Personally I use a low level alt for most of my AH usage. Make sure you get the Chauffeured Chopper, 35 heirloom achievement, ANY level can use it(Yes, even level 1) and you can not be dismounted, since you are not the driver. If you can get there, I would recommend posting your AH alt at Dalaran (Northrend) .It probably has the least traffic for any area that has an AH. Also make a guild so you have usage of the guild bank, having that much extra storage space is invaluable.
To make a guild for your alt, you should spam in SW/IF looking for guild sigs, you will probably have to pay for those sigs. But having all of the extra inventory slots are invaluable. Once the guild is formed, you can kick everybody till you are down to just your toon(s),
Great tips on what to use all those spare parts on. I feel that cooking can be really hit or miss, but these newer recipes seem like not too much of a hassle to farm mats for.
Transcripts of videos would be nice, especially for advice ones!
Gold making characters for me are usually taking everything I don't personally use on my "main" and sending them to an Engineering character. Most of my characters are at least 110 to 120 so I almost always have an engineer able to be parked right at the Engineer AH.
I play on Stormrage, very low pop, most of my AH scans don't have more than one page, so i got 3 dedicated alts on higher servers for pets.I haven't made any money yet with any off the mech stuff
I consider myself on a lower population server, but I think any population of active players usually still utilizes the auction house. It has been said before here, but I think it's important to learn the niche of the market you are in for success.
Low Population Gold-Makingthis is a blessing, on high pops you cannot sell much of anything with there being dedicated Ah BOTS 24/7 undercutting a segment of the market or ALL of the market lol. could also be someone who does AH 24/7 but thats impossible, need sleep:<
I'm on a low pop server but have an alt on a high pop that i make gold on and pay for any expensive items i need on that server.I sometimes even buy pets on the high pop server and sell them on the low pop so my main has gold for flasks, gems and enchants.
Its hard to imagine not having an dedicated alt for AH and a guild for this sole purpose, its just not possible imo if you are flipping or keeping some goods to sell them on the right time.To those who complain about "dead realm" thing, consider this : high pop realms = more sellers too. so if you try to sell X item in Y realm with low pop, it might go for 120k there but if you try the same X item in a high pop realm, that might go for 20k.
Playing on a rather low pop server, I feel that there isn't much of a market in flipping or just selling greens. However there is always a market for people who farm mats for raids etc. and in some cases the price inflation can be great for bursts of profit every few weeks. Lately though there has been a burst in multi-boxers occasionally tanking the market, usually doesn't take long to recover though.Being on a low pop server has made me monitor the market prices more on the items I sell to take advantage of these inflation periods.
I play horde on a low pop server and alliance on a VERY high pop server. The economies are sooo vastly different, it's insane. If I had to choose one to stay, that would be the high pop. Yes, price marks are usually a lot lower, but anything I post gets sold, and that's what matters to me the most.
I'm not that busy with making gold nowadays, but have mains on a high-pop server, and some alts on low-pop servers. And as others already mentioned I don't feel the prices are that different. But the sell rates are. I mosty try to sell pets nowadays because my crappy crafted gear doesn't bring any profits (and pets can be transferred between realms).
low pop servers tend to have higher sell prices so you can still make a killing on a low pop if you know the market
I have a dedicated bank alt with Engineering and I keep her parked at the Shrine in Pandaria - there is a mailbox, AH & bank vaults without really having to move at all. I use TSM to automatically mail everything from my main to the AH bank at the end of the day. I'm not a hard core AH goblin and will maybe post a few times a week - kind of a "set it and forget it" kinda thing. If items sell, great. If they don't sell after a number of posts, they are sent to other guild bank vaults that friends can go in and plunder for free transmog. As for how many guild vaults I have for storage.. I'm up to 18 with 6 tabs and 10 more with 5 tabs. It's only because I have everything organized, leatherworking in one bank, tailoring in another, mail, plate, leather, cloth armor each has their own vaults, etc.I may have a small hording issue. But my guildies don't seem to mind :)
Good tip for spending my tons of spare parts other than creating rings and trinkets :) thanks.
I use a low-level monk for my AH/Bank alt. It is nice to have the Chauffeur mount and roll available. He also holds the current expansion crafting supplies collected by my main and alts, so it is easy to see what I have available.
I'm on a low pop server. Mat prices are high which is great as a seller. But my money doesn't go very far. Gear, raiding supplies, Pets, xmog, and mounts prices are insanely high... and availability is usually bad. Selling is slow for these items, very slow, but occasionally profitable. It feels like competition is so low that it's easy to corner the market or gouging is frequent. Also some items just aren't available. I am considering moving to a high pop server.
