Warning to clothies: this quest is near impossible, if not impossible. You take damage from the ginormous dinosaur as well as every single tightly packed mob in un'goro, most of which are not affected by the stun you get. There is just too much incoming damage to survive long enough to beat down the quest dinosaur.

The rewards are also rather disappointing for casters, but there's only been one cloth reward in all of Un'goro up to this point, so I'm not too surprised.

EDIT 3 years later: The quest was indeed broken in 3.3.5. Maximillian did not heal at that time. Glad they fixed it so my comment could be downvoted months (and even a year) later.

Okay, just finished this chain. I'd like to say its a spectacular one of not for the LAST QUEST. Ugh. I don't know if its bugged on live or what, but its obnoxious.

Max throws you onto the back of his horse where he takes you south the Devilsaur Queen (about 36,81). She charges, he panics and runs off. Well now you're facing down this giant Devilsaur from the back of a horse a la Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park. You have two abilities - a 4 sec dash on a 10 sec CD and throw rocks. Cast time is like .25 seconds and each time you dash, you get more rocks. Its basically dash on CD and throw rocks.

The issues? Well, for one you can't throw rocks when she's right on top of you munching on your face. She dashes periodically which can cancel out your dash if you used it when she did. The worst? THE ROCKS ONLY DO 31 (62 crit) DAMAGE TO A MOB WITH 23.5k HEALTH. This is a horrible design oversight. I was circling the steam for 10 minutes lobbing rocks and picking up adds. The one upside is you can't die - Max heals you when your health gets low.

Enjoy a crappy ending to a great chain (also enjoy no caster reward...).

I tried this 3 or 4 times before completing it. I found the trick was throwing Max's armor. I failed the first couple of times because my bags were full and I couldn't receive the armor pieces. The armor hits a lot harder than the rocks and I was able to complete it fairly easily. Actually the you need a bag space for the rocks, and you need to keep throwing them to maintain aggro so that he keeps following you.

I never got thrown any armor (and no, my bags weren't anywhere near full), so I was stuck circling forever throwing tiny rocks. In addition to that, I was left at about half health and when the dino finally died, 4 mobs were there to beat my cloth-wearing butt to death. Terrible quest at the moment, if it's bugged (not throwing armor to some people) I hope it gets fixed soon.

I think I have discovered why this quest bugs out.

I noticed in the video posted above, that the Queen despawns, then respawns, then attacks. This indicates that you have most likely phased to a new phase.
When I did the quest, it bugged, and I did not wait upon reaching the Queen, I immediately started attacking. It therefore never phased me, and the game believed I was attacking a normal mob.

So the key is:
Let him run up to the Queen, and let the Queen attack you, or at least wait until you see it despawn and then respawn. That way it shouldn't bug out.

Also worth mentioning: make sure you have room in your bag. You can miss a piece of Max's armor - he won't try to hand you the same one twice. Not terribly difficult when I did it (retadin 52) - Max was healing me whenever I fell below 50% - but killing the Devilsaur Queen with rocks because Maximillian ran out of armor wasn't the best experience of my life.

Had plenty of open bag space, and did not attack the dinosaur early. NPC never gave me any armor, or indication that I was supposed to be doing anything other than lobbing tiny rocks at the mob.

Other than this last quest, the rest of this NPC's chain was pretty funny! :) But I suggest restarting the quest if he doesn't start stripping because throwing rocks took about 5 minutes to kill the 23k hp dinosaur. Also worth mentioning: he'll drop you at the end with around 50% hp and whatever mobs you still have aggroed while on the horse will still be coming after you.

After killing the Queen and reading the posts here, I reckoned I'd make a neat list of the most important tips for this fight:

- make sure you have bagspace before you start, like 2-3 slots, because you'll need it for the rocks (gathered by stomping , stack in lots of 200) and the pieces of Max's armour

- when you accept the quest and find yourself mounting up for the auto-ride to the Queen's lair, stomp a few times on the way there. This will give you a couple of rocks from the start, which will speed up the kill

- once the fight commences, spam 'throw rock' until you either run out or the Queen comes too close

- stomp on every cd, both to gather more rocks and to keep the Queen at bay

- at some point during the fight, Max will start stripping off his armour and handing it to you so you have extra 'weapons' . Make sure you throw these as soon as they become available, for they do quite some damage

- when the Queen has died, you won't automatically dismount at the campsite. Use the 'leave vehicle' arrow to dismount and head back to the campsite

Just did this quest on Dec 1, 2010 on live and had 40 empty bag spots and never received any armor or any third ability.

