This is very easy, simple do as told in the decription.
Behind the gnome there is a table, right click on one of the bears to pick it up. Target the robot aka S.T.O.U.T, hes a few yard north from the table, and throw the bear at him. Do this five times and your done!

The trick is to stand right on the S.T.O.U.T. and then cast the beer.. worked like a charm for me :D

Confirmed my butt, just successfully did the quest by throwing it from the tables. Along with several others, being around 20 others.
I'll hypothesize that the bug was actually there in the first place, but no longer applies.

edit: this was actually a response to a bunch of people who thought that you needed to stack on the robot in order to actually hit him, that being the ONLY way to get him.

I was at this for a while, and it wasn't working for myself and another player. We tried re-logging and it didn't work. However what finally did it was disabling all our addons. Not quite sure why they were interfering with this, but it worked just fine for both of us after we disabled them.

This worked. I was literally hitting him square on from the tables, but no credit. Standing on him was the only way I could make it give me credit.

e: Saw about another 3 people trying to hit him with no credit, told them to stand on him and it worked for them.

Facepalm when people down rate *correct* information.

I did it by just going to the target and stayin infront of it after i just trow and done :)

As others has said if you turn off addons you can do it from the table. Otherwise you have to stand on-top of the mob. Please refrain from being such a jerk.

Turn off the "Full-Screen Glow Effect" setting at the Video / Effects menu if it's turned on.

At first I couldn't hit him one time after at least a 100 throws... after I changed that setting, and reloaded WoW, all my throws hit S.T.O.U.T.

...

Maybe logging was enough to solve it, like Psychoceramics says down here, but turning off that video effect makes your screen look crystal clear even when you're starting to see Wolpertingers and Pink Elekks... ok, everything on screen is still spinning, but it doesn't look like the usual blurred drunken screen.

When the brewfest is over I turn it on again, but for now I'm happy this way :D

I was one of the people who had issues hitting him. I received a tip from a guildy that allowed me to complete it easily.

Grab a complimentary stein. Logout, then log back in. You are now good to go for all 5 hits.

As others has said if you turn off addons you can do it from the table. Otherwise you have to stand on-top of the mob.

Didn't work for me, disabled everything and hit him right on his head several times from the table.
Enabled addons and stood on him hitting him: worked, done in 10 seconds.

Works. I actually did it on my Hunter when it first started up just fine by standing from the tables. Then I tried it on my DK alt and I had to use the stand on top of him method.

SOLUTION: If you are having trouble with this make sure you are not targeting anything when you take your drink. If you are targeting something your throws are random/you never hit, but if you have nothing targeted you will hit every time. Reloging 'seems' to work for some people just because you log in with no target and it magically works. Have fun!

This quest seems bugged, can fail with no apparent reason on one character while working fine for others.
After completing quest with no issues on druid and priest, with my rogue i was missing S.T.O.U.T. all the time.
I have the same addons installed on all three characters, i disabled them to be sure, i also followed all other suggestions on the page but was still missing the robot.
The only way i managed to get this to work was standing right on top of the S.T.O.U.T. when tossing the stein.

Apparently this quest also gives you credit for defeating the Argent Valiant for http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=13679. Hitting the target a single time gave me quest credit and the small robot actually had a quest note in his tooltip stating this would happen. Not sure if this is the same for horde. For those who don't know what to do: go to the tables in the tent behind the quest giver. When you mouse over the beers on the tables, you'll see a gear sign, cilck one of the mugs, then click it in your inventory to make yourself throw it at the robot walking around behind the tent. After you hit him 5 times you're done.

You pick up an Alcohol-Free Brewfest Sampler from the tables behind the quest giver Boxey Boltspinner. The on-use effect is a one-second-cast that causes you to drink the Sampler and throw the empty mug in the direction you are facing.

Aiming is fairly forgiving. I was able to hit S.T.O.U.T. five times in a row without trying very hard.
