I completed it while in a group, but my husband had problems. He tried a few different things (logging out and back in, doing damage, not doing damage). It worked when he stood away from the portal (behind the npcs), not in a group, and he threw a single spell. Good luck!

Spent 3 attempts just killing fire elementals and the fire druid, kept resetting after the druid ran away. I afked to look here for advice, and when I alt-tabbed back, the quest was completed.

Tried this like 5 times over, it kept resetting after the chick came out and we killed her. Then i dropped the group i was in and it worked first try. If you're having troubles, drop group.

Had the same thing happen with me, was stuck in the loop.
Came here to check to see what I needed to do and when I tabbed back it was completed.

I was having troubles too with the quest repeating, but I fixed it by simply dropping the quest and getting it again.

Confirming, still a bit of trouble to get it completed in this patch.

As a paladin I went all in when the fire druid appeared, summoned my guardian, and it just reset and went back to the fire elementals spawning. When she spawned the second time I just auto hit her with no pet and I got the quest complete.
If it had something to do with my pet/guardian I do not know, but if you have one, dismiss it to be on the safe side.
(I was not in a group)

At some point during one of the 5.0.5 maintenance patches recently, as of the date of this note, this quest has become bugged. Go ahead and kill the flame minions that come out of the portal until your bar turns red all the way to the right and Leyara, a Flame Druid, comes out and does her shtick. However, just hit her once, no more, and no dots, and then let Arch Druid and company take her down as you watch a few paces away. If you go all out or continue to hit over and over, it will bug and the process starts over. You can't kill Leyara anyway, just part of the show of opening the gate.

Took like 5 tries for me to complete this quest. I dunno the exact problem, but what finally worked for me was this: 1) dismiss pet completely (I'm a hunter), 2) when Leyara spawns, let the friendly NPCs start the fight and then just hit her once.

I found I didn't have to do anything for this quest. My bar just filled up when other npc's were fighting the Charred Invaders. All I had to do was watch and wait until the bar had completely filled up and the portal was opened.

This quest kept looping on my 90 hunter. Thank you for your comments - they helped. I dismissed my pet and tried auto-attacking her once; still bugged. One final attempt I killed elementals like normal, but did not hit her at all and it (finally) worked. Good luck!

I tried everything from not attacking to dismissing my pet... I used distracting shot and then finished her off and got credit.... try holding agro.

as a hunter at lvl 100, hunters dismiss pet, put weapon (bow/guns) away, 'hand' battle leyara, keep hold of aggro and it should work for u ... doing it this way after many failed attempts and report to blizzard about the bug, it finally worked for me

Was finally able to do this on my druid after over an hour of trying. I kept cycloning Leyara until the fight reset. Then when she came back after the reset the NPCs hit her for a second or two and I was given completion of this quest.

Not sure if this only works with just cyclone or other CC too. She was also at about 220k HP when I tried to cyclone her.

If you have tried all the other methods mentioned on this page I recommend just afking there for about 30 min and doing nothing at all. Just go alt-tab out and do something else. You will get it after a while, a LOOOONG while.

What worked for me was taunting Leyara down the slope. I accidentally killed her, but the quest completed when I did.

Alternatively, you might be able to keep kiting her down the slope and she should eventually fly away and give quest credit. This is what I was trying for (a guildmate who had the same problem told me this worked).

Amusedly after like 10 times, I was like screw it.. backed down the hill a bit, let the NPCs do it ALL their own, and low and behold it completed on it's own.

I tried all of the suggestions here with my lvl 100 warlock. Nothing worked for me (hit only once, don't be the first one to hit, no pet, don't be in a group, be afk and make coffee,...)
I read then somewhere that you have to run down the hill. So this worked for me on the second attempt:
You need to get her attention. I attacked her (more than once) and used spells, that don't bring her health down immediately, but makes her focus on you. If you make too much damage, just put off some of your items. When she's focusing, run down the hill and make her follow you. At some point the other NPCs will have brought down her health so far, that she will fly away again and you can return the quest.

I think this is an issue regarding high level characters...

Leaving my toon in the area and going afk for about 10-15 minutes worked for me. I tabbed out and checked out some music videos on Youtube, tabbed back in and was able to turn the quest in.

As a lvl 100 hunter, it was really easy to almost kill her but it doesn't help the quest... After about 10 minutes of killing the elementals and her I decided to just sit back and watch.

I stood back behind Malfurion and Hamuul and let all the NPCs fight it out. Then Leyara appears and I just walked up with the druids as they talk to her. I didn't attack ANYTHING. They will all start fighting and again I just sat back and let them fight without any interference from me. After a short fight, they beat her and I was then able to complete the quest.

So long story short, don't attack anything but stay close.

Tried all other suggestions (do damage but dont be the last one to hit, bring her down the hill) and the quest still wouldn't complete. Took a poop and when I came back it was done.

