IMPORTANT: these are NOT in the room where you find han in amber (the one with chen at the entrance and with amber jets that bump you everywhere).

These are in small rooms in the hill OVER that room.

Holy crap. Thank you all so much for these comments. I hate when the quest tracker is so unbearably freaking vague like that.
And FYI, it sparkles like something you click on but there's nothing to click on. Apparently you have to kill the mob that is in there to get it do it's thing. Just so you know if you're thinking you could just sneak in there, grab it and get out.

Spent 15 mins looking around reading posts, reloading WoW, deleting and reacquiring quest.

Thought it might be a phasing issue and it was. You cannot complete this is you are sitting on the quest The Taking of Dusklight Bridge. Either abandon or complete the quest and the mobs will appear.

I've gotten the Mark of the Empress from the one building and I'm in the correct building where the Heartroot should be, but it's not there, just two Chitinel fighting. I don't have the quest "The Taking of Dusklight Bridge", I've completed it. Anyone know what I can do to get this to work? >.<

I spent probably 30 minutes coming in and out of the 2 buildings needed for this quest, but nothing (no items, no mobs, nothing). I had another quest in the same area that was phased, so decided to check and see what quests I had that might be the issue. My map was showing 3 quests for this area, but my log only had 2 for Dread Wastes... the other one, " The Taking of Dusklight Bridge" (http://thottbot.com/quest=30975) is actually from Townlong Steppes... if you think you don't have the quest, look again...

The Heartroot of Kypari Kor looks like an actual tree root inside one of the buildings with a set of stairs going down at the entrance. For me it didn't sparkle when I saw it, so do not necessarily rely on sparkles as a sign that you have found the quest object. Standing near it should complete that part of the quest objective, with a red visual effect displaying.

I wonder if I am seeing reference where there isnt one or if its too out of mainstream to be commented. But in Robert Jordan`s(dead for several years now) book series Wheel of Time one society called Aiel tend to say "water and shade" quite a bit. Along lines "may you always find water and shade" as a farewell.

As said society lives in a harsh desert and is mostly if not completely warrior society where warfare plays large part, it kinda resembles klaxxi though Aiel are human. Not to forget they did attack the "known world" for their own reasons rest of the world didnt know, kinda like Klaxxi attack for their own reasons every 100 years, though Aiel only did it once prior to the start of series. Also their desert is barred by large mountains, kinda like wall between them and "known world", just like klaxxi are walled from the vale.

Ps. Like I said, I may see reference where there isnt one but with the similarities between Aiel and Klaxxi, I would personally be surprised if it wasnt intentional reference.

Just as a quick comment, if anyone got confused like I did, this quest does not take place in the chamber where you find Chen Stormstout. The entrances are on the other side of Kor'vess.

I was being thrown all over the place even when nowhere near the beams. TOP TIP - I just heroic leaped right over the middle where the beams meet and voila! worked a treat

FYI, may not be able to stealth past the dudes guarding the entrance, at least not as a druid. They always attacked me as I attempted to sneak by.

EDIT: If you are 120 and you're struggling with this quest, you need to complete the quest chain given by Taoshi. Doing so will phase the area back to level 90

I was trying to do this in 8.3, all the mobs here are scaled to 120
I have found the rooms I need, walked in and got the red blades light up, but the quest wasn't marked as complete.

I had a feeling the Kor'vess scaling/phasing is really messing around with the quests here so I went at did that, and after finishing Taoshis questline that starts at Serpents Bite, I was able to complete this quest

I'm a L95 warrior having played for about 4 years with different characters and in all scenarios. I must say that of all the quests I have worked, this is the stupidest and most poorly designed. Whoever worked this up should be made to play it with a blindfold on for 8 hours straight. I love WoW and respect what the programmers do, but this quest is garbage. And it's only worth 2500 points!

If You were doing the quest after the bfa invasions, you will have to finish the invasion-related quests before continuing the quests. The map is phased while you don't do the quests.

(Broken since 8.3; still broken as of 10.0.0)

You're likely to get stuck on two quests because of phasing (Bound With Wood & Wood and Shade).

Head to Vale of Eternal Blossoms and make sure you're on the BFA timeline.
Find Taoshi at 13.6 75.4 and take the quest Once More Into Kor'vess.
Keep taking Taoshi's quests for the storyline The Mantid Threat, up until you've completed Heart of the Swarm, escaping the Dread Wastes.

Now, once you go back to Dread Wastes for those two quests, phasing shouldn't be an issue :)

If you are stuck on Bound With Wood, Wood and Shade, and Kor’thik Aggression quests in Dread Wastes and are a fully leveled toon, you must go to Zidormi in Vale of Eternal Blossom (/way 81.13, 29.43) and change your timeline to present time and then complete Taoshi’s questline (/way 13.6, 75.4) as follows:

1. Reflections in Amber
2. Once More into Kor’vess
3. Crippling the Hive
4. Rotten at the Roots (/way 47.0, 16.0)
5. Amber Secrets
6. Old Faces, New Problems
7. A Unified Swarm
8. Heart of the Swarm
9. The Mantid Threat (/way 40.14, 75.26)

If you do not do this, you will not be able to move forward with the Dread Wastes questline. On another note, when I went to present time, it turned out that I had already completed the 1st (3) quests in Taoshi’s questline. I ended up having to abandon the dread waste quests to get Taoshi to appear alongside me at Kor’Vess offering me the Rotten at the Roots quest.

I hope this helps someone. I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to complete Dread Wastes as a level 70 in Dragon Flight.

Description

"Rending daggers of the great ones shall be bound with WOOD and SHADE." Hmm.

I've learned a lot about the Kor'thik mantid in my time here. I know that they maintain shrines within their settlement, Kor'vess.

One is a heartroot of the very tree that they inhabit. The other is a dark pillar, connecting them with their queen.

These shrines are the wood and shade. If my predictions are right... the daggers should react in their presence.
