The sword will be looted by players .. in 3 years after WOTLK had been released on RETAIL you will see that only 5 or even 10 players ONLY got frostmourne ..Tooltips are just for fun ..

And what were you talking about that you order it .. it wasnt in game you will order so they send you a MODLE of frostmourne .. not ingame , but in the REAL life.

Frostmourne's Charactiristics are : To stealth souls from its oppointments and what it hits or takes out flesh ..

It is crafted by the legion not ner'zhul, And i strongly recommend that Kil'Jaeden made it.

And it will be super cool also if when you go fight Lich king , at 30% Illidan Stormrage come and join the encounter too.. Like what maiev shadowsong makes when you go fight illidan ..

Hypothetically speaking, if Frostmourne were to drop, one can assume that without a host, Ner'zhul's spirit will be vulnerable.

There are three ways it can go from there.

A) Kil'jaeden will destroy his weak soul, immediately flattening all scourge.

B) WE will destroy his weak soul, immediately flattening all scourge.

C) Whoever loots Frostmourne will get something similar to the Ashbringer, where the scourge will become friendly, and Knights of the Ebon Blade, Argent Crusade, etc. Will all become hated. That's a very slim chance.

Odds are, if you loot Frostmourne, Ner'zhul's dead. And he's the one who controlled Arthas, and he did such THROUGH the blade, the blade did not directly control him. It was a vassal for Ner'zhul. So no, you would not get 13m hp and control hordes of undead.

Frostmourne is empowered by Ner'zhul, as he dies when you loot it, you wont be corrupted, you wont control legions of undead armies, you won't be hated by any factions and Frostmourne won't be as powerful as it was when Arthas had it.

Well... Kil'jaeden is dead so that rules out A) and in each version of Frostmourne leaked so far they've all said "Hail to the new Lich King", or somthing alog those lines so I think senario C) is most likely

Do you think it will be like DK only like the warglaives of azzinoth to stop people from wanting it so bad and maybe rolling a mass of DKs (unlike we need more) but that would suck but hey the warglaives were warrior rogue only.

I think you guys forming theories about what would happen if Frostmourne dropped have got it all wrong.
First of all, Frostmourne isn't the container of Ner'Zhul nor The Lich King's soul. Frostmourne was what the original lich king ( Ner'Zhul's spirit when he was encased in the armor) used to control and manipulate Arthas and eventually turn him into a Death Knight. and is now the runeblade the current lich king uses in battle as a transmiter for his power and to devour souls.

Second, Arthas and Ner'Zhul are no longer separate entities, but have merged into a single being following the end of Warcraft III. As stated by the words "Now... we are one!" said by the echoing voice of Ner'Zhul in Arthas' head when he put the helm of the lich king in the end of Warcraft III.
Chris Metzen also stated that:
"Arthas and Ner'zhul have become a perfect fusion of one being - Arthas' personality and body with Ner'zhul's wisdom, experience, power and EVIL."

So, that rules out any chances of Ner'Zhul's soul becoming vulnerable after defeating the Lich King and looting Frostmourne.

My guesses are:
1) After the Lich King is defeated, he will die (and stay dead), and the leadership of the Scourge shall crumble, we will see a script in-game with some of the major characters involved with the story and something about how the battle against him is over and frostmourne shall be lootable
2) The original lich king's grasp on Arthas' soul will be destroyed and Arthas shall be redeemed with help from that ghost who's name is an anagram of Arthas' name and then frostmourne will be destroyed by Tirion Fordring with the Ashbringer (unlikely version)
3) Near the end of the fight, Tiron will show up and shatter Frostmourne with the Ashbringer and use it's power to make the lich king vulnerable so we can finish him, and then possibly an in-game script involving the story.

These are my guesses of what will happen if the Lich King is defeated.

Without the Frostmourne in Arthas' possession he would of been just a paladin driven by revenge and would not of done the events the Ner'zhul had made him do, such as killing his father and leading Lordaeron to ruin. The Lich King was the Architect, the Frostmourne was his tool, and Arthas was nothing more than a victim driven to find any means to save his people and eventually gave in to the dark whisperings of the Frostmourne and became a lackey just like any other Necromancer or Ghoul. As soon as Arthas took up Frostmourne he was doomed to the path he went on, the very touch on the handle sent whispers through him from Ner'zhul already working down his nerves to use him as his first Deathknight.

As for the power of the sword, you all know its power derives from the Lich King himself, so it obviously will scale with other Tier 9 Icecrown Glacier gear since if the Lich King (Ner'zhul's spirit) is dead and you are able to loot Frostmourne, with the power source cut off its powers would have weakened to that of a normal mortal's use.