Me and another hunter was stuck on this quest, I had been here over an hour trying every comment but nothing was working. Finally on one attempt the other hunter hit Leyarra and then accidentally disengaged off the cliff and she got credit for the quest. So I tried that except I disengage off the cliff on purpose and it worked. Me and the other hunter were completely without gear when we tried this.

Confirmed to work in 6.1 as a lvl 100 hunter. Dismiss pet. Wait for NPCs to attack her for a bit, then auto attack ONCE. Turn your back to her/run out of attacking range. Worked for me first go.

FINALLY got this after 3 days of trying. as a 100 hunter I didn't hit any elementals, dismissed ALL pets ( including battle pets),was naked (minus my bow), and dragged her past the big bush ( behind stormrage. on the left side if looking at his face) to the second smaller bush ( on his right side when viewing his face) and just distracting shotted her the whole way.

Level 100 ret pally , PTR servers WOD , tried everything on here , ended up get butt naked , and attacking her with my fists, I had nothing equipped , not even rings or trinkets . I even used seal of insight . Hit her more than once doing about 10k damage each hit

I tried being naked and auto-attacking her for 1 measly 7k hit but that didn't work, nor did running away from the hill work either. Once it phased again I let the npcs kill all of the elementals and Leyara with no interference from my naked self and I got credit.

If Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem says, "A flame druid... she is dangerous" and you don't see a way to turn in the quest, you're going for another round.

I was bugged for about 45 minutes trying everything in the comments. Finally I tried taunting her in bear form and walked backwards through the portal and accidentally fell off of the cliff. While I was flying back up, the NPC's finished her off and the quest completed... Don't know if this will help? Good luck!

As a level 100 Unholy DK, I was finally able to complete this (after what felt like a million attempts) by not doing anything until Leyara appeared and then hit her with Strangulate (silencing spell) and did nothing else. I had tried auto-attacking, only hitting her once, and pretty much every other suggestion on this page and the Battle.net forums. It seems like you might have to hit her with a non-damage spell. There was a level 85 tauren there while I was trying to complete it, and when I asked if he had issues with it, he said he was able to complete it first try.

If your high level and are having trouble completing this quest, then all you need to do is....nothing! That's right! Just let the druids attack Leyara and they should kill her no problem. For some reason the quest bugs out if you attack and kill her and forces you to repeat it over and over.

Ok, So! I'm on my paladin trying to unlock the Molten Front for the profession mats (completionist nerd here) and I'm all the way through the questline up to this point. I get to the Nordune Ridge to do the quest and there is a hunter and a druid there talking about it bugging out. The hunter left after a few minutes, the druid several minutes later, but over the course of it, we tried virtually everything mentioned here:

kiting Leyara,
naked punching her,
leaving her alone,
only DPSing her,
only DPSing the elementals,
using pets,
dismissing pets,
only hitting her with non-damaging spells (silences, stuns, etc),
dropping and re-accepting the quest,
zoning out of Hyjal and coming back,
AFKing in the middle of the combat area,
AFKing behind all the NPCs

...nothing was working for me. Just when I was about to put a ticket in, she spawned again and I said, "Screw it," and hit her with a Repentance and nothing more. I still had Seal of Insight on from previous attempts to avoid damaging her. It worked.

Now, it wasn't the first time I used that ability and only that ability, but it worked. I'm inclined to say that the method/tactic you use isn't important, especially since such a variety and number of different methods worked for so many. I'm no programmer or game designer, but I'm inclined to say there's gotta be something in the code or the programming or something that misaligns or doesn't register in some way that causes people to not get credit for this more often than they succeed and are supposed to. But every once in awhile, the stars align and you get the RP to run correctly and you'll get credit. Not sure what, not sure why, but that's my guess. ...Of course, I could also be talking out of my ass and not even know it.

But just in case, I'll mention the one thing that no one else has mentioned that might be a factor: time. I first approached the quest area at 5:33pm central time, but didn't get the completion until the RP finished and Leyara flew away at 6:22pm. This was on a Sunday, so there had been no server restarts, no maintenance. Don't know if 22 minutes past the hour is anything special or even it's 6:22 specifically, but you might give it a try. *shrug* I have to do this all again on my tailor (ugh), so I'll let you guys know what I find when I repeat this process later on - hopefully soon.

Edit: So, I redid this quest today on another alt, picking it up and arriving at the cliff at 10:22pm central time. I gave it a solid attempt at killing both Leyara and the elementals that came before her, and nothing. So I immediately went behind all the NPCs and waited. At 10:47, the current round of RP ended, and I got credit for the quest.

I did all I could then I finally hit her with one spell, naked, and jumped into the water where I stayed while the NPCs beat her down. That worked and I was shocked it did! Can try this too if you have problems.

Fight the waves of Charred Invaders on Nordune Ridge until the portal is opened.

Description

We appear to have everything under control. Our invasion portal to the Firelands will be opened momentarily, and the elementals have not put up much fight.

Assist our druids by dispatching the last few of these elementals. Then, once the gate has been opened, we can make our move.
