Playful Vulpin is a part of Treasures of Ardenweald achievement.
To get it you have to find Playful Vulpin in Ardenweald,
it will make an action on which you'll have to reply with emote in chat.
After each successful interaction it will despawn and you'll have to find him again
until you make him your pet (Dodger) - 5 times in total.
To find Playful Vulpin you have to search around the critters of the same type,
it spawns near Vulpins in the Ardenweald: Timber Kit, Verdant Kit,
Child of Mischief, Grove Kit, Glimmerfur Kit, Ridge Kit...
To make it easier make a macros:

Looks like it spawns more in the upper part of the zone so check there first.

Playful Vulpin is a "treasure" located in Bastion.

Location: Multiple
Rare Item : Dodger
Criteria of: Treasures of Ardenweald

General:

Progress you do with the mob doesnt reset if you get disconnect.
Progress you do with the mob doesnt reset if you exit the game manually.
Progress you do with the mob will be kept for a while - at least for few days but might be for longer (even forever).

Needs some one to confirm if the mob you see can be seen by another player as well and if yes does the mob act the same for both players or different depending on player's progress with it.

This is a very tricky one to obtain. You shoul find Playful Vulpin five times in Ardenweald and react to its emotions.
The trouble is it has no fixed respawn spot and respawns at random spot near different vulpins.
When you found it - check which action it does and reply by typing into chat correct one.
After that it will despawn and you have to check respawn spots again until you found it five times in total.
It seems it makes his actions in fixed order, so it has to be in the following:

Playful Vulpin wanders around unable to sit still - type /sit
Playful Vulpin sings all alone - type /sing

A couple call-outs not mentioned yet here:

It is possible for multiple people to see the Playful Vulpin at the same time, as long as you are on the same step.

It is only possible for one person to interact with it at a time. The Vulpin will only give credit to the first person who emotes to it, then it will despawn. If another person emotes before the despawn completes, they will receive the response message from the Vulpin, but will not get credit.

You need to wait for about 5-10 seconds after the playful vulpin's emote text appears on the screen before you emote back. Basically wait till the vulpin's emote animation ends and then emote back.

I tried dozens of times emoting without anything happening because I kept trying as soon as I saw the text on the screen.

As soon as you successfully emote at him he can be found at 1 of the other locations. I did all 5 in about 15 minutes.

Make sure to use the macro again once you interacted with him. He just respawned a few yards away from where he despawned. It was lucky RNG, but it would be a shame to run around all the zone to come back to only a few yards from his last spawn. Good luck!

Very cute and do-able in 15-20 minutes. I didn't use macro, I just had all targetable creatures health bars turned on and very easily picked out the friendly (green) tag. All other Vulpine and Kits are either neutral (yellow) or hostile (red). It is difficult to spot otherwise.

It would be wise to stay near the area for a minute if the vulpine just de-spawned since it can spawn in the same spot/area after a few seconds. I ran around a bit before I realized he had spawned where I had previously found him.

This might be downvoted but I'm going to post it ANYWAY...

I just spent the last hour going to every...single...location on the map and couldn't find him. So there's a chance he could shift his location every so often so maybe when I was looking for him up top - he popped down below somewhere. So you might have to check multiple locations over and over to finally find him.

I'm not in the mood to test this theory and run all the way back down to the bottom hitting every spot again.
So if you can't find him - that might be why.....

FYI...
But don't cry and don't die because he might pop up when you least expect it and poke you in the eye...

He is quite playful after all...

If the Playful Vulpin is not reacting to your emote, try standing in front of it so it can see you. I tried dancing repeatedly, including waiting 5-10 seconds after the Vulpin's emote. It did not "take" until I moved to stand where the Vulpin was facing.

After I found it in its initial location, it took me about 20 minutes to run across the zone, find it the necessary number of times, and complete the "tame".

Targeting macro for this achievement. It clears any existing targets and tries to find a live Playful Vulpin. If successful, it places a raid marker on the target, plays a sound, and displays a message in your chat window. This makes it fairly hard to miss a positive match.

Treasures of Ardenweald --> Playful Vulpin Befriended

Playful Vulpin Befriended is part of the achievement Treasures of Ardenweald. To be able to complete this, a Playful Vulpin must be found in the Ardenweald. You have to perform 5 different interactions with him. The problem is, he disappears after each emotion and you have to search for him again.