And to the reply above mine,

All the death of the Lich King will do is cause the scourge to turn into a disorganized undead army, without a leader they'll still kill those that oppose them, remember some agents of the scourge are more loyal than others. That being said that also means there will be defections in the expansion after WotLK or maybe in a new content patch like Sunwell Plateau. I believe the Arthas being redeemed path is the best guess, remove the spirit consuming his and using his body and bending him to its will, and you get someone that realizes what they've been doing, but I doubt the destruction of Frostmourne will happen, a legendary weapon such as that can't just be destroyed.. And besides WotLK needs that legendary endgame weapon (Burning Crusade had the Warglaives) since the Ashbringer is unattainable.

Uhhh, no, that doesn't sound very likely to me.

If you pay any attention to the dialogue in http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=13369, and the fact itself that Sylvanas is in Orgrimmar and not up rebeling against the Horde with Varimathras, you'll see that her allegiance and loyalty to the Horde is completely and entirely genuine, and if it wasn't, then sure as hell it is when Thrall and all the Hordies help her take back the Undercity from Varimathras and his cronies.

well IF that should happen. Then it should be an cinematic RAID instance which means that even when you kill Lich King the raid Icecrown Glacier isn't done yet. You need to finish it as a cinematic raid where you as you said must help the leaders of horde and the alliance.

In the Warcraft universe:
The titel Death Knights came during the Second War between the Humans and Orcs.

Doomhammer, warchief of the Horde, had slain large portions of the Shadow Council, the former ruling council of the Horde which was consisted entirely of Warlocks, it's leader being Gul'dan after taking control over the Horde by defeating the former Warchief Blackhand.

Gul'dan, at the mercy of the new warchief, offered to create a new force for the Horde and reluctantly, Doomhammer allowed him to do so, sparing his life.

Gul'dan, along with his ogre-mage servant Cho'gall slaughter some of his other, minor Warlocks and turned their hearts into small red gems which he placed in several truncheons.
Having some of the corpses of human liutenants, generals and such, he gave each corpse a truncheon, and before the Doomhammer he caused the spirits of the slain warlocks of the Shadow Council to infest the corpses, reanimating them.
And thus, the Death Knights were "born".
Their leader was Teron Gorefiend and he and his companions were essentially a replacement for the Warlocks, wielding dark forces without the use of demonic power.

They were not what Death Knights are today, they favoured ranged spellcasting rather than melee combat, making them more Lich-like than the traditional Death Knights as seen in other fantasy universes.

As if Arthas were the first of the new breed of Death Knights created by Ner'zhul as the Lich King is not entirely clear, however it is assumed that he was, to the least, he was the most powerful and he was the one who wielded Frostmourne and eventually merged with Ner'zhul, forming a perfect fusion that Ner'zhul had wanted so long ago.

Sidenote: Paladins, Tiron Fordring, Turalyon and Uther among them, were created during the Second War and they proved to be both excellent combatants, healers and the obvious counter against Death Knights.

Um, well, anyone ever think about respawn? Everything else everyone on every realm in WoW kills doesn't make a difference in the game cause whoever you killed will just respawn. You can kill all the Mangy Wolves in Elwynn, and then 2 minutes later they'll all come back again, having no effect what-so-ever. That could possibly be what happens if the Lich King actually gets "defeated". He will die, and then his body will disappear, and then respawn, having,as I said before, no effect on the game at all.
Isn't that more than a little possible?

for all of you to know:arthus is a human that is controlled by overwhelmed power as his thought to control lands (as in warcraft) he had to kill his friend to wield the sword and with it he is now the lich king which means he is a traitor to both horde and alliance so there it is he is not an orc or anything like that he is a human according to warcraft and is friendly to the plague but also is a ruler of many lands.

Ok...I'm going to point out what's crap and what's truth.

First: ARTHAS. Not ARTHUS, like king Arthur, but ARTHAS.

Two: "Rules many lands"? Everything the Scourge has a presence in is entirely mixed, and not ruled by anyone. The only place that the Scourge really actually owns is Icecrown, since there's only two or three non-Scourge or vrykul bases there.

Three: His body is human, yes. HOWEVER, his mind is both orc and human; a mix of both Ner'zhul and Arthas (thus the, "We...are...ONE!" in the WC3 TFT undead ending cinematic).

Four: "Friendly to the Plague"? You can't be friendly to a damn virus. You either catch it, cure it, and live, catch it, slowly die of it, and then die, not catch it at all, or catch it and just overpower it with your #$%^ing godliness (which is very likely to be what would happen with the Lich King). I'm sure the Plague would infect the Lich King if he came into contact with it (not like it would actually do anything though).

Five: "he had to kill his friend to wield the sword"? There are a few things wrong with that. ONE: NO, he didn't HAVE to kill his friend, one of the spikes just happened to hit Muradin when he released the sword. TWO: Muradin is ALIVE, therefore, he never killed his friend in the FIRST DAMN PLACE.