Took about 10 minutes to kill the 22k "dragon" with pebbles that hit for 30 each.

This quest was fun after I figured out what to do. When you accept the quest, Maximillian will put you on the back of his lovely horse, Pimento. He will take you to the Devilsaur Queen. He will then kite her around the area. Don't worry, you won't have to steer. Your best bet is to use the stun(1) on the way there on unsuspecting dragons in your path. It will stun them and kick up some rocks. The rocks -will- be useful. Do this as many times as you can. Hopefully the "dragons"(dinosaurs) will have lost aggro on you. Once you begin kiting this Queen, you will want to stun her first, then just start bashing her with rocks(2). When you run out of rocks, push stun(1) again, and hit her with the rocks you've collected from dear Pimento's feet. It takes awhile, considering each rock does 50-90 damage and she is an elite. Eventually she will die, and Maximillian will kick you off his steed where you are, so lower levels might want to prepare for a fight of the surrounding "dragons".

I was very confused when I first hopped on Pimento, and wondered why good ole' Max was just kiting this thing around. I waited for him to stop so we could dis-mount. Obviously, that doesn't happen. The whole questline was an A+ in my book, and I laughed at many occasions during the questline(including the part where Max slayed that poor princesses flying companion and all she could say was "Sqwaky....")

Absolutely terrible quest. After hopping on Pimento, I only got the stun and rock throwing abilities. I never got any armor to throw and had to take down the dino with rocks only. Took FOREVER. Luckily I'm a tank and I had all my tank gear on so I never dropped below 50% without Max healing me, but this was a such a dud way to end this quest chain.

Not to mention the rest of it bugged out, too. The damsel on the cliff never got flung, the damsel at the lake bugged and wouldn't accept the belongings, and the damsel up north never said anything. Bugs all around. Fail.

Just completed these two quests on live and have to agree that this is one of the funnest ideas the WoW devs have inserted into the game. MORE!

My method was to spam rocks from the very start, and as the queen used her dash to catch up, I'd stun her back and kept kiting her with rocks until my stun cooldown was just barely ready for her dashing close again. Rinse, repeat.

@njdss4: Sounds like possibly a client-side patch was needed. On mine the guy vanished on me, I could read his text, and didn't realize the maiden was standing on the outside of the Western Pylon before she supposedly 'jumped'. The 2nd attempt I put him right next to her, then went down. She never jumped, but the text continued and he came down and did his 'more is the pity' routine at her 'dead body'. The lake worked as you must give 'her' the item yourself. My damsel near Silithus also said nothing but the text continued, bird died, and end of quest.

I had the same problem with Maximillian not giving me his armor, actually i've done this quest 3 times on 3 different characters, all without armor. This time when he wasn't giving me his armor i just hopped off the mount, and let him kill me. Tried it again after ressing, and he started giving me his armor.

The option to throw Max's armor never was available for me, either. No third icon appeared for me to click on, so I spent more than 10 minutes riding around doing the quest. Fortunately, Pimento never lost any health and Max kept healing me.

I just did this quest on 2/28. I had 19 spaces in my bags, including 5 spaces in my backpack (the default bag). I never was offered or given any armor. Instead, I was riding around throwing rocks for over 13 minutes, using the stomp to get more, and being healed whenever I got below 50% or so.

So yes, the quest can be bugged and when it does it changes from an amusing and fun quest into a really annoying 10+ minute disappointment.

When I killed the queen, I got the "click to complete quest" -- I got the item, the XP and the gold, but Max just went *poof*, I lost most of my interface including action bars and stuff, was dropped in the middle of two of the steam ellies and three "dragons" -- and got quickly ganked. Seems like a bug?

Small tip to anyone that is high level, once you activate the Dinosaur and start the chase, you can just jump off the horse and kill her. You don't have to wait and use the stones. Wouldn't recommend doing this method as low level though if you can't handle the mob alone though.

Had a bit of an issue with the six minor dinos we aggro'd right as the broodmother died. Maximillian vanished and I was left with six dinos chasing me with half health until I was able to lose aggro. =(

As a Tauran Druid I never got the armor button either, so I just kept throwing stone after stone after stone. Initially I didn't see any effect until the third or fourth loop around. So I just kept at it, letting Max run his horse wherever he wanted. However when the 'dragon' was slain, Max just kept riding in his infernal circle. I figured I didn't want to jump off just anywhere, so I waited until he just passed his starting point and jumped off - nothing aggro'd at this place. I hoofed it back to the starting point and I was able to 'collect' on the quest and get my rewards.