It's best to make a macro, that makes the search easier:
/cleartarget
/tar Playful Vulpin
Here are the actions that need to be performed: for example, if the chat says Playful Vulpin begins to dig curiously, then type into the chat /curious or use the related emote.
1. - begins to dig curiously = /curious
2. - wanders around unable to sit still = /sit
3. - sings all alone = /sing
4. - dances with joy = /dance
5. - sits down lonely and sad = /pet
One other little note:
- keep Playful Vulpin in focus when doing the emote.
- It is best to dismount from the mount. But for me it also worked when I was sitting on the mount.

After the last action the playful Vulpin jumps into your arms and you get the Dodger = Dodger.

You don't need to hurry between the steps. Once you get the credit for one of the emotes, you can continue later: I found him two times before I went to raid and I continued the pursuit on the next morning without a problem.

It seems the Playful Vulpin tends to spawn counter clockwise from the first spawn area you encounter him to the next spawn area. I got Dodger with two characters and it worked like that the both times.

For example if you find him in the Furrowed Glen with Timber Kits the next spot would be somewhere in the area south of Dreamsong Fenn with Glimmerfur Kits and the next somewhere south of Star Lake Amphitheater with Verdant Kits and so on.

Furthermore, the Playful Vulpin has green status text and is very easy to spot if you have the critter name checked in the interface options.

Contrary to every comment on here, in response to "Playful Vulpin begins to dig curiously", I had to use /dig, not /curious. (I tried /curious half a dozen times, targeting him, not targeting him, standing on top of him, standing away from him, etc., and eventually decided to give /dig a try -- worked first time.)

I just received Dodger, I never, ever saw him in the area above Tirna Vaal, only in the 4 other spots; the 1st spot was in that area above Dreamsong Fenn, , 2nd area was in that area below Refugee FP, 3rd area, between the 2 rivers below Dreamsong Fenn, 4th area in that other area between the 2nd and 3rd areas, the 5th and last one was in that area between the 2 rivers below Dreamsong Fenn; it is very important to have a macro, I did not need a macro for the first 3, but the other 2 were harder to find, but I did find him :) Good luck everyone :)

i'll add my 2 cents....i found him at north of Dreamsong Fenn. Once inside the cave and again a bit east of that cave. And I found him next to Lord Renard 2 times as well. Once right next to him and again a little to the left of him. (next to the Heart of the Forest FP). The other time was north of Tirna Vaal. Close to the 67. 29 coords. Up a hill and near a waterfall. Couldn't have done it w/o the macro. Highly recommend it. GL all.

Can confirm the 65,22 location way north of Tirna Vaal, my third Vulpin was there.Got lucky with 4th and 5th as both spawned between Root-Home and Heart of the Forest (41,49) and (41,51) and I was able to use macro while using the flight path between them to target them at that location.

It might be worth noting that simply targeting him doesn't always cause him to interact with you. To trigger him to interact/do his emote, just click on him. I tried walking on him a few times to get him to notice me but I actually had to click on him to get him to interact with me. He made a little sound, just like clicking on other pets and critters and then did his emote.

Also, the den with all the red foxes. I found him once directly in front of it and once to the left/behind it, all on his own. Cords for that are 50.24 55.66

A macro will do wonders! Especially when the weather is dark.

Has anyone not received credit after getting all 5? I completed it today, got the emote "Playful Vulpin jumps into your arms" and then nothing... no pet, no achievement (it's my last treasure for Ardenweald). I sent a ticket, but do I really need to keep looking for a 6th? Do they even spawn and emote after the first 5?

People using the addon SilverDragon may know this, but you can add this NPC to the list of alerts:

Use the command /silverdragon
Go to Mobs>Custom
In the Add field, write 171206 and press Enter

And you're done! An alert is gonna sound once you're near.
Just to be clear, this is a FRIENDLY NPC, so I recommend having the Friendly Nameplates Turned On, switched by default with Ctrl+Shift+V.
There may be similar methods for other rare scanning addons, but that's the one I know.

Hi -

Had a problem when I had my hunter pet out where the targeted mob did not respond to the command given ( /pet, /dance).

Once the pet under my command was dismissed the interaction proceeded as expected.

If you're using a list of locations provided in this post chain, I highly recommend sorting them by distance between the next spawn point. Some of the lists will have you traverse from one end of the map and back again between a few spawn points. The spawns are clustered in a few areas. Organize your list before starting.

Having completed this yesterday, I would commend the posts made by Varenne, Jorge2580, I added the npc number to npcscan, worked very well, also thanks to Serenets for the same information, and lastly for the macro from Toggol. Use all the above, and you should have very little trouble with this, as you either quest level or do your worldquests. Have fun and good luck in getting Dodger.

