To do this at level 85, I had to kill myself and rez at the GY.

Then I found an ogre-mage and punched him down to about 25% of his health while all my attributes/damage were -75%.

I couldn't do it without the GY debuff.

High level paladins who are short on bag space: turning on ret aura and just standing there until he had low enough health I could use the orb worked for me.

I kept passing this up for completion because I couldn't figure it out. Finally, at lvl 51 (Rogue) I was in the neighborhood so tried hitting a mage and just right-clicking like hell on the trinket (Ogre trap). After several failed attempts ( I kept killing them before it was activated) I finally managed to complete it.

I think it would be easier at a level 36 or so simply because they would stay alive longer. All I can say is do a bit of damage and stop fighting while you right click your butt off.

Easy to do at level 85, take off your clothes and punch the Ogre until he has low health !

As as level 90 priest, I would punch him unarmed but it only did 6 physical damage each punch. I equipped a low level mace I had picked up questing in the area and that whacked him for 46 physical which made it a bit faster.

At level 89 I pulled out my fishing pole and tapped him with that. Not too much damage but enough to keep him alive and me to use the orb.

581 BM hunter, 550 pvp geared while questing in Feralas. I removed ***everything*** out of all my gear slots, equipped my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole, and gave him 2 whacks. That brought the ogre mage to about 1/3 health and I could use the orb. If gear space is a problem, you can vendor your gear (or anything else taking up space), do the quest, and buyback your gear. Just be aware that you can only buyback the last 12 items sold to an npc. After that, you have to use the Battle.net item restoration. If you have the traveling mammoth mount, it makes things easier. Happy hunting!

I had a lot of trouble doing this at 90. Eventually I made it happen by unequipping all my gear, and doing a weak-ass AoE.

As a 90 DK, go all naked, cast DnD, use quest item quickly before the 2nd tick kills him.

At level 69 I unequipped everything and my bare fist hits it for 6k... Impossible to complete at high level as damage multiplier kicks in.

There are 2 ways you can do this at high level:

1/ Get Resurrection Sickness from resurrecting at the spirit healer. Worked for me (I flied up high and dismounted to die). Sorry, Ironman Challenge people.

2/ If you don't feel like dieing on purpose, type /who and ask questing lowbies in the area for help. They don't have to be on this quest. All they have to do is burn Gordok Ogre-Mage to about 20% so you can use Modified Soul Orb on it. Done. If they're from your realm, tip them. If they're not, a lift to and from dire maul would be nice. If you don't have 2 seater, a simple thanks and a buff would do. Again, sucks to be you, Ironman Challenge people (8. No grouping or assistance from other characters, even if not grouped.)

PS: Makes you appreciate Lump who gets beaten into submission to 1% and will not die. Because ADVENTURERS are to decide who lives and who does not afterall, aren't they!

I was able to do this quest at level 100 with full gear, no rez sickness. As a warrior, I used spell reflection. I used it on the Ogre mage's first spell cast and again as soon as my cooldown was done. Unfortunately, once the Ogre is out of mana, he will stop casting and just beat you with his stick. This is when I used Rainbow Generator, a quest reward I got from Felwood. The Ogre should now be weakened for you to use your orb.

As a high-level brewmaster monk, despite getting rez sickness and taking all my gear off, I was still one-shooting them, even with auto-attack. The only ability that allowed me to get them down slowly, (with rez sickness and gear off), was Crackling Jade Lightning.

I did this at 100 on my Hunter. Fly up and dismount so you die of fall damage, take the rez sickness, unequip everything and use Explosive Trap (it requires a ranged weapon, so just equip the weakest one you can find). Use your interrupt to get him to run out of it once he's taken a few ticks.

At lvl 100 I had to unequip all gear + ress sickness, unarmed attack dealt 1k dmg while mob had 1.3k hp (Excellent)

Was able to do this as a level 100 (*EDIT* Resto) druid without using rez sickness:

Get naked, talent into Nature's Vigil, and aggro an ogre-mage (you *must* aggro them first, either by standing on top of them, or via a non-damaging spell like Typhoon or non-bear Faerie Fire)

Now cast Nature's Vigil on yourself, and then cast Rejuvenation on yourself. The Hot will deal 120-140 damage a tick to the aggroed mob, safely bringing him into the range where you can capture him.

As a 110 hunter I had NO shot at this, naked with rez sickness I still was killing them with 1 punch, I tried equipping a low level gun with no stats and using mult-shot, still no luck. I finally hung around until a low level player came to do their quests and waited for them to get 1 low enough.

As lvl 110 I had to get naked, kill myself to get res sickness and use a Rough Dynamite to get it low health. Then I could finish the quest.
For all the non-engineers, a bunch of EZ-Thro Dynamite works aswell, just takes more of them, get an engi to craft them for you.

At level 110 I used Soft Foam Sword to mortally wound the Ogre-Mage before capturing it

Anyone doing this or any other low level "wound the mob" quest in patch 7 or later use the Soft Foam Sword which is purchasable in Stormwind, it works perfectly and doesn't require any rez-sickness or other trouble.

Level 60 trying to not kill these dudes at the end of SL (9.2). Can confirm that foam sword did work, and was for sale at the toy store in Dalaran (Legion). I didn't need to get rez sickness or take off my gear. GLHF

Ogre Abduction

Use the Modified Soulstone to capture a Gordok ogre.

Description

This is neither a crude ogre trinket, nor an ancient relic made by my kind. Its specific construction is new to me...and this fact disturbs me greatly.

The wolf-girl will be sending you to Dire Maul soon, to fight the Gordok elite. They are the leaders of the Gordunni, and would know who is supplying these.

Take the orb back, I've cast a few enchantments on it. Hold it up in front of a weakened Gordok ogre, and once you've captured him, bring it back here.