Same issue as of May 6th .. had plenty of bag space but he never gave me any armor to throw or said anything other than that he was healing me. Took forever to take her down with rocks but the trinket was worth it.

I did this quest on my 56 Holy-spec Pally (yeah, I know I should dual-spec Ret for questing, but Ret sucks and I'm lazy and Holy actually kicks ass). The first time, I tried it normal mode, throwing rocks while being chased, and died. I never got the 3rd button, and the dino queen had about 45% health left when I died.

Then I read here that you could just dismount and kill the dino queen normally, so I tried that. The first time I tried, I jumped off and attacked the dino queen before the knight dude yelled to run for your life. I managed to kill the dino queen, and had less than 5% health left. The knight dude disappeared. I went back to the camp, and there he sat, with the incomplete '?' over his head.

So I abandoned the quest, got it again, and went back to the dino queen. This time I waited to dismount until the knight yelled to run. I killed the dino queen really easily this time, and didn't have to Lay Hands like I did on the first fight. For some reason, she didn't seem to damage me all that much, perhaps it was just the roll of the RNG, beats me. Anyway, I killed her and finished at well over 50% health, and as soon as she died, the quest auto-complete thingy popped up, and I got the complete and the very nice blue trinket. The knight had disappeared, btw. Sure would not have hurt things if he had stayed around to help in the fight....

For some reason my rocks were only doing 31-32 damage, and not 50 like the tool tip says. So it got very annoying. I thought about dismounting but on the other hand i didn't want to start over if the quest wouldn't continue as expected.... This quest was bugged for me.

I found this quest extremely boring at the time I was doing it (throwing rocks for 15 minutes on a drake), so I decided to go read some comments here. I then found out that I am supposed to get armor from Maximillian, but I didn't. I checked my bags all the time, and I was not offered any armor. I ended up with killing the drake by tossing 800 rocks on it... So, after quite a lot of rolling my forehead over my two ability-buttons, I was done. Well, at least I succeeded! :)

ok, i finally figured out how to do this quest if it glitches up. For me, Max kept giving me his armor until the legplate. He said it would deliver the final blow, but it didn't, the elite still had about 2000 health left. After running and stunning him for about 5 minutes, i started pegging him with rocks, and slowly, the dragon started loosing his health, and died. Just remember to always stun him whenever you have the chance, and if he stopped giving you armor, just peg the dino with rocks until he dies, which shouldn't take that long if you have already weakened him. It is very glitchy though.

I've been leveling two characters at once through the RAF. This quest is something of a doozy if you try to do it in two windows at the same time! But it's possible since Max has no problems with healing you up.

One thing I noticed: Max says his "stallion" can kick up stones with "her" hooves. Hah! Anyone who knows anything of horses knows stallions are fertile males. Max seems to be a bit confused as to the gender of ol' Pimento.

That said, as soon as you mount up, start using his horse's Stomp. It will kick up a glorious pile of stones! As soon as the dragon appears and begins to chase you, start throwing those stones. In fact, spam-throw them! You should have enough that you probably won't run out in between stomping/stoning/armor throwing.

I love the shoutout to Don Quixote, and I agree with those who said the chain was one of the best in the game. I absolutely agree! In fact, I really like Un'Goro Crater now, whereas before Cataclysm, I absolutely hated the place.

85 prot pally. Just did this. Great quest line. Different and creative. I also, though had some free space in my bags and only got the first piece from Max - his shield, in my case. Also only saw chatter from Max while on horse up to the point where he gave me his first piece of armor...nothing thereafter and no more armor.

Being a tauren, the 'stomp' (stun) was familiar to me. Use it as often as its' cd is up, as soon as the Dev. Queen is on your heels. Then just spam the stone-throwing, and if you get more armor pieces, throw them. It did take around 10 min. to complete, but I was amused, and even other players in the area could see this scenario (the Devilsaur chasing the tauren pally ...big as we are...and Max riding back to back on the horse,...speeding across Un Goro). Got plenty of laughs from others watching this take place and asking what quest it was. So, yes it was glitched for me re: getting more armor to throw from Max., which would deal more damage thus making the ride shorter, but it was still fun. And there are some nice quest rewards if you're at the appropriate level.

I died three times trying to complete this quest, and so I was very surprised to come here and read how "you can't possibly die". So, this was my experience, maybe it'll help you if you have the same problem as me...

