As a bit of fairly-useless trivia it can be pointed out that "Banehallow" was one of the possible random names assigned to Dreadlord heroes in Warcraft III.

Well, I will say this. No one seems to have found him on my server but me. I solo'd this guy at lvl 56. I am a mage, he is a 59 elite. Have fun.

He moves VERY slowly, although he really doesn't hit that hard... about 250 non crit on a mail wearer.

Solo'd him as a 57 resto shaman, spammed frostshock and threw down an earth bind totem occasionally.

If you have cleared up to him you can continually just kite him throughout the area I managed to kill him with frost shocks by the time I got past the bridge a bit.

To add a little more detail, Banehollow is in Shadow Hold, the cave at the end of Jaedenar. He is about as deep in as one can go. If you did the quest "A Final Blow," where you have to kill the leaders of the Shadow Council, Banehollow is actually deeper inside than them. Behind the three bosses is a large arched platform and in the wall behind that is a door that takes you deeper inside. It's easy to miss; there is usually one mob standing in front of it above the heads of the three bosses. Go back there and follow the road until you come to another red pool with oozes. Don't cross the pool! There is a circular ramp that leads upward nearby and you want to take it. At the top is a circular platform with a few mobs and a bridge leading across to another circular area. Cross over and look for yet another bridge (Yes, this can get confusing). Cross that bridge and you will find him.

One tip I found out the hard way: the Stardust costs 150 gold so be sure you have enough money or you will be coming back.

Also, for the warlocks, you might try turning on "Sense Demons" to help you locate him, but although I had it active I wasn't looking at my radar when I found him almost accidentally. If you don't have any problems finding him, one potion should be enough to get you in and out before it wears off.

After his death he will spawn in ~15 minutes.

I'm so confused my head is actually hurting. How does this guy start quests if he's unfriendly to both horde and alliance? I know the quest is lock only, but...does he not attack locks only? Or is it only after you do other parts of the quest as a lock that he wont' attack you. My brain hurts, someone make the ouchies stop :(

He's no pushover so if anyone thinks he's lolsoloable then think again. Hits hard - your health will drop a lot quicker unless you're nuking extremely hard.

I solo'd him as a level 55 demonology specced Warlock. My felguard died during the battle so I had to ressurect him. He is fearable and quite kiteable, though, and once I realized that (through panicking with death coil) I was set.

Of course he only dropped 27 silver. :(

For aspiring druids, yes you can root him but it only lasts for a second or two.

Solo'd him as a 56 prot warrior only using Last Stand, Shield Block and Diamond Flask.

He has a 650 nuke he used near the end called Shadow Shock that hurts but apart from that is pretty easy. I found him while doing the A Final Blow.

Dropped 24 silver.

Ok a couple of quick hints for this run it does cost a lot but can be done easily. I started with a soulstone active and a healthstone and some healing potion. When you get to Jaedenar before you encounter any enemies drink the potion and ride your mount to the door to enter the underground. You can run all the way to the back, but beware the succubus Rakaih and the blobs in the water that you have to cross over see you as an enemy. After you talk to Lord Banehollow and you go to kill Ulathek be ready to fast like pull up your felguard or voidwalker because you have him and about 3 or 4 more to kill at once. Then you run back turn that in and purchase the Xorothian Stardust and run out before you potion expires. No problem done this as a solo run demon spec warlock lvl 61.

Remember to Put On The Mask its called Taint Of Shadow, you then will be frendly for about 14 minuts, aand you can go and talk to him, you can walk among the others to, but remember not to kill him: the cave you need to go in at is at the lokation 35,57 and its near jaedenar....

For priests who just want to try him, you can use Psychic Scream on him. He's no problem to deal with at or near his level range.

Solo'd him and the whole hold solo (as Tauren Pally) at 49 with ease. It seems they must have nerfed this whole hold, since I last was there on a human pally. I recall doing this instance with much care solo on human pally a year ago during regular questing in Felwood, and died once or twice when I took on the 3 mobs over the little stone bridges, that were guarding the little empty rooms (and was just learning to be a pally, as well). Didn't die though with the bosses then and certainly not this time. This run on Tauren Pally lvl, 49; didn't even need to stop for any consumables whatsoever: never even got close to needing to use H. Light or anything at all. I don't recall my level when I ran it last on human, though it would have been within the Felwood range of 45-50, so this is what makes me think they nerfed this a bit for cata. I do recall I ran this hold perhaps 2-3 times as human pally, as drops were good in past...now, next to nothing, though again, being a 49 now, better drops might be had if you run this as 45-46 or so. Lots of mageweave though.

One nice feature they added is a portal at the end of the hold, in the area just before you take down Lord Banehollow (you can't miss the port as you'll need to kill a mob first there, to get to him), to port you back to Wildheart Point, which is the closest flight path and, I believe, neutral questing area to Shadow Hold.

He is an elite dreadlord, and the leader of Jaedenar, the seat of the Shadow Council on Azeroth. He is guarded by a wide variety of warlocks, demons, and his personal attendant Ur'dan. Any warlock seeking to steal a dreadsteed must deal with Banehollow by first drinking a Shadowy Potion. He assists and directs you in stealing the steed from a rival of his, Lord Hel'nurath of Xoroth.
