Squire Danny is on the absolute far west side of the tournament, at the back of the ring.

The Champion is much more difficult to beat then the previous Valiant opponents. While I could easily beat the Valiant's with 90% HP remaining, it took a couple of attempts to beat the Champion.
What worked for me was primarily staying in melee range. I'd go to minimum range for the shield breaker, then immediately back in to melee. The goal was to prevent the Champion from removing my shield charges. Spend too much time at range and he will shield break -> charge, and chances are if he pulls that of you will lose.
Once I could get him down to 1 shield charge I'd get at minimum distance to charge him, then melee, and rinse repeat until dead.

When you become champion with your home city and have the daily quests that give champion's seals open up... can you still get and do those if you become a valiant with another city?

My home city is Undercity and I'm a champion now... but can I become valiant for say Orgrimmar and still do daily quests for Champion's Seal?

A good strategy that has not been mentioned is to do the following:

-Stack 3 defends.
-Engage the champion
-Spam '1' until the champion moves to range.
-As soon as it is in range, use charge.
-Go a *short* way past the champion before beginning the turn.
-While turning around to re-engage the champion (with your mouse, keyboard is too slow - this is important) spam '2'. About 50% of the time you will get off a shield breaker and take off another of the champion's defends. If he does it to you, simply stack another defend back up to 3 and rinse/repeat until he submits.

This method is effective for all mounted combat.

Got it down on my first try

The way I did it was

1. Stack shield till 3
2. As soon as fight starts stay close and spam 1 until they move away
3. Use 2 as soon as they're out of range and run forward as soon as you throw out shield break
4. Run towards them and repeat from step 2. Keep a close look of your shield and put it back on whenever is needed

It might take a bit longer than using charge but it's a easier way if you're not good at controlling charge

I find this INCREDIBLY frustrating. The earlier melees were easy enough.

I've noticed that the Champion is getting his charge off closer than I can, and that a few times he's got off two breakers in quick succession, or a charge and a breaker straight after each other (no CD on his abilities?).

The combat log shows when I've applied a Shield Breaker, but not when the Champion does. In most encounters, I could be standing on top of him and suddenly all of my shields are gone and i'm beaten before I can apply Defends.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

That does not work. The champion can take down 2 shields while you're still making the turn. For that matter, the champion can take down 2 shields while you're still in melee range. Every time I'd get him to about 85%, then bam, I suddenly lose all my shields and he hasn't moved.

I got this far in the series and then just gave up. I don't know how to do this event with any kind of latency. Too frustrating, too demoralizing.

I did it this way too, it worked great.

I would spam 1, move out to minimum range, spam 2 til he started walking away for his charge, then I'd close the gap, spam 1, rinse and repeat.

It does take longer but it was so much easier for me this way.

This is the worst quest i have ever done

the easiest way to do it is to just stand right beside him slowly follow him when hes running and spam 2

watch that you don't run out of the arena because you will lose which happened 3 times

also at certain times i would lose all shields like that NOTHING happens i just lose them.

seriously blizzard needs to fix this #$%^.

another thing add 3 shields when you get on the damn mounts.

I'm glade i never have to do this quest ever again

This is an impossible quest if you have any kind of lag at all... I found that even with 400ms lag, you just can't beat him because of his no-cool-down charge and shield break. I don't know how anyone else managed this, but I haven't been able to beat it after two weeks of trying.

A lot of these posts offer good mechanics for winning these fights, Naxxos and Thorongil in particular. Learn these tactics and you'll find these fights very easy.

My problem was that even though I read this advice a dozen times I needed a eureka moment before I could practice it in game. So here's my two bits: If you remember nothing else, your goal is to keep your opponent's shield count below your own. Accomplish this and you will win going away, every time.

Valiant opponents start with two shields (Champions with three) so your initial pass will take them down by one, if not two (with a break), shield stacks. When you reengage in melee your hits will be 2-3k+ and theirs will be ~300 because they never had a chance to lower your defenses. Milk this advantage; do not break away for anything. Eventually the NPC will attempt to gain range for a charge/break but you will always beat them to the punch by spamming charge as they retreat. Turn, attempt to break, reengage in melee, etc.

Always let the NPC initiate the cycle. If the NPC ever does succeed in dropping your shields by a notch or two, don't panic, just get them back up and stick with the program.

This method wins fights even if started out part dead because you failed to heed Thorongil's advice and heal up after a previous bout. (I would never do that!) Finally, get in the habit of refreshing shields each time you reengage in melee. This will ensure your shields never time out.

If you can't find your Horde Lance it may have been deleted from your bags when you turned in Battle Before The Citadel. Drop this quest and take it again to get a new lance.

The Valiant's Challenge

Speak with Squire Danny to summon your opponent. Once you have defeated the Argent Champion, return to Mokra the Skullcrusher at the Argent Tournament Grounds.

If you lose your lance, you can get another from any of the Lance Racks near the stables or in the Sunreaver Pavilion.

Description

You are nearly ready to compete in the grand melee. To prove yourself worthy of this honor, you must defeat a champion of the Argent Crusade.

Go to the stables outside the pavilion, equip your lance, and mount up. Speak to Squire Danny at the Argent Valiants' Ring on the western edge of the grounds. The squire will call out your opponent when you're ready.

After the battle is concluded, we will speak of the outcome.