Max gave me his armor every time, that wasn't the problem at all. I think the problem was that on my first for seconds on the horse, I was spamming the STOMP key, which was giving me tons of stones to throw. So by the time we got the dinosaur, I had maybe 80+ stones in hand.

***So I never stomped while being chased.***

The thing is, the stomp not only gives you stones, but it slows the dinosaur down. If you DON'T stomp, then he is on top of you the entire run, and Max does not (for some reason) offer to heal you if that's the case. So eventually you die. Oh, and trying to use a potion doesn't seem to work.

My 4th time around, I hit stomp (by accident really) and saw the dino slow down and back off. And then all of a sudden, Max said something about how I look low on health, and healed me. And boom - easy peasy the rest of the way.

It ought to have an "often bugged" disclaimer. Never knew about the armor and there obviously was no #3 button. Absolutely baffled after 15 minutes of trotting around, being chased by the mother of all devilsaurs and in the process also aggroing 275 dimetradons, a dozen oozes, 700 Macedonian warriors, the entire population of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and the London Philharmonic. What they were all doing in the Crater was a mystery to me.

After realizing that all this rock throwing was only annoying the big girl, I hopped off. Naturally Wonder Boy disappeared and I had to face off against Gekko Girl, who is a 55 Elite. Luckily my 57 Holy Priest could self-heal and had a pretty good mana pool because the biggest problem was not so much Big Green as it was the other oozes, dimetradons, spirit creatures and what I can only assume was the Second Bassoonist, all of which together kept one-shotting my shield. I got lucky and whacked the dino with my wand just as I went OOM. How annoying to be killed by trash mobs, I thought but at that moment they all disappeared. Nobody was more surprised than me.

So luck plays a role, as it always does. But be prepared to be buggered, or bugged, or both.

I made the mistake of going in with full bags, and didn't realize my error until he was in his underwear doing nothing but healing. Then i made the mistake of jumping off and abandoning the quest, thinking she'd reset and I could try again. Yeah, instead she chased me all the way to Cenarian Hold in Silithus before I decided to just wail on her. We both died at the same time (ran out of mana and couldn't heal), and I got no credit. Should not have abandoned the quest.

So yeah, unless you like being endlessly chased by a devilsaur, clean out your bags before this quest.

As 85 doing this quest i was just using stun and rock throwing till 50% of the dinos hp... took a while. When decided to dismount from vehicle and kill it with 1 hit. Was reluctant to do that from beginning but apparently it does count as quest objective completed.

The best strategy for completing this quest is to stomp as much as possible while running away because it stuns the devilsaur allowing you to take less damage.

The tactics for killing the "Broodmother" are pretty simple: Stomp when she gets close enough to start chewing on you, then just keep throwing rocks at her. The stomp also stuns it for a few seconds, helping you to get away to throwing range. Funny funny questline! ;-D

OMG I hate this quest. the NPC rides you around in circles and you keep throwing rocks at the dragon. You will get healed by MAX through out the entire quest. But, OMG I was getting dizzy while you keep riding around in circles. Trying to through enough rocks to kill the baddy. You also need to stun when he gets close by. Otherwise, you will get it done w/o dying.

The rock throwing has absolutely no cooldown...so at the very end when shes down to about 200 hp and Maximillion is *ahem* out of armor, you can spam the heck out of the rocks and bring her down pretty quick. : )

I'm currently riding in circles throwing rocks at the devilsaur. It's been about 15 minutes since I started. Maximillian hasn't offered me to throw any armor, and I have more than 40 bag slots available.

for all the people who said this was so fun, lucky you, you got armor and a 3 button >.< i was left forever lobbing tiny rocks and stomping, hitting for 31, critting for 62, and she has 22.8k health, very annoying quest, its impossible to fail, as he will heal you, but its the biggest waste of time i've ever seen in WoW. had i not been going for the shield for transmog til i hit lvl 80 for the CoS heroic sheild for my imperial set, i'd have just dumped it and taken my chances the dino was still agro'd.

a note for everyone who does complete, wherever you hit the "complete" button on the quest, is where your horse disappears, and whatever mobs are chasing you, WILL still be chasing you

Step 2: Start quest.
Step 3: Keep 'Stomp' on cooldown and once encounter begins use to keep queen/broodmother stunned and away.
Step 4: Throw rocks like a madman and hope to live. Did you get the armor? If so, please skip Step 5.
Step 5: Did you comply with Step 1?
If so, then complain all you want that the quest is broken.
If not, then perhaps you'd like to note that the default UI often accommodates ALL mechanics appropriately.
If your ping is greater than 200, you may be lagging and the server might not be able to handle all the stupid.
Step 6: While the queen/broodmother is within an acceptable health range wait until you near Maximillians camp and leave/exit vehicle.

