You need 35 shards to start the quest, the game works the same as the small version, except that you need 4 people standing at each button.
After 6 rounds a giant will spawn, kill it for the quest item!

The best way to do this without screwing it up is to watch the spark and type into chat the first letter of the color the spark is. For example, if it sparks yellow, green, green, blue, yellow, as each color flashes, quickly type the first letter of each color into a chat message, like this: y g g b y.

Make sure you say it in party chat so your group knows which colors to press in what order.

You have to do patterns starting with 1 color and ending with 6 colors. After you complete a pattern of length 6, a fairly easy boss comes for you to kill. Four people is more than enough to down this boss (the quest requires at least 4 since you need 1 person standing on each of the lights).

The boss drops an Apexxis Crystal (not to be confused with Apexxis Shard) as well as some random green / blue loot. The Apexxis Crystal is used to purchase some of the reputation reward loot from the Ogri'la quartermaster. If you are pugging this boss, I would recommend giving the person who summoned the boss the Apexxis Crystal, since that person had to spend 35 shards to summon. Meanwhile, everybody should get a chance at the green / blue loot that drops as a reward for having participated.

Finished this quest with 3 people (Paladin, Rogue, Priest). We spawned the boss with only 2 the day before but had a rough start as we weren't expecting the elite to pop and ended up wiping at ~30%.

Two people each standing in the middle of two buttons can easily spawn this, you don't need 4 people. If you find the right spot, you can reach both buttons without moving (this is not required though, you can still move enough to reach the buttons even with the debuff).

Second try we brought a priest along to heal while the pally tanked. Moderate difficulty fight with 3, though never in danger of death or wiping at all.

As said above, dropped a green item and one apexis crystal.

A note for this quest - we stuffed it up royally because three of our group hadn't done any Ogri'la quests so they didn't know what to do. We failed on the third one (three buttons), but the guy still appeared and we got the quest done.

Easily two manned. Rogue and Resto shammy between two halves of the pad. Boss hits leather for around ~2.2k so unless you have a shit shammy then you're good to go. It helped a great deal being on Vent too :P

Easily 3-manned by druid tank, hunter (me), and priest. The guardian has just under 150k HP according to my damage meter.

I can confirm that it spawns even if you mess up on the clicking, I tried soloing one by kiting it to the ogre camp. (That -might- just be possible if it uses it's aoe attack and aggros them, but it didn't and I had to give up and Feign Death when my HP got too low from it's ranged rock throw attack).

Will complete the daily "Emanation's" quest upon completing correct sequence. I was with a party helping a guy do the Guardian of the Monument and got the daily completed upon completing correct sequence.ö

Here is a great trick to solo this guy (ranged dps only, sorry)

Go to the summoning point directly south of O'grila. A few step to the west of the summoning point, there are two blade structures sticking out of the mountains where you can kite the guardian. So, after summoning him, you climb one of these structure with the guardian in tow, and when he is close to you, you jump to the second structure. What happen next is the guardian won't follow you directly but doubleback to reach you from another route. Shoot him down at your leisure while he is moving around the structures, and when he is close to you again, jumb back to the first structure. Rince and repeat. All you need is some bandages and mana pots. I did it twice this way without any sweat. As a hunter, it took me around 6 minutes to kill him this way.

Subtlety Rogue and Discipline Priest duoed it. Hits for about 2.2k on leather, does a stun about every 30-45 seconds that lasts 6 seconds. Took about 3-4 minutes to down him, but pretty easy overall.

I suggest pulling him away from the spawn point off to the side if you're going to duo him, though. Respawns could possibly happen, and although they won't wipe you, it's just another annoyance.

Duo'd by two holy paladins, with one tanking / DPS and the other keeping up Judgement of Wisdom and healing. It took 10 minutes on the dot to down him.

Just duo'd this guy with a resto druid and myself being a shadow priest. Neither of us geared terribly well (I'm pretty much decked out in quest blues/greens), but we managed to pseudo-kite him with me keeping mind flay up and my friend running a circle around the monument. When I got aggro the roles switched with me running the circle. Not too hard at all, it took a few minutes but neither of us were ever in danger of dying so I'd say this is pretty easy if you're ranged and have at least one friend. :D

Note: Although he doesn't shrink down like the other Outland giants, he still slows down in movement speed every 25% health he loses.

