This quest appears to be bugged. There are a few friendly and unfriendly dwarves fighting on the bridge but I can't interact with them. Also, there is no Calamoth in sight, though he will probably show up after the skirmish is over.

I have tried going inside the bridge as well and that doesn't change anything. Occasionally some normal enemies will spawn but nothing comes after.

Edit: I tried this quest again today and it appeared to work correctly. Calamoth gave his speech and became targetable and I swiftly killed him and was on my way.

Calamoth is not on the bridge he is inside it, you need to go past the battle and down one of the stairs, unfortunately he is still bugged and hasnt rezzed, been waiting 15min

Calamoth Ashbeard spawned for me after blue storm on the middle of the bridge.

I was having the same problem completing the quest. I tried something and it worked. Not sure if it's the solution or if I just got lucky but here's what I did: I dismounted. I abandoned the quest, dismounted and got the quest again. Then I stayed dismounted and walked to the bridge and it worked like it was supposed to. Not sure if this will work for everybody but it's worth a try, hope it helps.

Edit: I just read where someone went back after the server restart and it worked, so maybe that's what happened with me. I guess the dismounting thing is still worth a try though if you don't wanna wait till after the restart.

Initially rode on to the bridge and no one was there, dropped the quest, rode back and took the quest again, as I rode towards the bridge the battle was about to take place, quest-mob and NPCs in place.

Not sure what made it work...

I tried this quest too, yesterday did everything ohter people said to do, still didnt work, every time I go there they are always fighting all the time, so I went and did the quest just now, and still the same, still waiting and npcs on bridge fighting, whats taken so long to fix this quest.....

confirmed the "fix" if you drop quest, dismount, accept quest and walk to bridge, it will function normally. Did this at 12:07AM 12/3/2010 on Ner'zhul US.

On Norgannon, I was unable to do the quest on my L27 rogue. I tried dismounting/abandoning/restarting; no effect. I tried both stealthing and de-stealthing; no effect. Opened a ticket at 5:44 a.m. EST.

Relogged 2xs stayed 20 mins each time and nothing , it is stilled bugged Blizzed has not fixed it yet GRRRR .... Had to tell at least 4 diff people that who kept running by looking for him and doing the same thing .

It is working. I went through to Arati Highlands, and when nothing happened I went back over the bridge to Wetlands. Then the dwarfes showed up, and I followed them to the middle of the bridge again, and the scene started.

Unfortunately, i have run into this problem as well. my boyfriend is currently trying to complete this quest, and having no other options but to wait until the server resets or having him abandon and retake this quest; is there any other way for this quest to work?

Here's what we're seeing: The battle scene is taking place, but the speech refuses to activate. There are also small blue checkered particles emitting from the scene and getting stuck on the floor of the bridge, surrounding the battle.

I'm fairly sure it's just a broken texture on the particle emitter on my MacBook, but it helps to give an accurate depiction. especially when this much is going wrong with this quest. I'm going to submit a ticket soon and hope that it gets fixed asap. : /

This quest is still bugged on Duskwood. I tried all the above, to no avail. I'm sure Blizzard is on top of this, so I patiently await, like many others, the patch to remedy this issue.

Right after the Tuesday server resets today, I was able to abandon the quest, take it up again and complete it. If it is going to work, I think Thargas shows up as soon as you get on the bridge, there is no battle and then you get joined by other NPCs, lots of talk and then the battle.

Arrived at Dun Modr this morning shortly after rolling resets.
Dropped quest and reacquired...went to Thandol Span..it was clear as I approached.
Going on to the Span I triggered the scene, Calamoth Ashbeard appeared and was quickly dispatched.

I felt a great disturbance in the quest page, as if millions of players posted in terror and were suddenly downranked. I fear something buggy has happened.

This quest is currently bugged and does not reset correctly after someone completes it. It's a known issue Blizz are working on but it won't be fixed until a patch is applied most likely.

Please don't spam the page with info on if it does or doesn't work on your realm. If it doesn't, well we already know it's bugged. If it does, that doesn't mean it's fixed, it likely just means it wasn't broken yet on your realm.

The best time to do this quest if you are really fussed is after your server's weekly maintainance (or any realm restart for that matter). Aside from that, if you encounter this quest to be bugged, don't hold your breath, your time is better spent levelling elsewhere.

I have the same problem and I've got the quest yesterday. But I saw 2 players there being busy. Not alliance. Names are Wicory and Mercery. They were doing spells. I am a rogue and I went stealth so they didn't saw me, I think. If these 2 are the problem why they didn't fixed it yet? And why can not have direct contact with blizz's customer service and we must only see the answers of some questions or problems?

If you don't get a follow-up after completing this, it's probably because you already have Hero's Call: Arathi Highlands! in your quest log. You can't do both the Hero's Call and the follow-up.

To skip this bugged quest and continue questing: Travel north from the Wetlands and cross the Than'dol Span to reach Arathi. Follow the road to Refuge Pointe and present yourself to the captain. Refuge Point is the nearest quest hub.

I went up to Thandol Span and nothing. I turned around to go back to Dun Modr and saw Thargas Anvilmar running up towards Thandol Span from the camp. I followed him and the battle began.

Really disappointing. I know it's just one of many quests, but it's the last quest in the zone and it awards a blue. You'd think out of everything, this would be the one that worked.

Quest has been fixed as of last server restart. Killed the NPC and the others scrammed. I abandoned the quest and did it again just for verification.

Not sure if quest is still bugged - collected quest, went to bridge, wandered around for 10/15 mins killing Converts but no sign of named Mob (Calamoth) - was on the verge of giving up and flying back towards Wetlands when the allied NPC's and Questgiver came waltzing up the path, the named MOB and 4 others then appear and after a bit of dialogue I was able to engage and despatch, and collect blue reward. Don't know what the trigger was but obvious that you need the NPC's to attend to get the quest to progress, hope this helps...

I had problems with this quest too. It seems the ONLY way to complete it is to do it right after the server restarts. Set your alarm, wake up early on Tuesday and it should work. It did from me and from scouring the forums myself, it seems this works for others as well.

I logged on and already had the quest. I don't know if it'll work if you need to see the NPC first to get the quest right after server restart. Hope this helps everyone!

To get the fight started correctly you need to ride all the way out on the bridge, until you pass the overhead section. Then turn around and go back, Calamoth Ashbeard should be going through his speech and you should be able to target him. Hope this helps.

This is a very neat ending to the zone. Many characters from the zone and from past battles on Thandol Span make an appearance during the encounter. Thargas Anvilmar explicitly calls out Balgaras, a mage who particpated in the plat to blow up one of the bridges.

Turning in and reward is available right after killing target (just like in dungeons) from quest tracker.

I picked the quest, went to the spot, waited for him to respawn, killed and turned in.
lvl 26 frost mage.

Anyone saying that it is bugged, or not fixed apparently don't know how to do it.

SO the bug now seems to have changed. He now appears fine, but whenever you kill him, the quest doesn't complete. I killed him 3 times and then finally tried a relog. Logged in and the quest was completed without having to kill him yet again (thankfully).

Short version: If quest isn't completing - relog.

As of today, 08/17/2013, this is no longer bugged. Just run over bridge to Highlands, then back just after middle over pass and Calamoth Ashbeard will appear. Just kill him. Nice gear award afterward.

I've defended the Thandol Span from being destroyed before, against the Dark Iron themselves. And so did my father, and his father before him...

The only Dark Iron that managed to give me the slip ran straight for the bridge. Something's amiss, and I'm betting when we get there we'll be waltzing right into an ugly trap.