Okay, first note I'd like to point out is I did this 5-7 times. Game crashed 4 of those times and oddly I got to watch TWO queens chase after a tauren on the same quest. After the fourth time I realized I was getting an extraneous amount of UI taint(errors) and decided to disable ALL my addons. Low and behold I didn't crash after the first time around the lake AND I managed to win.

Second note, I fought her after getting her down to 20% health as a level 56 demonology warlock and barely won. My gear was all quest gear; that means I had no heirlooms or dungeon gear. To play it safe attempt at 15% or 10%, which may take some time.

Third note, Maximillian is a crazy mother $!@#er

"Great Uther's ghost, it's chasing after us! Squire, do something! Throw rocks at it! I have no plan!"

"Oh $#17, no kidding! You thought a dragon was going to sit around while you STABBED it!"

Final note, I leave this info in hopes it aids those looking for an answer and a laugh.

All total the fight took nearly 22 minutes, as he never took any armor off for me to throw. Nothing like a single quest that takes as long as a heroic. >.<

One of the funniest quest chains I've done in a while, but fighting that Devilsaur Queen simply took me 15 very boring minutes. Doing 30 damage per rock isn't enough Blizz..

Just dismount and kill her. She will have about 14k health after the armor, she's stunnable and snareable. She hits like a normal mob. If you can't kill her given all these, I pity thee.

I used the stun on cooldown and threw the rocks as fast as I could. I never got any armor, nor ever saw any third button.

Eventually got her down to about 26k HP before I died.

I generally like questing, but this was a dumb one and a time-waster.

I got armor handed to me, but I couldn't believe it when he was out of armor and she still had half health! Took forever to finish her off stomping and throwing rocks. Way too long to be fun.

The quest needs to have you go around the lake once throwing rocks while Max is oblivious to the fact that that rocks don't do much damage saying things like "Yeah! That pebble will bring her down!" and "Hit her in the eye! That will stop her!" THEN, he should realize that rocks aren't working and start with the armor and funny comments. The armor should bring her down by the time you are done with two more circuits. The way it goes now is just tedious. Great quest chain otherwise.

For people thinking this quest is very long since rocks do 50 damage, i tell you...

Just dismount and kill her. You can even down her from 100% to 0%.

As a cloth, she hit me for 300 physical damage, she can be snared, rooted, feared, stunned, etc. Just 2 much hp but pretty much faster to kill her dismounted from 100% rather than waiting to use maximiliam armor as throwing armor hits for 3k-5k and you get 1 piece like once every 20 secs and you can obviously do more damage than that in 20 secs.

After at least 15 minutes of struggling with this quest, when devilsaur had around 1700hp left i've met alliance hunter who one-shot me. I have to say thank you random guy, my day would't be complete without nerdrage.

At the moment, this quest still seems to be bugged somehow, as I get rocks and armor normally, but all of it does far less damage than it did the first few times I did the quest. This last time, I threw all the stuff he gave me, throwing rocks in between armor pieces, and then dismounted to finish her off once I was in a clear spot. It was very simple. So you really don't need to waste your time running in circles when you have only rocks to throw. Just dismount and fight her, she doesn't hit too terribly hard, and you'll get credit normally.

Unless you want to spend 20 minutes throwing rocks at this "dragon", i suggest that after Max hands you his pants, (his last piece of armor) you should jump of the horse and finish off the beast yourself.

As of 5.2.0, the quest was "working" for me. I say "working" because everything worked fine, except for the numbers. He gave me his armor, but even after giving me his pants, she still had 18k health left. So I tried killing her with rocks. The rocks say they're supposed to do 50-55 damage or so, but they were only doing 34-35 damage, crits were 66. The armor said it was supposed to do 5k, but it only did 3.5k. So after getting her to 2k health, some d*ck comes along and kills her. I don't get credit. So I just run over to where she spawns and kill her. I still don't get credit.

So finally, I got back on his horse, used up all his armor, then jumped off and killed her that way. That finally got me credit and without having to run around for 10-15 minutes throwing rocks at her hoping nobody will come along and kill her.