Soloed by a 70 Demo lock, just put yr fel guard on him and he'll tank, just dot up and refresh dots, what out for taking aggro off him. remeber to healthfunnel when he goes low on hp.Took about 3 mins to kill him.

This can be easily soloed by any class at 80. The elite has only ~150k HP and hits for very little. Just hit the wrong color first, heal up the damage from the game and kill the elite - easy 500 rep.

Confirmed not able to be soloed by a rogue.

Full 10 man gear with a few 25 man pieces, used a runic healing potion, Charged Crystal Focus and evasion and still no dice.

Just solo'd him with a 75 demo lock (though any other spec is good). Used Felguard (succubus works if you're not demo just as well) to keep constant damage. Rotation was: curse of weakness (to reduce the impact he has on the pet that's tanking), corruption, shadowflame, immolate. Between casts keep a constant health funnel fed to the pet and make sure their health doesn't fall below 3k. It's a little time consuming, but he died and didn't scratch me.

dident have to use either bubble or Lay on hands. just keep useing Art of war for instant Flash of lights.

Barely soloed as a level 80 frost mage. Immune to frost nova or any type of snare effect. Frostbolt was good for slowing.

If you kite him to Ogri'la, the npcs do NOT assist you.

Had to use Cold Snap, so I pulled out frost pet twice, used ice barrier the entire time, used mirror images.

I should've died, but somehow survived.

I ice blocked twice to get aggro off me and just pulled out all the dps I could muster when aggro was on pet and images.

It was a kill, but not a clean one. I'll be better prepared next time.

And no, you don't need to do the correct sequence. Click the wrong color right off the bat and the guardian appears. You can do the correct sequence if you want, if you're doing the Emanation quest at the same time, for sh!ts and giggles so you don't have to waste shards later, but if you don't get the right sequence for summoning this boss, no worries.

Yay for it counting toward On the Blade's Edge quests.

Soloed as a feral druid in cat form on the 5/3 2010. My gear is a couple of pieces of T9 some Emblem of Triumph gear and some heroic epics and blues, my specc 0/55/16. Basically all you have to do is just do your standard boss rotation (replacing shred with Mangle, so Mangle, Rake, (if you want, mangle to 5), Savage Roar, Mangle for combo points refresh rake as needed, rip, rinse and repeat) and you should be fine (I survived with 2k hp without healing other than from Improved Leader of the Pack).

I suspect it would be a complete cakewalk in Bear.

Just soloed as 80 hunter with a gorilla pet. I didn't even have to complete 6 rounds - I did only 2 and the boss spawned, strangely. And it took about 10 seconds to kill him.

Just a little tip for all those 80's achievement farmers - make sure there aren't any players of the opposite faction around. I used 35 shards and then immediately got killed by some horde guy, who attacked from behind. And there go my shards...

According to the quest description you need 4 people to operate the monument (which would make it impossible to solo). That requirement is removed, but the quest description is apparently not changed.

Cut short you can do it alone now :)

Ok, I just did this quest solo on a level 70 BM hunter in Outland gear and I am a little confused by the comments here.

1) The 'fail lightning' only hit me for about 2k damage.

2) The guardian was simple tank and spank fight with just the occasional (stunning, but not damaging) crystal prison on my char.

I didn't see any AoE, nor did I get any rocks thrown at me, in fact I didn't take any damage at all, and by just chaining mend on my tenacity pet was easily able to keep it above 50% health at all times.

Morale: If you are a BM hunter at 70 and can't find a group, give it a try. I am glad I did, since it pushed me into exalted :).

I don't see why you have to do it wrong and get 32k damage when you can avoid it, lol.

As an 85 warrior, I simply looked at the colour combination, after 3 combinations exactly the guardian spawned (I'm sure not to have made any mistake cause I still had 124k health, so at full), like 147k hp, and hit me (dps gear with 363 item level) for 1.000, and it also has a very low hit chance.

550 rep for completing the quest (10% is the guild perk), and no problems activating it solo, just insert 35 shards in the central apexis monument.