Six: "Arthas is a human that is controlled by overwhelmed power"? First of all, if my experiences with bad grammar were all but many, I could honestly not tell what you're saying. AT ALL. Second: You should be using past-tense there. Arthas WAS a human that WAS controlled by overwhelmING power. Arthas doesn't exist anymore, and neither does Ner'zhul: there is only the Lich King now.

Seven: NO, NO, AND NO! He is NOT Lich King because of Frostmourne. He is the Lich King because he took Ner'zhul's helm and they MERGED.

There's one problem there, though. According to the new Arthas novel, Arthas is more or less the Lich King now. Before, we all thought it was all "only the Lich King", but the book horribly (imho, anyways) turns that around, making Arthas stab Matthias Lehner (the last strains of humanity left in him) and Ner'zhul in a dream, taking the power of the Lich King for himself.

Tbh, you can't really "free" Arthas' soul. He had his chance to turn back, when he was talking with Matthias Lehner. He could of spared him, and only stabbed Ner'zhul. He could've become good again. But he didn't. He willingly decided to be a greedy pain in the ass demigod, bent on turning Azeroth into a giant ball of ice with little dead things crawling around on it.

We're either going to defeat him, he's going to be like, "Aaaargh, damn you all, I'll be back!" and poof off, or we kill him, and he'll be like "Aaaaargh, damn you all, I'll be back!" except this time, he falls to the floor as a lifeless corpse.

And, even when Arthas was only Arthas, it still says that Arthas only served the Lich King because of the protection. If the Lich King was dead, Arthas was dead, and Arthas didn't want that.

It should be noted that the reason why he is not sitting on his Frozen Throne anymore is because he has started noticing the effects of global warming.

- This guy is pretty wrong. I wonder why his comment is even so hardly rated. Because that 'Ice Stone has melted!' thing was just a bug by Blizzard. I read that from the forums, and it was a blue post.

- Ice Stone is a thing that was supposed to come at Midsummer Fire Festival -event. But Blizzard did something weird and the chat started to spam the message almost every minute. Blizzard didn't notice it immediatly so it took a while for them to fix it.

well if anyone paid attention to the clips in warcrat3 when arthas took frostmourn,they'd know that arthas was the first soul frostmourn claimed.And that the sword was only a fraction of the lich's power,as for illadan's attempt to try and melt the north the frozen thrown where the lich's armor was (incased in ice) was loosing his power.the lich didnt have complete controll over arthas,but was still a puppet.

the true form of nez or the lich king (what ever you wanna call the guy) was incased in the ice and demanded that arthas get to the thrown b4 it was too late. Frostmourn was power that arthas seeked as revenge and got what he wanted but it cost him his soul.then when he and illadan fought at the frozen thrown arthas in the end won.And in the end it was really the lich king who won as it was arthas who took the armor from the ice and gave his body the the lich king making the 2 become a complete entity. Marking the comment at the end "now we are one" says a lot on its own.

and as for the sword there (in my mind) is only one person who can destroy frostmourn, the creater. ohh i forget his name, but according to warcraft 3 he created the lich king. the lich know his time was almost up and needed a host.Frostmourn lored arthas to it knowing the revenge arthas wanted and this sword was his answer... and in his own words "i will have my revenge,no matter the cost". so i think if frostmourn was dropped it would have an effect but not a major as for the sword would fly back to his hand.

but when it comes to the final blow uther should somehow appear and say a few lines to him and say something like "its time to come home arthas,your people are waitng" or something as like a hundred pallies use the powers to hold him down so uther can help (who ever the team) kill him. as for looting frostmourn i say no cuz it would be an unfair item in the game. not saying it wouldnt be nice to have, but you have to think about it not everyone will get it. its not like ever team that goes in will be secussful in killing arthas.and alot of other reasons why its not far.

It's unlikely, but wouldn't it be cool if Slyvanas took control of the rest of the Scourge? The Forsaken only joined the Horde because it would help their goals and protect them. They didn't have any allies and needed someone to help them survive after Warcraft 3. If that happened something would have to happen to the Forsaken players so I doubt Blizzard would ever do it, but it's an interesting thought considering Slyvanas only joined the Horde to help kill the Lich King and ensure her freedom from the Scourge. She has no particular love for the living, or anyone in general.

Sylvanas and the forsaken will never betray the horde because there are so many undead players...what will happen to them revive and morph humans?I don't think so!

BTW so much lore characters revived because of a big number of fans..I bet Illidan will revive to help malfurion and the others with the emerald dream...just pure speculation

Well, this is just an idea I had... I'm absolutely beyond positive that this Will Not happen, but I just thought it would be kind of cool:

Well, I remember when the War effort was going on for the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj (I, on the other hand, contributed nothing because i was level 34 at the time and was never level capped until 80 /cry) and just how there was the "Scarab Lord" title for the person who completed the quest and rang the Gong first.