If this quest doesn't give you the armor then get off mount and kill him, if you die go back to him start ride, and THE SECOND you start to get chased get off the mount and use your abilities, I know it works for a hunter as of patch 5.2, but I'm not sure about other classes.

I had a bit of trouble with this quest when i was doing it as Fury Warrior, after dying for the 6th time i went Protection and suddenly the quest was super easy.
She was only able to deal about 1500 damage by the time i killed her.

Stupidest quest ever made. Why? You can be killed while riding the horse. Impossible to finish in active pvp servers. Oh, you're riding a horse and can't attack back or run away? Well i'm level 90 and i just feel like one shot killing you so you have to start all over again. EDIT: Oh and "HAve fun spirit walking 1000-1500 yards to your corpse every time i kill you".

So after reading all the player comments, I can only assume that she was buffed when Mists came out.
She now has almost 50k health, and as a level 55 frost mage she hit me for about 1k. (I had 5.6k health)
Now not only do the rocks only hit for about 30 damage, Max runs out of armor when the Queen is at about half health...this means you have to keep throwing rocks for almost 22k damage.
So, unless you want to spend about an hour on this quest, I suggest going until you run out of armor, then dismounting and killing her. It's a difficult fight; especially since you come into it around 50% health and pull 2-3 other dinosaurs, but can be done with some CC action. (I was lucky and had a shaman stop and heal me hehe)
Also something to note was that you cannot just go up and fight her, you have to bring Max with you to start the encounter, so even high levels must go through the beginning of the fight on the horse before dismounting and killing her.

There's a humorous error in the flavor text as you first get on the horse, too. "You should try using my stallion's stomp ability. Her hooves will cleave the ground itself"

This quest was a pain I got tired of throwing rocks and stunning seemed to do no good or took forever to make a dent in the HP I finally dismounted to attack the Dino but made a huge mistake and was surrounded by everything in the area including the Dino. Finally came here and found out you can fight it with out throwing rocks. thanks for the info.

Definitely one of the top 10 worst quests, Blizz. Their developers just have to be LTAO every time someone does this quest. The HP for this dino is way too high to do the quest the way it was intended.

so after youve thrown all of maximillians armor at the "dragon"'s face.. you can just leave vehicle and kill the dino.

just beware that it hurts quite a lot. it killed my 4100 hp pet (a fox) within just a few seconds.

i dismounted when it had about 11000 hp left. pretty well geared in heirlooms.

but its a ton faster than throwing 30 dmg rocks at it for 20K dmg...

Can be difficult doing this on a PvP realm - enemy players can attack you while on the horse, and a persistant ganker won't have much trouble fidning you between Maximillian's shouting and the train of dinosaurs you pull.

4 years of comments, none explaining the issues of the "bug". Here's my take:

The path Maximilian takes you, has you taking all the hits from the hostile DRAGONS.
Leaving myself (a clothy) at half health.

The only dialog I was able to conjure up with only 50% health was;

"Maximillian of Northshire says: Your health is faltering. Allow me to help."

Because of this, he didn't trigger the armor dialog, thus I remain empty handed.

Make sure you're full health
Clear 3 slots of inv. space
Take the ride with Maximillian
Arrive at Queen
Wait for Dialog/respawn (Check for the 0/1 )
Stomp only when you're too close to throw stones
Throw armor when available
Grin of success.

Blizzard simply needs to change the aggressor to the horse instead of the player, having the quest fail if s/he dies.

If you're like me, and have no way of getting to the Queen at full HP. Try typing /who and asking a higher level in the area to meet you @35, 82.

throw rock: 778 hits (I KNOW, I KNOW. 778 rocks are so many but the chain, including this quest, is very funny and you should do it)

single worst quest in wow.... i bet i was on that stupid horse with max for 45 mins throwing rocks at 30 pts a whack... at a critter with 45k health pts... AFTER i used 7 pieces of armor.... (which got him down to about 23k)

i jumped off and let those that were following me.. get me dead... way more fun than another 45 mins of throwing pebbles at a giant.

Seriously: !@#$ THIS QUEST. !@#$ IT SO HARD. It is the most hilarious quest-line in the game, but the most disgustingly broken on a balance/mechanics level.

I refuse to sit on a horse for an hour spamming keys. And that's pretty much how long it would take. It is basically impossible for my mage at level 54. The "Broodmother" hits for 700+ damage every bite/stomp once I'm dismounted, sometimes crits for 1000+. That's enough to do me in, completely disregarding the horde of other mobs I'm sure to attract riding on pimento with that jag of a paladin. Said paladin will only heal me up to just over half health too, which means I survive 5 hits max, or maybe 7-8 with my shield. Even if I pop a pot, I'm done.