I got really stuck on this for like an hour, getting really frustrated. Then I realised there's two types of vulpin up north of Tirna Vaal - Ridge Vulpin and Foothills Vulpin. So there's actually two spawn locations here. Be sure to check this location very thoroughly if you're having trouble, because it has lots of nooks and crannies. I think I almost cried with relief with I found him!

Some notes:

Multiple people on the same step see the same Playful Vulpin. I guess there are 5 NPCs, and the one you see depends on which step you are on.
If you are doing this with a friend, the person spamming the target macro should click second (to avoid being one step ahead). Alternatively, both players can spam the target macro or track the NPC ID. (It is, unfortunately, less efficient to do it with friends.)
On two of the stages, after someone else clicked it I found that it respawned in the same spot a few hours later. This was possibly just a fluke, since another time it respawned somewhere else instead.

On the first successful interaction, it emotes and despawns. The response emote says "you" even if it was someone else who interacted. Only one person can get credit.
I think it's tracked via quest IDs. I got 61078 and 61086 for step 5 (I failed to catch the others).

You don't need to dismount for this. Targeting and doing the emote is enough.
I have done all 5 while mounted and still got the pet.

You'll know for sure it worked, when the Playful Vulpin disappears after a few seconds.

Thanks for all the help to find this pet. Got mine today. Three times I found it just north of Tirna Vaal, I just kept doing a circle of the spawn points. Was annoying to find it in the same spot I had not long left. Last one I found just south of Star Lake Amphitheatre. I used the macro that was posted and it worked a treat. The Silver Dragon one didn't work for me for some reason though.

Take care not to have Will of Remornia pet out while doing this, as it will randomly vivisect nearby critters, which can include the poor little vulpin you need to befriend. Speaking from experience. :(

I found the playful vulpin today. Very excited, I targeted him, dismounted, and typed /curious after it said he was digging curiously. then I just kept getting the same prompt: 'he is digging curiously,' and I would type /curious again. This happened about half a dozen times and then it said 'he startles' and he disappeared. The interactions never progressed beyond /curious. Has anyone had this happen before? Does it mean I did something wrong?

I managed to find it all five times, and it took a little less than 20 minutes. I just used Pinch of Faerie Dust, which drops from humanoids, around 52.58.
Only the drop chance is much lower if the cocoon local quest is active. The problem is that although this item stacks, the countdown of disappearance from inventory starts from the first stack (15min). But for 1.5 minutes x1 item, you are given the opportunity to fly.
You can also use Covenant Mushroom Rings, if you are a Night Fae.

I just found mine in no particular order, definitly not neither clockwise nor anticlockwise. All were in different locations, and the emotes came in the same order as listed above. If ur bags are full u will get him in the mail instead. It can be caged and sold, but I dont know yet if u can get him more times.

I struggled with this achievement because I could never find the playful vulpin up. I honestly thought the achievement was bugged. However I have now came to the conclusion that I couldn't find it as other people were also on the hunt - which makes this achievement one of the hardest to do if a lot of players are doing it at the same time.

Just keep trying and you will find him eventually.

As I did this with my bf, today, 30.7 first we both saw the playful vulpin, we both did the emote on it and carried on to find him on other spot, however only I saw it on the spot (was spamming target macro) and my bf didnt. Long story short, first I found the vulpin 5 times, did the emotes and only I saw it and when I was done my bf had to find it again and start all over again. People have already posted the cordinates here on spawn points but I suggest using the target macro since few times it was little off the spot from the point but macro picked it up. Happy hunting!

I found the first 2 up in the northeastern section of the map and flew around spamming the macro for almost 30 mins without any luck finding another onel I circled the entire map 4 or 5 times and no luck finding another one up at this time. I'll keep trying another day and see if it keeps my progress with handynotes addon. I'll let you all know when I find it.

Is any macro or way to check how many you completed? I do a couple ones maybe 3 or 4 but I don't remember wich ones..

Just a note: Do not try to camp a known spawn point, he won't show up.

I was working on a project, and I logged in and sat at a known spawn point while working. THREE different people landed beside me and did emotes, two of which got the achievement. I never saw their playful vulpins.

It's all about flying around and checking his spawn points. My final spawn point was in a tree root, and I almost flew right past him.

Thank you all for the wonderful macros. I tried them all. Several worked but then I would have problems with some aspect of it. Mostly the sound file not playing correctly or just writing it in chat. I finally got the following to work for me correctly. Now I just need to do the step by step walk through with the NPC. He is a pain to please.

