling critters. They are critters, yes, but they are each the same level as you and each have 1.5K HP (or about a third of your health, assuming it scales; I'm currently level 30 and they are level 29). They take a minute to kill and do the same amount of damage as a regular, non-critter mob!

Aggroing all of them will have you using all your cooldowns and hoping you don't die anyway. Plus, tab-targeting doesn't seem to work on them. and they are ridiculously difficult to click-target, seeing as they're tiny. Makes for a nasty fight.

Just a forewarning.

The RP & dialogue for this quest:

The hero enters Gloomshade Grove and comes upon a small campsite. Several cots surround a still-burning campfire, and there are supplies strewn all about. A nearby podling gives a hint as to the whereabouts of the missing campers before running off.

Your friends was here, now they gone.
The clues you seek, is by the pond.

The hero follows the rhyming podling, and soon finds that the "pond" appears to be little more than a mostly dry mud-pit, with only a few Dead Fish remaining as evidence that there was ever a significant amount of water here. The podling, Phlox, is waiting next to an Alliance Sword.

<This weapon looks like it could have belonged to someone from the missing search party.>

The hero turns back to Phlox, only to be teased with a few more lines of rhyming nonsense before the podling takes off.

You found a weapon a friend might wield.
You find more answers in the field.

Once again the hero finds Phlox waiting for them, this time next to an Alliance Shield and some gear. The way the boots are haphazardly misplaced on the ground causes a feeling of uneasiness.

The appearance of blood and damaged gear removes any remaining doubt that something has gone very wrong. An attempt to confront the overly-helpful podling only results in more rhyming and another chase.

You found the armor, no friend in reach.
You find more clues, at the beach.

At this point it is impossible to ignore the big-eyed podlings crowded around, their sharp teeth forming absurd smiles as the hero runs toward the beach. While crossing over the sand, little Sporelings dart out in front of the path towards the shoreline. Some of them are bizarrely chasing after the same sort of fungal monstrosities that were known to be their mortal enemies in Outland. Determined not to get distracted, the hero makes their way to where Phlox is waiting for them next to the bodies of a Dead Packmule and a recently deceased Garrison Horse.

<You find thousands of tiny puncture marks covering the dead mule's body.>

There is no trust or amusement left as the creepy podling sings another little rhyme before running away.

Their mounts is dead, they must be saved.
Your final clue, is in the cave.

Hopping over piles of dead fish and dodging the occasional Volatile Spore, the cave entrance is finally found. Almost immediately, the macabre body of Ryan Metcalf is spotted, with Jarrod Hamby already beginning to succumb to the same fate as an Entangling Roots Trap tightens around him. Little feet scurry in from behind as Hamby attempts to shout a warning:

Run, Champion, it's a trap!

The eyes of Phlox can be seen glowing in the dark. Too unintelligent to realize that it didn't lure the hero as prey so much as it has made itself the prey, the podling makes one last rhyme before meeting a swift end.

Fool, I tricked you from the start. The time is now, I'll swallow your heart!
