About halfway through the 7.2.5 Deadmines pet battle dungeon your path will be blocked by this menacing pirate.
He is a rather strong humanoid enemy, but nothing the classical doombird setup can't dispatch:

I didn't think to check this page, but did after a few failed attempts. I finally beat him with a pack of DoTs from Tiny Apparition, Twilight Fiendling, and Stunted Yeti. I have a feeling Alliance/Horde Enthusiast and Kun-Lai Runt could replace Stunted Yeti, and of course as suggested above, Undead Valkyr for Tiny Apparition.

Use Unborn Val'kyr (1,2,1) First Turn: Pass (due to stun), then Curse of Doom, then Haunt. Switch to and Ikky (1,1,1) to Black Claw then Flock to quickly melt him!
If you do not have those two pets, alternatives are Ghastly Kid for the Val'kyr (use Ethereal first turn then Haunt) and second pet with Black Claw and a stampede-type move. Ikky takes less damage from his moves, so I recommend him over a Zandalari... but if you don't have him, a Zandalari will do fine!

Switch to Macabre
Siphon Life > Pass (due to stun) > Dead Man's Party > Bone Bite

My Macabre was only of uncommon quality & only took 200 damage WIN :D

I'm going out on a limb by making this claim but here it goes anyhow! Currently, it's quite possible that the best choice - for those who base best choices upon efficiency and effectiveness - is as follows:

Stage One, Foe Reaper 50, use an Amethyst and/or a Crimson Shale Hatchling . Use Stone Rush and Burn, in that order, on repeat. Welcome to Sixth-round Victory-town!

Stage Two, on Unfortunate Defias, Trashy is a far better choice than any rabbit could be due to it being far stronger. Not to mention that a Family Reunion followed by a Dumpster Dive is entirely a knock-out combination here -- if need be, quick clean up of any remaining trash can be accomplished with a Nexus Whelpling and it's tried & true Arcane Storm to Mana Surge. Against Angry Geode, a rotation with Tiny Red Carp of Whirlpool, Cleansing Rain, Pass, Water Jet, Water Jet, Water Jet will quickly lay waste here -- clean up with Nexus Whelpling Arcane Storm to Mana Surge or have a Fledgling Warden Owl or a Sharptalon Hatchling (the key is a higher-strength Battle Pet with the Savage Talon ability) in your line up so that you can switch them in and more quickly deal with Aquatic trash in case that's what spawns for your encounter.

Stage Three, the ridiculous Mining Monkey. It's best to Netherspace Abyssal , Explode and Crimson Spore , Explode. Done. Clean up with, you guessed it, Nexus Whelpling Arcane Storm to Mana Surge (or your favorite go-to choice.)

Stage Four, I agree with the strategy that other's have posted here regarding "Captain" Klutz. Unborn Val'kyr . Pass, Curse, Haunt, then Zandalari Kneebiter , Black Claw to Hunting Party for the win.

Stage Five, Klutz's Battle Rat has been well acknowledged and the Zandalari Kneebiter Black Claw to Hunting Party will promptly suffice however, I suggest cleaning up with Nexus Whelpling Arcane Storm to Mana Surge. Klutz's Battle Monkey is another easy target for Explode. Considering that Explode is based upon the maximum health of the Battle Pet which casts it, a couple possible higher-health options at this point could be Pocket Cannon and Pet Bombling . As always, clean up is made easy with a Nexus Whelpling and Arcane Storm to Mana Surge. I wonder how Klutz's Battle Bird will be won - no, just kidding, I don't - it's gonna be with the Nexus Whelping , you silly! Only this time there should be time enough to incorporate some Tail Sweeps between the Arcane Storm to Mana Surge cooldowns.

(If you only had one of these Nexus Whelplings in your current Battle Pet collection but have any inclination to battle pets via Battle Pet Pet Battles, I highly recommend getting at least a second of these Nexus Whelplings. If you had two or three upon entering Pet Battle Challenge: Deadmines, despite how much it seemed like they've been used up to this point, they should have plenty of health left even if your Nexus Whelpling inventory was poorly rotated throughout the clean-up roles in previous fights.)