But, what I was thinking was another server wide event for last front on the war against the Lich King and the Undead Scourge. And, what I propose may seem a tad... rash might not be the best word, but it works. What if the Lich King was a One time server kill, reserved for the most Hardcore of the Hardcore. Slightly like Algalon, the mother of all hard modes. Make it Ten or Twenty-Five man, I don't care, but I think the Lich King should only be kill able by the people who are truly dedicated and truly know how to play their classes and make the class perform at its finest. So, I guess it would be that the Lich King would not drop Tier pieces or tokens, but it other shiny items for you to brag about.

But, this would pose the problem of this: Your the greatest healer, Damage Dealer, or Tank the world has ever known and all that, your guild kills the Lich King, but nothing for you drops. But, I guess a solution would be something along the lines of getting a quest and then turning it in and getting an unbelievably powerful reward. I also think it should be designed where once you defeat him, you cannot transfer servers and beat him again.

But, that is just my idea... feel free to comment, hope you enjoyed it... wonder how long until I get down rated? Only time will tell..

I wonder if the frostmourne drops it will look something similar to that sword Kel'thuzad drops. I also hope he drops his armor, like his helm,shoulderplates,etc. I bet in the new raid (if it ever comes out) the horde and alliance will take their armys and you and your group will lead the war against the scourge. And In the end the leader of each army will say something like " Arthas!, your empire awaits you in hell!". Just idea's but im hoping the new raid will be epic.

Just wanted to throw this out there. Me and buddy were considering possibilities of if Frostmourne were looted. What we thought would be real nice is if it wuz lootable player - player. (example: Alliance picks it up. Horde kills the Alliance player and loots it. Goes back and forth.) As far as some idiot looting it and never playing the character just for the satisfaction of having it. Give it a duration timer in a sense. Maybe 1 week duration. After that its dropped in the Middle of the enemy city (Stormwind or Orgrimar). For someone of the opposing faction to loot. It's a sketchy idea but I think with the all the people at Blizzard they could make it work.

most likely if Frostmourne were to drop from arthas it would probably be DK only i mean i dont wanna see a freakin paladin with the most evil badass sword in game wearing it...lore wise its more viable for a death knight cause their already pretty evil and they dont got soulzzzzz fershizzle..

plus paladins will get ashbringer eventually mostlikely and who knows ashbringer might not be class restricted so all 2h users could just use ashbringer ( should be paladin restrricted though:P)
blizzard is trying though to make more legendary weapons class restricted as of lately.

In the hypothetical trailer for Warcraft 4. Arthas is dead with frostmourne in his back, the scourge is still there, and Dreadlords are trying to open a portal to sargeras. so to speak frostmourne is not lootable, Dreadlords remain and the naga side with them. I think the lich king will be overwhelmed by important NPCs and faction leaders. I think once you get him down to 1 health a dialogue comes in and Arthas is killed by them. However i do think at least part of his arsenal will drop, maybe an armor piece. And i think you have to beat the Argent Tournament to get to the raid. So better get cracking at it now (also its got nice gear)

Frostmourne isn't going to drop. They announced in Blizzcon "Sorry, no Frostmourne. But they started to joke around about an axe that resembled it that was "hunter only".

That axe is called Shadowmourne. It can be found at: http://www.wowwiki.com/Shadowmourne. It is a 2hd axe that can be used by anyone trained in using 2hd axe's, but the stats on Shadowmourne would benefit only DK's, Arms/Fury Warriors, and Ret Pallies.

IC wont be out till after Cataclysm and he WONT drop Frostmourne..they might change it but prob not..he instead drops the Shadowmounre a hunter and dk weapon (thats what the patch notes said idk if they mean a hunter and dk weapon because of a good amount of agil it will have or if it will have class restricitions)

I doubt 3.3 will be the last patch for WOTLK.In my opinion the battle with the Lich king will continue to rage on in the next expansion.I personally think this will happen:
During the encounter probably at low health percent Mal'Ganis the Dreadlord will show up with agents of the Legion and start battling both the raid and the Lich King during the chaos the Lich King will flee to underground Northrend as in 3.2 he said the nerubians build an entire empire.The dreadlord will follow him and u will be left to handle the legion's agents a probably a chest with epic loots will be left.But i doubt it 3.3 will be the last one in WOTLK.

Yup. Sorry. The Lich King is going to die. Blizzard didn't have any problem killing Kael'thas, Illidan, Kael'thas, Lady Vashj, or even Kael'thas and it won't be any different for our old friend Arthas.

It doesn't mean that the Frozen Throne will stay empty, Arthas will be replaced and a new character will take his place ... and this will be Bolvar Fordragon! He is doing this because without a leader, the Scourge would run rampant on the world, killing all living things. So pretty much he is sacrificing himself to stop the destruction of the world.
