Trying to start the quest, but Cassandra (Katie?) won't respond to me. The Continue button remains grayed out, even when I try resetting my UI. :-(

The quest should be auto-accept, I can't find it in my quest log. She doesn't have a grey ? nor any gossip text to start a battle. My highest pet is level 9, perhaps my pets need to be higher level?

Cassandra Kaboom is the last Pet tamer you need to defeat before returning to Varzok in Orgrimmar. It's advised to have your three pets to level 12-14 before you fight her as all her pets are level 13.

Cassandra uses an all Mechanical Pet setup including pets Gizmo, Cluckatron, and Whirl. For your setup you do not want to use Beast pets as all of these Mechanical foes deal high damage against them. The best pets to use against her setup are all Elementals as her pets deal the least amount of damage to them and Elementals pack a punch against Mechanicals.

For the fight itself; Cassandra will usually start with Gizmo or Cluckatron, saving Whirl as a last resort for a good reason.
As with all Mechanicals; once they are defeated, they are then revived at low health, making you work a bit extra to take them out. Gizmo will often use Demolish which has a very high chance to miss it's target while Cluckatron will often use Toxic Smoke to put a DoT on your pet that can deal some mean damage with the wrong set up. Once you've defeated these two Cassandra is done messing around and she'll pull out her final ultimate weapon; Whirl. Whirl is a mechanical squirrel type and is not a pet to be disregarded.
A core reason Cassandra saves Whirl for last is due to the fact of his first ability; Batter. Since you've defeated her first two pets, you gain the right to attack first most of the time. But Batter allows Whirl to attack 1-2 times with an additional hit if your pet is the first to attack in this round. Avoid using weather abilities that increase healing done as well as increase the amount of HP all pets have on the battlefield while the effect is active, because Whirl will go nuts over it's HP gain ability; Repair. Which if Sunshine weather effect is present; will heal his HP full up over 1k HP. Even without a heal increase effect; Repair is still a crippling move that could devastate your battle-worn pets over and over if used repeatedly.
Whirls third ability is equally traumatizing to your pets as it increases the damage of Whirl's next attack by 150%. So be wary when you see his buff pop up, and if your pet has a shield ability; it'd be wise to use it for a devastating Batter.

Didn't have too much trouble of beating her with lvl 11, 9 , 9.

My tactic was to use my weakest pet (who was the lvl 11 dragonkin) to destroy whichever pet popes up first, i used the fact that all of her pets were much faster then mine and used tail sweep every time that i could. Which combined with fly allowed me to take out the starter (including the respawn) before dying.

The second pet would always kill my dragonkin in one of the first few moves so i would quickly switch to my Lil' K. T. (it probably would've been useful to hit lvl 10 on him and get howling blast for extra elemental damage, but i didn't want to lose either shadow slash or siphon life) I would open up the fight with frost nova, continue with siphon and just shadow slash until nova would come of cool down, at which point, based on the 2nd enemy's health i would either shadow slash or siphon health. The key thing that also helped me out was that even after Lil' K.T. dies he can still attack 2 times (if the enemy is faster then you), which allowed me to finish off 2nd opponent and lay a hit on the Whirls.

Now Whirls by far is the toughest of the bunch, in terms of amount of dmg he can produce, and how quickly he can regain health. Because of that my only elemental (lvl 9 Ragnaros) was being saved up just for him. While magma trap is tempting, i wouldn't use it, unless you're desperate. It has no chance of procing when Whirls is repairing and that is the most critical point. Sadly, because i did use it, whirls was able to repair, but by ignoring magma and focusing on sulfuras smash (basic attack) and flamethrower i was able to push him into his re-incarnation, and was able to kill him when he used the overpower.

Overall this was by far the most challenging of all the trainer fights, especially because the level jumps from 9 to 13 (while i was expecting 11), but it's still doable even with much lower lvl pets.

Her pets are level 11 and all mechanical. They pack a mean punch! I beat her with a Pterodaxx Hatchling, Pandaren Monk, and Core Hound Pup. My pets were lvl 11 as well.

I used the Pterodaxx Hatchling first since that mechanical rabbit hits like a truck and the ability to dodge an attack plus a heal helped get rid of the first pet. This is my only pet who came close to dying during the match.

Then I used the Core Hound pup since he's elemental and mechanical pets are weak against this type. His double damage for two rounds moves helps also.

I swapped in my Pandaran Monk since he hits like a truck and also has a damage increasing move but I could have finished her last two pets with just the Core Hound pup.

If you have a couple elemental pets you can probably beat her with lvl 9 or 10 pets. If you have none my advice is to use pets that are a lvl or two higher than hers.

Here is my Quicklist Guide to the Horde Side of the Pet Trainer Intro Quests. This is a quick reference to see what type of pets you will need to defeat the trainers easily. On Trainers who have the same type of pet for all 3 pets in their party, I would recommend you bring at least two pets that are the opposite type (i.e. bring three appropriate leveled Mechanical types to fight three trainer Beasts). Don't rely on fighting all three of their pets with just one of yours, despite the fact that they will have stronger attacks and defeat them quicker.

1st Tier Horde Trainer Questline (Starts in Kalimdor)

To defeat these trainers with maximum efficiency, you will need pets of the following type:
Mechanical, Beast, Flying, Magic, Aquatic, Elemental

So my set up for this battle was Kirin Tor Familiar (level 9) Curious Oracle Hatching(level 10) and Celestrial Dragon (level 9).
First
I started off with my Hatchling because he has the move Super Sticky Goo which has "strong" against mechanical. Just spamming this one move got me to almost her last pet but she auto swapped to my Celestrial Dragon.
Then
I beat her second pet with my Celestrial Dragon but my dragon had only 15% hp left. Her last pet killed my Dragon and Hatchling and i was forced to use my weakest pet against her.
*Note* Kirin Tor Familiar's moves and weak against a machine
During the remainder of the fight I was lucky enough that she kept using the weakest move against my Familiar and won the battle.

This is highly doable with lower level pets, but if you want to make it easier for you i suggest leveling to at least level 11-12. (All her pets were 11)

Her pets are level 11, not 13 as stated in one post.

I was able to beat all 3 with a level 14 Singing Sunflower. Didn't have to bring in my 11 Voodoo Figurine or 11 Proto-Drake Whelp, both of which has some elemental attacks.

I didn't even have to heal on the flower either.

Ok I too was unable to fight her after abandoning the account wide quest. What fixed it for me was to go to talk to Merda Stronghoof and she gave me the quest to fight again. Hope this helps someone!

I won against Merda, but she gives no quest for this one. Anyone lese having this problem? I seem to keep htting these kinds of bad broken links in the quest chain.

This is beyond frustrating. I've beaten Merda Stronghoof but she didn't give me a follow up. I have checked every single character, I have reloaded the UI, re-logged, deleted my WTF and Cache folder.

I can't find help or a fix to this anywhere and I've been searching... My only solution now is to hopefully get it fixed by Blizzard when they eventually answer my ticket.

If you haven't upgraded to MOP, that's why you can't pick up the followup quest. Merda and wossname, Varzok/Audrey Burnhep will both refuse to give followup quests to non-MOP accounts. It's a bug, but it's still broken for right now.

Either upgrade or put in a ticket, they can fix it from inside if you can't upgrade right now. The best option is obviously upgrading, though, so you don't have to bother with a ticket when you hit a broken link.