Stage Six, defeating Cookie's Leftovers in or around ten rounds by using Searing Scorchling (Pass, Scorched Earth, Flame Breath, Conflagrate, then Flame Breath) and Spawn of Onyxia (Pass, Scorched Earth, Tail Sweep, then Tail Sweep) may be comparable to the more straightforward Mechanical Pandaren Hatchling method, use discretion.

As I remember a time when I had but a few Battle Pets and would look on Internet for strategies to consider for various Battle Pet Pet Battles, it was my aim here to offer some more Battle Pet options for people to choose from for running this quest! My other goal was to lend some of my expertise in getting redundant tasks done hastily to the people which are more interested in that aspect than they are in how to get through an encounter by soloing it regardless of how many rounds or how long that method may entail.

I didn't have any of the pet combinations already in the comments, at least not with all of them to 25, so I ended up using Unborn Val'kyrx2 and Graves. The first two turns were passed, then the first val'kyr used Curse of Doom and Haunt. The second one then used Siphon Life and Unholy Ascension. I then used Graves to do Grave Destruction and like one Skull Toss to finish it off.

On the unlikely chance you don't have the Kneebiter leveled, a ?-2-1 Unborn Valkyr and ANY secondary pet with a DoT attack (bleed, poison, etc.) and a damage doubling attack (swarm, howl, etc.) will make short work of this.

Sort of kicking myself for not starting a leveling pet the first time I did this.

The Turkey method worked like a charm. I used a level 22 Highlands Turkey that was Uncommon Quality and a level 25 Highlands Turkey of Rare Quality. I also had the level 25 Nexus Welpling of rare Quality for backup. Did the rotation as stated and never took a hit. A little slow, but got the job done. Thanks for the tip.

From the new Argus pets swapping between Antoran Bilescourge and Bilescourge worked quite well for me.
Bone bite and drain blood attacks.
Third pet I put one with skills that increase damage done but didn't really need to use it much.

If you use the Rematch addon, here is the rematch code for all the teams with battle notes that I compiled from Xu-Fu's Pet Battle Strategies. Thank you very much!

If you don't use Rematch, you should, it makes running this (and other pet battles) so much easier. And Xu-Fu's is full of great strategies.

To use this code, select all the text below, hit Ctrl+C to copy, then create a new tab in your pet journal by clicking on the + sign to the right of the pet journal (Call it whatever you want but I call it "Dead Mines"), and then right click the tab and select the "Import Teams" option. You can then hit Ctrl+V to paste the code in there.

From then on, whenever you select one of the battle pets in the instance a little Rematch window will come-up asking if you want to load the team for that fight, load it and also be sure to click on the little note button so you can see the notes on what to do for each turn. If you start the fight and forgot to open the notes, don't worry, you can open them again by opening your pet journal and clicking on the note icon.

Two days it took me to find a team that could beat him...unborn val'kyr (21) zandalari kneebiter (25) azure crane chick (25)...he is one of those that can heal completely during battle - very frustrating but eventually do-able

This does not work, I've encountered the quest chain. I'm not sure if there was a rework over a glaring easy win, but when you use 'Food Coma' on him, then hit him with 'Peck' he gains Resilience for 3 rounds and he is immune to sleeps. That's enough time for him to heal to full health, making this a battle of him slowly chipping away at my pet health while remaining at almost full health the entire match.

I didn't have most of the pets mentioned in other strats here, so this guy kicked my butt for a couple hours.
Until I found this combo: Mini Diablo + Soul of the Aspects. Between Darkness (cuts healing in half) and Surge of Light (100% stun in Darkness), I only needed three rounds to power through, not even needing the third pet.