There's just no freaking way. After sitting on the horse for 30 minutes spamming stones, using up all the armor, and getting her down to 9000 health, I finally realized they weren't going to let me throw his GODDAMN SWORD. I got off. Dead within seconds. CC'd her as best I could, but I died when she was at like 3000 health.

I hope whoever wrote this quest lives forever though, so it kind of balances out. Seriously though, to hell with this quest. This is the first time since coming back to WoW where I've been legitimately angry at the game, and I get ganked constantly on this PvP server.

We probably don't strictly need another comment complaining about exactly the same things as the preceeding 98, but I'm posting this anyway because the quest is bad enough that it deserves as much criticism as we have space to store.

This could be fixed any number of very simple ways. Simply doubling the damage dealt by armor pieces would probably do it, so that you aren't reduced to doing ~20K damage 35 points at a time (with time-limited ammunition, no less). Letting Max remain as a normal NPC and simply having him tank would work too, since the humor of the quest chain doesn't follow into this fight with the current mechanics anyway.

It is possible to end up with two people in the same position on the trail, each fighting a different dinosaur, but able to stun both. This actually leads to some problems and makes the fight even sillier.

There's also a bug, possibly due to the overlap with another player, where the horse ("<Name>'s Pimento") went grey while I was riding it, but that didn't seem to interfere with completion.

Any effort to fix this quest would be welcome.

I think this quest is bugged. I did this four times today, first three times, took the ride up to dino, started to run, used moves 1 and 2 when available but throw amour never triggered. This ended up in me riding till the dino killed me.
Then the fourth time, did the same, ran up, used move 1, started to used move 2. But this time he died somehow within me using all my move 2.

This is oddly frustrating. Dont know if anyone else is experiencing this.

TLDR: The quest is NOT bugged!

On the way over to the Queen, use "1" as much as possible but taking care not to accidentally pull a "yellow" mob. The "red" mobs get pulled anyway so who cares. The reason you spam "1" is that aside from its main purpose of stunning, it also generates rocks and you will be needing lots of them.

As you approach the queen, target her by clicking on her. You will pause and she will approach you. Don't do anything. Judging the animation, hit "1" as late as you dare. Shortly after you will run away on the horse. Spam "2".

As you are running away switch camera angle so you are looking behind you. Just as she catches up to you (i.e. her big red circle is almost over you, hit "1" to stun. If lucky your "1" will not pull some big yellow mobs.

Once again spam "2". Wait for the optimal time to hit "1" as per above.

Eventually you will get a "3" - Max's armour pieces. Hit "3" when she is near you. Not too far away. While waiting for the next "3" you should hit "2".

And so on. Eventually you will wear her down. Fight done in about 5 minutes. Level appropriate Mage.

Absolutely do NOT jump off your horse as a Mage and kite - she will out pace your (double) Blink / Blazing Speed / Frost Nova / Freeze (Frost) / etc. And you will only kite through more mobs. Bad idea.

While on the horse, if she does stomp you then it means you are timing your "1" wrong. Getting your "1" timed perfectly is the key. Quest is not bugged.

And your "3" does too little damage? Then she was too far away. Once you get "3" available then it is the quest designers way of providing you with a reoccurring "finishing" move.

Obviously the "2" was never meant to be the means to defeat her. It is there to give you something to do between your "1" and "3", all of which must be timed very well indeed.

You will NOT get her health bar right down. You are merely required to survive long enough in the saddle and significantly deplete her health to be honest. At the end you are suddenly dismounted, she remarkably "drops dead" from some mysterious finishing move from perhaps Maximillian, and you are declared the victor. Good job adventurer!

(Level 53 Frost Mage).

As of 6.0.3 this quest seems impossible to complete. Tried it 5 times. Each time, exactly the same thing - the queen starts chasing us, I throw rocks, armor, etc. at it and then suddenly I die. In the exact same spot each time! I hadn't taken any damage up to that point - it's just a sudden death. Max doesn't even have a chance to heal me, if he still does.

I've killed the queen twice without riding along with Max - once before getting this quest, and once after resurrecting. Killing the queen when not riding behind Max does not complete the quest.

I've abandoned the quest...

With the items squish, this quest i SO MUCH easy to complete now.

