you'll get suggestion after you bring wrong fuel to Hexasrub, so the right formula is 2 remora oil mix 3 hammerhead oil, no matter the order

The quest is not complete when you mix it, you need to go talk to the gnome first, I saw many people trying it again and again seing the quest is not complete.

I went through trial-and-error, since I hadn't checked here for this.

Terrapin is 1, Remora is 2, Hammerhead is 3.

1, 2, 3, 1, 2 = Billowing sample. Claimed to be too smoky, and to use less terrapin.
1, 2, 3, 2, 3 = Smoky sample. Said still a tad too smoky, and to skip out on terrapin.
2, 3, 2, 3, 2 = Atomic. Said that he thought I wanted to blow the ship up! o_O Lower the amount of Remora oil.
2, 3, 2, 3, 3 = Promising. This was fine, and like the others said, worked for the quest.

I wonder what other kinds there were.

Three parts Hammerhead Oil to two parts Remora Oil gives you the promising oil, which completes the quest. Do the others just for fun, first. :)

Go to Labo table and take Hammerhead x1 DONT MIX
then take Remura x2 DONT MIX
then take Hammerhead x2 MIX NOW
you drop the good potion go to questgiver and complete quest

After you create the sample, you have to go talk to the questgiver. The yellow question mark will not appear automatically.

You just need 2 Remora and 3 Hammerhead. Doesn't matter which order you get them in.

2, 3, 2, 3, 3 = Promising.

I've made a little chart to show the outcome of any formula combination. Each oil can be added in any order, it does not affect the outcome.

Formula:
T = terrapin
R = remora
H = hammerhead
X = any

Combine to get the following:
Billowing: TTXXX (Any combination with at least 2 terrapin)
Smoky: TRRHH (only one combination)
Atomic: RRRXX (Any combination with at least 3 remora)
Anemic: THHHR, HHHHX (Any combination with at least 4 hammerhead, or 3 if and only if combined with one terrapin and one remora)
Promising:HHHRR (exactly 3 hammerhead and 2 remora, this is the one required for quest credit)

Hexascrub responses:
Anemic: "You're right, far too weak. Needs more remora. Try it again!"
Atomic: "Yes, this will definitely burn too hot. Do you want to blow up the ship? Cut back on the remora oil next time."
Billowing: "Bah! <cough> Far too smoky! <cough> Looks like you put in too much terrapin oil! Try again!"
Smoky: "We're getting close... but it's still a little too smoky. Don't put in any terrapin oil next time. <cough> Too much smoke. Give it another shot!"
Promising: "This is it! The perfect bio-fuel! Good work, <name>!" (quest credit)

The following worked for me:
Hammerhead, Hammerhead, Hammerhead, Remora, Remora

*Note: I got knocked down when trying this mixture but the fuel was still created. Don't let the knockdown confuse you. It doesn't mean the fuel is bad.

Guide to Vashj'ir Abyssal Depths Alliance quests:

The entire Vashj'ir line starts in Stormwind with Call of Duty.
The immediate pre-requisite to this chain is Full Circle from
Shimmering Expanse.

At any time, kill a Hellscream Seadog to get Claim Korthun's End.

Main chain:

Fuel-ology 101 ( use 2 remora and 3 hammerhead oil)
The Brothers Digsong
Phosphora Hunting
A Lure and Coldlights Out
Optional: Enormous Eel Egg should have dropped, which starts
a quest leading to The Brothers Digsong 2: Eel-Egg-Trick Boogaloo

Next: One Last Favor which also unlocks optional quests

What if i did all combo's of 2 time Remora Oil en 3 time Hammerhead Oil and i get the Promissing Fuel but not the quest done sign

Essentially, you gathered Terrapin oil for nothing. :/
Any amount of Terrapin makes "Smoky" fuel sample and is unsatisfactory.
The only way to complete the quest is to make "promising" fuel, which you need to add 2 Remora oil and 3 Hammerhead. Doesn't matter the order.
If you add any more than 2 Remora oil then you get "atomic" fuel, which will blow up the ship according to your quest giver.

OK. So, you get the quest, go over to the table and mix in 2 Remora and 3 Hammerhead oils. Then once you mix it together, go back to the gnome and ask him to test it. Quest should be completed!

What kind of oil will you take first ?
==> Remora
What type of oil will you select next ?
==> Hammerhead
You now have two samples of oil.Which sample will you select next ?
==> Remora
You now have three samples of oil.which sample will you select next ?
==> Hammerhead
You have four samples and have only room to test one more.Which one will it be?
==> Hammerhead
You have selected all five of your samples
==> Mix the samples together

Then Go to Quest giver and Choose :
"Here , I made a promising Fuel Sample.Three parts Hammerhead and two parts Remora"

Use the Fuel Sampling Station in Darkbreak Cove to create the perfect bio-fuel.

Description

How much do you know about fuel, <name>? Constructing the perfect fuel is a tricky job, as there's plenty of factors to balance: chrono-pyroxidation parameters, tempero-incendiary variables, conflagrational siltification criteria... and that's only naming a few.

Hopefully the samples you brought me can be combined in the right proportions to create... the perfect bio-fuel. Use that table over there and try combining some samples! Bring the result to me when you're done.
