Note for anyone going for current Loremaster: this quest and it's chain are the key in getting North Point Tower and Tabetha's farm as quest hubs in Dustwallow. Get this chain going and do all the quests you get in combation with this chain's quests and you'll only have to visit every place once.

I made the mistake of going to the aforementioned places and doing the unrelated quests there first, having to revisit the quests areas again for this chain.

Before handing in this quest. Drop it and go talk to Smiling Jim near the town inn for a quick breadcrumb ONLY available if you do not have Inspecting the Ruins in your log.

No one seems to have noticed this: The Shady Rest Hotel was the main setting for the old TV series "Petticoat Junction". It was run by Kate Bradley and her daughters Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Betty Jo, with the unhelpful help of Uncle Joe (who moves kinda slow, according to the show's theme song).

So it's another pop culture reference by the programmers. <G>

Under your Tracking tab on your mini-map you should turn press "Hidden Quests" so you can easily see the 3 quests in the inn.
This will allow you to start a quest chain that leads eventually leads you to Tabetha's Assistance

Inspecting the Ruins

Speak to Inspector Tarem at the Shady Rest Inn.

Description

Poor James never recovered from the destruction of the Shady Rest and the murder of his family. The boys and I are doing what we can to find the monsters who did this.

I've sent our best investigator, Inspector Tarem, out to the ruins, but this is too big a job for any one man. If you'd lend Tarem a hand, we'd appreciate it. Light knows, we'd all like to be out there helping.

The main road will lead you to the inn, but take care. Your journey will take you beyond the protection of my soldiers.