"Dinostrasza" died so quickly that, on my new druid, I thought this was bugged or som level 100 one-shotted her (she died whil I was taking screenshot with the UI hided), so I repeated 3 times in a round.

Now you only need to throw her 5 or 7 pieces of Max's armor to slay her, which is a shame, 'cuz I loved/hated get stuck on a horse throwing tons of rock for 15-20 mins.

When you accept the quest, you'll automatically hop onto Maximillian of Northshire's mount Pimento.

The mount itself will have two abilities (appears in the following order on your action-bar):

Stomp
Throw Rock (requires Small Rock)

Use the first ability to stun the Devilsaur Queen, and the second ability to damage her.

as of 19th of july 2016. Quest is more than doable.

IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES, DISABLE ALL UI ADDONS!

It took me around 2 minutes to do this quest using just the horse and abilities given.
stomp on cd at the start, you get about 70 rocks stored, when you get to big dino only stomp when shes really close.

This stuns her and you gain some distance, very quickly you get given some armour to throw at her, again wait until she's very close, Throw armour then stomp.

Spam rocks throughout.

She died about 4 pieces of armour in for me.

No issues with this quest. Note i had all my addons disabled.

I just did this quest so I could get the shield for an xmog, and upon completion, I didn't get the choice of any rewards. Basically just sent me on my way. Is it bugged in that fashion for anyone else?

As of 7.1, I can confirm that this quest is still soloable. Did it as a Ret Pally, just dismount right after the Queen starts following you Jurassic Park style. The biggest challenge is to avoid other characters killing her for whatever reason (same quest, skinning, farming).

So the quest "The Ballad of Maximillian" offers three rewards: a sword, a shield, and the Toy Windmill. However, the Toy Windmill is not available to paladins to choose according to the GM response to a ticket I sent in yesterday.

I know how this can be frustrating. I looked here on the character Dreamshadow and I was able to see that you have got the shield and the sword as reward from this quest. I understand that you want the toy, but for this quest the rewards are related to class- and spec-specific. The only classes that can choice the toy as reward are Shaman, Rogue, Monk, Hunter, Druid and DH.

I find it odd that it says I even received the shield and sword because I did not - but I DID, however, receive the transmog appearances for them according to my chat frame after completing the quest.

So if you're going for the Toy Windmill item on any character other than Shaman, Rogue, Monk, Hunter, Druid, or Demon Hunter - you're out of luck.

I couldn't figure out how to use the armour either, because I had no VISIBLE 3 button - but after getting the Queen very tediously to 60% just from rocks (I'm stubborn), I tried pressing 3 anyway, the armour flew and she dropped like a... Small Rock!

As of right this moment, it is physically impossible to solo this quest after the stat squish. Rocks don't even tickle the dino, and neither does the armor thrown. You don't have enough time with her chasing you to slowly wind her down, because of the mobs that eventually run by you and chop at you steadily. It just hurts too much.

The patch made it impossible to do this due to overly tuned mob damage. The hotfix yesterday afternoon fixed this. So go finish it and get your achievement! Just got my Loremaster of Kalimdor!

Had to give up on this one as a level 54 warrior. Throwing rocks and armour did hardly any damage, while the dragon did plenty of damage to me and I died pretty quickly. Tried again and this time dismounted to see if I could kill the dragon that way instead - did a lot more damage, but she was still way stronger than me and I died.

I really don't understand all the comments saying this is harder post-Shadowlands. It is just as difficult as I remember it being the last time I ran this quest line several years ago. Anyway, here's how I easily completed this quest yesterday (and every time before that):

While you're running away from the "brood mother," Stomp whenever she gets too close and then FRICKING SPAM Throw Rock the rest of the time. You get more rocks each time you stomp, and the Throw Rocks attack is instant-cast, with no cooldown. It literally throws rocks as fast as you can press your "2" button on your keyboard. Yes, a single rock does minimal damage, but a hundred of them? Absolutely lethal. You can kill the brood mother in 30 seconds using rocks alone.

this quest is still possible to complete, it's possible it's been nerfed because i didn't find it difficult. just did it on my priest (disc priest no less) without dying. on the way to the broodmother, be sure to stomp anytime dinosaurs get near you (if they're yellow/not aggroed you don't have to of course). once you get to the broodmother, keep her targeted and just spam the heck out of throwing the rocks. throw his armour as soon as he passes you one, and any time she gets too close be sure to stomp, then start spamming the rocks again. only had to use two pieces of his armour.