Here's the basic strat:
Diablo has speed, so he gets to go first. Cast DARKNESS
Diablo gets stunned. Switch to Soul of Aspects.
Soul casts SURGE OF LIGHT (stuns boss()
Soul casts BREATH (maybe twice, until 1 round of Darkness left)
Switch Diablo back, cast Darkness
Diablo stunned, switch to Soul and cast SURGE.
Repeat until dead.
Third pet slot could be a carry pet but it would need to either be timed right or absorb lot of damage. That might also screw the rotation up enough that one of the main pets dies. I haven't tried it, so maybe?

PS - I realize Diablo is an early collector's edition pet (somewhat rare), but you really just need a pet that can call Darkness for this strat. Soul is purchasable from the Blizzard store.

Grotesque - Shadow Shock, Agonyand Ghostly Bite.
Is very easy with this set up.

The winning team I used: level 23 uncommon 'highlands turkey'
level 19 uncommon 'turkey'
level 25 rare sharptalon hatchling ~ The main thing is to use Food Coma which has a 100% hit chance even with the low lvl pets, then use swarm to make for double damage and predatory strike. Takes a few turns but it worked.

I previously used the 3 turkey method, but found it does not work anymore ;(

So, I found a new team that worked perfectly on the first try.
I used Long-Eared Owl - CALL DARKNESS, got stunned and swapped to Bone Serpent and threw Nocturnal strike, bone barrage then death and decay. Swapped back to Long-eared owl and used nocturnal strike and Call darkness when it came back up. Kept up with this method. Eventually Klutz died.
I never had to use my third pet but I had Macabre Marionette in the 3rd slot.
My Bone Serpent died in the last round and I finished Klutz off with the Owl.

I used Unborn Val'kyr 1-2-1 and Highlands Turkey 1-1-2 with Highland having 90% health left. Just put Doom > Haunt > Flock til dead :)

List of options for replacements:

Slot 1. A pet with 251 or higher speed with Void Portal, Portal, Feign Death, Warning!, Warp, Explode, Burst, Baneling Burst, Corpse Explosion or Haunt.

Slot 2. A pet with 251 or higher speed with Black Claw and either Hunting Party or Flock There are currently four options for this Zandalari Anklerender (2,1,2), Ikky (1,1,1), Zandalari Kneebiter (2,2,2,), Foulfeather (1,2,1).

Slot 3. Leave this slot empty, either by putting a dead pet in it or a level 1 pet.

1. Any of the abilities listed in slot 1
2. Black Claw
3. Hunting Party or Flock
4. Hunting Party or Flock
5-6. If needed any damaging ability will work. Flying pets will continue to flock.

Unholy Ascension would also work for slot 1 but there are currently no pets with 251 or higher speed with that ability.

I didn't have the pets mentioned here so I used these:

Dark Phoenix Hatchling
Frostwolf Ghostpup
Timed the Phoenix' healing reduce before the big heal and used the wolfs' Ghostly bite just as Curse of Doom exploded, hard but menagable

Dark Whelpling: Honestly, I just called down call Darkness and Deep Breath

Lil Death Wing: Call darkness Then Elementium bolt.

Nexus Whelpling: Arcane Storm and Mana Surge killed him.

I just managed to down him with

* Unborn Valkyr (shadow slash / curse of doom / haunt)
* Blighthawk (infected claw / ghostly bite / lift-off )
* Ghostly Skull (shadow slash / ghostly bite / siphon life)

I started with the Valkyr's shadow slash and soaked the first stun. Then hit curse of doom, and haunt.

Blighthawk with ghostly bite, and spammed infected claw until ghostly bite came back up. By the time Haunt hit, I was easily able to polish him off with Blighthawk, and didn't even need the Skull.

After around twenty failures I’ve given up on this boss. Whatever I do, as soon as his health drops below 1000 he heals back up to full strength. I don’t know why, and I don’t know what I can do to stop it.

To kill him I’d need an attack which delivers 1000+ damage in one go, and that’s impossible.

