A hunter with the appropriate skill (Ancient Tome of Dinomancy) can tame this non-exotic beast. This is the only level 90 version with the red skin; the regular Primal Direhorns are 91, so don't risk getting your butt kicked for nothing.

Keep in mind that these are elites, and are also immune to traps, so plan your taming carefully.

This one has a gorgeous deep red skin, I tamed it specifically to go with my red xmog. Very much worth it.

Tip for Priests looking to farm Giant Dinosaur Bone

These mobs can be rooted with Void Tendrils, and if you move ~30 yards away from them they'll spam their charge at you for the full 20 seconds of the root, instead of attacking the tendril. Makes these guys trivial.

There is no trick to taming these guys, they are un-trapable and will probably drop you about 1/4 of your life during the taming process. Once you have farmed the dinomancers for the book (took me roughly 20 kills, picked up 3 companion pets in the process) then all you need to do is pick your colour and navigate the island. they all sit in groups of their own colour so just keep riding till you find the one you like.

its also good to note that their special attack (frontal shield that reflects all spells) is not activated automatically by the pet like other skills (turtle shield ect) you must activate this.

Just tamed one after about 20 kills on the zandalaris for the tome. Very easy to tame, the only challenge is getting the tome. The ability that comes along can be useful if you use it correctly.

For hunters looking to solo-farm these, make sure that you keep Mend Pet up for the entire fight- these guys hit hard. If you are having trouble keeping your pet topped up on HP, back up until the hatchling starts to cast Trihorn Charge. While they are casting it, run back in and at the end of the cast it will fail. This will give your pet a few seconds to regain health while the hatchling is focused on you, making for a much easier fight.

My kill stats, and drop stats, as of March 14th, 2013:

Days farming: 4
Kills: 249
Bones: 1,999
Eggs: 0

I have reached the 0.4% drop rate for eggs, based on number of kills if one had dropped. As the primal direhorn hatchlings are on wowhead as five different ones, but not described well as to which is which, I'm not entirely sure what the drop rate should be for each color.

I will update stats when I receive an egg. I upload all of my info to wowhead so I'm sure my crummy stats are reflected now in the low drop rate.

Can easily be solo'd by a hunter.

Best way I've found is to have a tenacity pet on passive and pull at range with your serpent sting, hit it a couple times with arcane shot then with a powershot (if you took that talent) as it gets near. That gives you a couple more seconds of hitting it with at range for some extra damage. when it gets close again have your pet take over.

Then it's just a matter of having your tenacity pet gnaw on its face and hold aggro. You want it to be up close so it has no reason to charge you and send you flying.

Hit mend pet every time you have kill command come off cooldown and you should have no problem.

Note: if your pet does get overwhelmed and killed disengage with the narrow escape talent will trap direhorn hatchlings and young primal devilsaurs.

Named mine direhorn Slag and my devilsaur Grimlock.
Too bad we can't tame Pterrorwings (Swoop) or another tipes of dinosaurs other than than triceratops, tyrannosaurus or raptors :(
If we could so, i would have made a Dinobot team XD

I've started farming the bones from about 22:30 till 2:30 which made me complete my goal of getting 10998 bones, enough for both the mount and pet.

This has been done on my L100 warrior.
