You can be mounted on this quest...Just run to each bit of soil and the seedling protector will do it's thing.

Quest appears to be broken. If your Seedling Protector disappears before you collect the Rich Soil, there's no way to collect them and no way to resummon the Seedling Protector, which ultimately cuts the series short at this point.

You can resummon the Seedling Protector (and his later iterations) if you die, abandon the quest, or hearthstone out of the area; just go back to the hilly island with the "petrified" watchers where you initially picked up the quest, and the little guy reappears and is ready to go again.

When you take this seedling to a mound of rich soil, it will run around in circles kicking up dust. Very cute.

I've seen other players w/ the little seedling following them like a shadow so running up to them & clicking on the seedling w/ the yellow "?" overhead doesn't do anything. For me, I had to finish the !Nature and Nurture quest & magically the seedling appears to accept the !Seeking Soil quest. You have to be at the top of the "hill" or boulder (as i prefer to call it) in the middle of the 3 humanoid-like trees. I hope this comment helps you.

To expand on post by Niamh (as the quests he lists are Alliance) ...if you are Horde here are your quests to get your blues.

Do steps 1 - 13 as listed (Whisperwind Grove is neutral). Then...
14. Report to Darla Drilldozer at 56.33, 8.15 in Irontree Clearing.
15. Pick up It's Time to Oil Up & A Flare Fight.
16. Head back to Darla Drilldozer.
17. Turn in both & select reward from It's Time to Oil Up: Overworked Shoulders, Shredder Operator's Helmet, Efficiency Spell Mace, or Oil Bailer's Shield.
18. Pick up Take it to the Tree & Wisp-napping.
19. When complete, head back & turn in both. Then pick up Slap and Cap & Is Your Oil Running?.
20. Turn both in & pick reward from Slap and Cap: Oilfoot Slippers, Oil Gush Leggings, Workforce Chestguard, or Cloak of Sleep Deprivation.
21. Pick up Pikwik in Peril.
22. Head to 54.68, 18.42 in Irontree Clearing and talk to Foreman Pikwik.
23. Pick up Turn It Off! Turn It Off! & A Bomb Deal.
24. When you "shut off" the Master Control Pump at the end of the cave for Turn It Off! Turn It Off!, it will give you Fire in the Hole!.
25. Head out of cave and back to Foreman Pikwik to turn in A Bomb Deal.
26. Head to approx 55.59, 22.24 and kill Grolvitar the Everburning.
27. Head back to Darla Drilldozer and pick your reward: Gauntlets of Raw Strength, Everburning Cloak, or Drilldozer Band!

If you don't get any quest progress. Make sure you have finished Nature and Nurture.
I abandoned this quest and went to finish that one, and upon completion this quest was offered to me and it worked without issues.

If you're having trouble seeing the piles of soil amidst all the grass you can turn the slider for Ground Clutter all the way to the left to remove all grass sprites. This makes the soil stand out much, much more.

Click Graphics near the bottom in the options window
Scroll down to Ground Clutter in the Graphics Quality section