I just did this solo without failing it (patch 4.2 10/17/11), my tip is to figure out exactly how far you need to be to click the spot on the thingy, and be at that spot as it's telling you the pattern, you should have just enough time to hit each one without it resetting! quite simple <3 good luck rep getters! :D

While failing the tune replay is very easy, getting the correct tune replayed with single player is next to impossible due to the slowing debuff (practically impossible to arrive at far awide buttons in time).

My understanding from the comments is that you go into the "Simon" platform, give it an apexis shard, hit the wrong button and the NPC appears. I hit the wrong button and lost 44K health. No guardian. I got zapped two more times and now have a big armor bill.

Just tried to solo this, which at 85 should be no big deal, but due to the movement speed debuff it's quite a pain. :) I'm not sure if I was too slow, but after 2 color combinations, the giant spawned (thankfully!) and naturally killing him at 85 was no challenge. :p

So just a heads up, if you're solo, have no fear of losing your 35 shards.

I'm working on Loremaster and I got to this quest.

I was worried about the color combinations so I went and downloaded Ogri'lazy, the add on. Didn't need it at all. Only had to do 1 COLOR! it shot a lazy out to the yellow and that was it.

I REALLY wish I had actually read the quest before attempting it.
Was having issues with that other really annoying one, The Relic's Emanation. gave it up and did this instead thinking I wouldn't have to play that damn game anymore.

Luckily it was only like 4 or 5 sequences (didn't keep track), so I made it through.

I'm REALLY glad I turned in "The Relic's Emanation" before I did this quest because he gives you 15 shards as a reward. Usually I like to do all the open quests and then hand them in at the same time, but you'll waste time killing more than you need to if you do that here.

Also, when I activated the monument and it started blinking colors at me, I was like, "oh h*** no," but after about two colors, the guy just came. You do not have to repeat any of the color sequence.

Everybody are talking about being group in this Quest.

I know it comes even though you're not "completing" the crystal thing, but it's solo-able - did it myself here today, completing it. Quite easy, just remember where it's shown and do as told!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THE STUPID GAME! Just start it and then interrupt it (I happened to find this out because I didn't kill all the gargs around me and while I was trying to hit the first button, I aggroed one I hadn't killed - while I was fighting it the boss showed up).

I also soloed this as a 70 pandaren monk... killed both the garg I aggroed and the boss. It shouldn't have been this easy - as with other elites in the game, I'm guessing this boss has significantly reduced HP with the Pandaria expansion. I got the head with very little effort and expect that will be the same for you. No group needed.

My main is a level 90 mage, trying to get the "On Blade's Edge" achievement. Only two more quests were required and I was excited to find this one.

Imagine my disappointment when my Nether Tempest (DoT) kills them immediately (as I thought it would). Then I had some inspiration.

I got one of my alts in Stormwind to buy me a level 70 wand. Equipped with a low powered weapon, I could now get them down to low health - but it took 25 swipes. They did not damage me but I wanted a better wand for the followup quest (unfortunately it did not count to my achievement) so this time I used a level 87 wand.

It was too powerful and killed them on swipe three. Determined to get it just right, I got a level 82 wand and it was perfect - only took between 6 and 8 swipes (mostly 8). I don't think a higher wand would be better because on the eighth swipe they were dangerously low health. A level 82 wand seems to be best for a 90 mage/warlock/priest doing this quest.

Ok, I just did this quest on my 90 hunter for the Blade's Edge quest achievement. I farmed the required 35 shards, went to the crystal (the big one in the exact center of the circle) clicked it - it asked for the shards, and then I stood back as the 'game' began, doing absolutely nothing until the Guardian showed up. Killed him, quest completed. At no time did I attempt to play this stupid 'game'. So, there you have it. Have your 35 shards, click crystal, give the shards over, let game begin. Don't have to play to complete. Hope that helps anyone having troubles.

As of 28/07/2016 in the Legion pre-patch, I can confirm you do not need to play the color game to do this quest.

Get the 35 shards required, interact with the monument to begin the game, fail as soon as soon as it starts. You will get zapped and the guardian will spawn after a couple seconds.

Description

You've figured out how to use the single-person relics, but as you may have seen, there are bigger ones, which they surround.

These larger apexis monuments function in much the same way, but they take 35 apexis shards to activate.

Of greater concern to us are the guardians that are summoned through their use. These crystal constructs turned on their arakkoan masters long ago, and now endanger Ogri'la.

We would ask that you destroy one and bring us proof.
