You can find the hill you need to capture and defend just south of General Hawthorne at Forward Command. (Sorry, addons are disabled in the current build, so I do not have coordinates.)

When you click on the flag, some Alliance soldiers will spawn. Soon, a large group of Horde NPCs will attack. If you can't handle all of them at once, focus on one at a time and let the NPCs hold aggro.

The flags usually have towers next to them. Theres one flag a bit south of where you get the quest at.

If you do this quest along with Fields of Blood you will take care of about 8 of the 10 required grunt kills in the process.

don't stray too far from the flag or you might not get credit for defending. i went to kill some lions while i waited and came back to not receive credit.

For some reason, the north hill is extremely difficult to hold, but the one to the south is easy.

The south hill felt easier for me, too. I did it with a level 33 elemental shaman who kept dying at the hill on the north. I had to make sure I kept the totems down (especially the fire totem as they like to attack that one to make it go away) and cast thunderstorm, fire nova and chain lightning around a lot of healing (would have been even easier if I had healing potions along which I could use instantly). With a mana pool of almost 1800, I had only about 300 left when we took the hill and completed the quest.

Bottom line is, I never bothered attacking the Horde invaders directly -- I just cast all the multi-target spells I had in my arsenal together with a mana-soaking instant heal when I was getting down to 1/3 or my life or less.

5 Desolation Grunts spawn when you capture the Hill just south of General Hawthorne.

Once you've killed them all be patient and you'll capture the hill around 30 seconds later.

This quest is pretty much the equivalent of Ready for Raiding for battlegrounds that involve flag capping. No matter how easily you can kill the attackers, you will fail if one of them has enough time to cap the flag, so just focus on hitting whichever mob tries to do so and you'll be fine. The friendly NPCs can keep everyone else busy for a while.

Just make sure to keep the adds away from the flag. The other NPC help keep some away, so just focus on the adds that try to cap the hill.

Southern hill at 46.3, 56.8. Northern hill (marked by in game quest tracker) never spawned a flag for me so the southern one was my only choice.

Kill as many Northwatch Recon men as possible but mainly focus on the guys going after the flag. If you die just wait a minuit or so an see if you other men can do it. I my case all my men were killed but I still completed the mission.

found an easy way for doing this for a mage
first of i tried to kill all enemy who get close what failed miserably
then i start thinking you only have to stop them from capping the flag
so what i figured out was by frost nova everyone one
then polly the the one interacting with the flag
the horde npc will eventually kill everyone

I agree this is the best information on how to complete the quest. Just make sure to kill the one attacking the flag. The rest will be taken care of by the npcs.

For those still having issues with getting the flags to show up, this is the recommendations from Blizzard that they gave me when I submitted a help-ticket. This cleared up my problem and I was able to see the flags and complete the quest.

Capture a neutral hill in the Fields of Blood and defend it against a Horde counter-attack.

Description

Strategically, control of a region requires constant observation. See here on this map - I've identified a number of strategic hills, similar to this one, that the Alliance must acquire if we are to keep the enemy under our thumb.

My scouts have already marked their location on the field. What I need is someone to spearhead their capture, and you're the <man/woman> for the job.

Seek out neutral grey flags on hills to the north, east, and south of the Taurajo Ruins. Capture one and defend it!