This baddy in The Deadmines was seriously difficult. I tried numerous variations and his frequent stuns + heals kept him up. What barely worked was:

Zandalari Anklerender 2/2/3. Used Black Claw, then Hunting Party after he stunned. Primal Cry to reduce his speed 4 rounds.

Iron Starlette 1/1/2. Wind Up x2, Wind Up x2, ress, Explode!

Ikky 1/1/1. Black Claw, Flock, repeat.

NOTE: Using mixes of the below older advice always resulted in dead teams. Might have been buffed, as he often hits between 500-800 hps while your pet is stunned. Zandalari Anklerender in 3rd slot kept up with him heal for heal, hit for hit, until he rocks the stun-KO combo. Then it just keeps taking it down until death, ending with boss at nearly max health. Putting it in 1st slot knocked boss down between 400-500 health moving into 2nd pet.

if you have to use some broken strategy to get past something like this - thats bad game design. i tried everything else except that valkyr strategy. undead should be strong against humanoids, but it seems this isnt enough. using pets that can heal like crazy, not enough.

Got it today with Unborn Val'kyr ?/2/1, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling ?/1/1, and Darkmoon Zeppelin 1/2/?

Started with the Val'kyr and passed the first two rounds. Then Curse of Doom followed by Haunt.
Swapped in the Dragonling and did a Bombing Run followed by Explode.
The Zeppelin was automatically swapped in and I used a couple of Missiles (I think I used 2, but you may be able to get away with 1.)
Once the Val'kyr came back to life, I used Explode on the Zeppelin and it was enough to kill him.

I used Long-Eared Owl, Highlands Turkey and Sharptalon Hatchling

Both my Long-eared Owl and Highlands Turkey were level 23 and my Sharptalon was 25. I basically used Food Coma to knock him out and Call Darkness and Nocturnal Strike with Long-eared Owl and then used Falcasaur Swarm and Winds with Sharptalon. That was the only way I could get his health to go down and keep it from climbing back up. Good luck!

I used the three pets:

Highlands Turkey (1st slot)
Long-Eared Owl (2nd slot)
Lesser Voidcaller (3rd slot)

I basically kept switching pets as needed (like when they got stunned). But I used Food Coma a lot from the turkey. Call darkness from the owl. and 1 & 3 from the Voidcaller... I can't remember the exact order but I know using those pets kicked his ass in one go with all three at half health or more after he was defeated.

Two pet strategy, with a third as a safety, none of them died.

Unborn Val'kyr: Pass when stunned, use Curse of Doom as soon as you can, followed by Haunt. The valkyr will "die".
Now take out Zandalari Anklerender (mine is Breed #8 P/S, but I don't think it should matter for this fight). Use Black Claw, followed by Hunting Party.

Klutz went down before I had the chance to use any other abilities, but if he hadn't I was planning on popping Hunting Party one more time. The fight was over in Round 7 with 60% left on my Val'kyr and 81% on my Anklerender. I had Ikky as my back-up but there was definitely no need.

There are many potential substitutes for the Val'kyr but I haven't tested them all out. Essentially what you want is anything that applies damage over time, or a debuff, along with a burst of damage. Here are a few possible substitutes listed below:

Baa'l using Curse of Doom followed by Darkflame and then switching to pet #2.
Hungering Claw using Call Darkness followed by Curse of Doom and then switching to pet #2.
Creepy Crate using Curse of Doom followed by Agony and then switching to pet #2.
Eye of Corruption using Curse of Doom followed by Nightmare and then switching to pet #2.
Faceless Minion using Forboding Curse followed by Curse of Doom and then switching to pet #2.
Necrofin Tadpole using Death and Decay followed by Curse of Doom and then switching to pet #2.

Other pets that can most easily be subbed for the Anklerender are:

Ikky using Black Claw followed by Flock
Zandalari Kneebiter using Black Claw followed by Hunting Party
Foulfeather using Black Claw followed by Flock