Didn't believe the other comments saying this is just 15 minutes, but it really does take less than 15 minutes. I had the Ardenweald Training our Forces calling going alongside it with Twinklewings so I'd set 5 minute timers and made sure to kill a mob every 5 minutes for a chance at Lucy's Collar, was a good thing to knock out at the same time.

Since I couldn't format my comment properly in a response to someone else, just wanted to add it as its own. Using the macro mentioned by Zarilla and a few others, I was able to complete this and receive Dodger this morning. I did add the item ID (171206) to NPC Scanner, but flying around with the macro alerted me to his presence before NPC Scanner did in each case.

He was always found near other sleeping vulpin (critter/neutral). I found him in this order:

The Stalks/Gossamer Cliffs
Renard's Den
Starlit Overlook by the Winter Wolf
Dusty Burrows
Renard's Den (again)

The first time, I received the message that I'd startled him. For the rest, he'd just disappear. Sometimes I'd have to do a second emote, sometimes I didn't. I encountered these emotes:

Playful Vulpin begins to dig curiously: /curious
Playful Vulpin sings all alone.: /sing
Playful Vulpin dances with joy /dance
Playful Vulpin sits down lonely and sad: /pet

Finally! I was trying to get this little bugger for the meta-achievement, but could not neem to find him... I ended up making two macros to help me out... One was a location finder for my Tom Tom addon:

/way 51 54 (Spot 1)
/way 41 50 (Spot 2)
/way 32 43 (Spot 3)
/way 42 27 (Spot 4)
/way 69 30 (Spot 5)

This just sets up the five locations that he spawns, if you have TomTom (or similar addon). Just copy what I have typed there, make a new macro and put the button on your bar somewhere that you can get to it. Once you finish with this achievement, you can delete the macro, but while you are searching for the little dude, you may need to revisit places that you have already found him previously. I personally found him in the same spot twice, so make sure you can find your way back to that spot again.

Next, I copied the macro that Zarilla had posted previously, this worked like a charm! I will paste it below, but don't give me any credit for the making of this macro, I simply borrowed it from Zarilla:

/tar Playful Vulpin
/cleartarget
/stopmacro
/run local g=GetRaidTargetIndex("target"); if g ~=4 then SetRaidTargetIcon("target", 4) end;

This will target the Vulpin, put a raid marker over it, and play a sound, just in case you didn't see that you had targeted the little guy. It literally took me longer to type this than it did to find him 5 times and put him in my pet roster.

For anyone trying to get this in 2022, there are 16 possible spwan locations not just five.
I thoroughly recommend installing the 'HandyNotes:Shadowlands' add on (which you can download easily with the Curse Forge app). With 'HandyNotes' installed if you bring up your map and left click the treasure chest icon for Playful Vulpin, all the possible spawn locations will be marked on your map as blue circles.

Once you have the locations it's simply a matter of flying around each one and checking for the Playful Vulpin.
As others have reccomended, I used Zarilla's macro to traget him;

/tar Playful Vulpin
/cleartarget
/stopmacro
/run local g=GetRaidTargetIndex("target"); if g ~=4 then SetRaidTargetIcon("target", 4) end;
/script PlaySound(130502)

An otherwise difficult task made super simple and easy. Massive credit to Zarilla for this, thank you.

For anyone new to creating macros, don't worry it's very straightforward.
- Type /macro into the chat window
- Click 'create new'
- Add a title (anything will do, I called mine Vulpin Target)
- Select an icon (Again anything you like)
- Paste the above script into 'Enter Macro Command' box
- Hit Save
- Drag the icon onto your player bar
And you are done, clicking your newly created macro will target the Vulpin if he's nearby, it will also place an arrow above his head and a give a voice alert.

Randomly runs off or disappears even though you're doing the right emote responses. I guess this is supposed to be fun? It's not. I just gave up. I got better things to do with my time, like literally anything else.

First, a macro to put the most relevant TomTom waypoints on the map for possible locations of the Playful Vulpin.

I can confirm that World Quest phasing near the spawn points DOES NOT hide the playful vulpin from you. I spotted him from outside the area for "Wrath of Aliothe", and moving to him phased me into the world quest, but even as the other Vulpin right next to him phased, the playful vulpin stayed.

Im not sure if Im doing this right. I found itw twice digging. It made its dig curiously emote. I entered /curious. Nothing happened. I came back days later. Found it at the same spot doing the same emote. I did it again, nothing happened.
