He's on a semi-long respawn timer. I killed the other named mob twice before I saw him spawn. Use the time he's respawning to kill his bodyguards, or else you'll have to take on 5 mobs at a time. If you're the first to arrive, I recommend having at least one other person to help. If not, you can try pulling him funny; I've managed to get him and only two bodyguards a few times.

the 2 first of the bodyguards can be pulled, i soloed this easy as a 41 feral druid, pulled the first 2 then sneak behind him and kill him, only having 2 other mobs at me :)

as the post above says, 2 first body guards can be pulled seperate, easy kill for me as frost mage 41, sheeped him, frost nova'd his two remaining guards, and killed seperately, then killed him once they were dead

Just killed him and all of his bodyguards (3 37's) alone as a 39 hunter. It can be done.

By standing on the border to the little pool of water to the east of him, and creeping forward one step at a time, I was able to pull just him and one of his guards.

Soloed as lvl 36 Prot paladin..
Was buffed, with scolls and crap..
Used Lay on hands, mana potion, and divine shield..
Really hard in that level..

easy for rogues i soloed it at lvl 39 wat i did was to pull with throw all mobs that aren't very close to him then u'll have 2 witch doctors and him follow this steps
1) Sap Gan'zulah
2) pick a witch doctor and kill it note that u wont get out of combat after u kill it
3) rapidly go kill the other one, by now sap would have faded so use blind on him
4) easily and fast kill gan`zulah

i didn't needed to use evasion or pots but it isn't bad to have some

Just soloed as a level 39 Holy Priest - not the best of ideas on my part.

First try - used the idea above, pulling just a guard and the chief into the water after shielding. SW: Pained them both, killed the guard with Smite, but died easily once the chief went berserk.

Second try - guard A was dead, so I tried just pulling the chief. Didn't work, and was unprepared for a two-man fight. Died easily.

Third try - Got well-fed Roast Raptor buff along with other priest buffs, including touch of weakness. Didn't shield yet, mind controlled the chief and killed his other guard, pulling another witchdoctor mob in the process. Attacked that mob until time ran out, shielded, dotted chief, and smitespammed him to death. The rest of the last mob's health wasn't bad afterward once the flurry of blows for berserked chief was gone. By the time Gan'zulah had gotten to me, he was at 45%, and the accidental pull was at about 70%.

Not sure how well smitespam would work for other specs of priest, but I hope the strategy works for someone else.

got him down quick and easy with a lv 43 demo lock ..took him a ^&*!in long time to spawn holy @#$%..anyways just sent my void in dot dot shadow bolt down then his guards then another joined and got all 3 of them down and my void was still alive with 700 health meh there's a lock for ya..well easy fight just a very long wait just like all the others say

soloed as 40 affliction lock. i was there for about 15 minutes before the spawn, so i had cleared all his mobs. he spawned with 2 mobs when i was in the bathroom, so my VW already had them all. Just used howl of terror and got him down. really not a problem at all. should be easy for anyone with a fear or any type of crowd control.

I solo'ed it with a 38 hunter, grabbed the loot quick and then died. I wated a little bit for him to rez, but when he did he came with two guards..it was a fun battle.

Easy to solo it as level 36 warrior, I only pull him and sweeping strike and i kill all in same time, easy one, he hit 90-200 dmg every hit....

soloed as a 36 twink rogue by sapping one body guard, blinding another, popping evasion killing the other two while tanking Gan. I managed to kill all four guards and then vanished and got my heath up to solo Gan who hits like a truck when he enrages btw.

I couldn't solo this on my 34 Lock, My voidwalker can't keep the aggro if I'm "Health funneling" him, fighting mobs that lvl. I Was able to solo Nezzliok the Dire for that quest, though (mostly trough having my voidy tank him, whilst health funneling when nessecary, I've only applied my dot's once, because they had a huge chance to miss, and, when applied, they generate a huge amount of Threat, compared to a voidwalker at that lvl vs a lvl 40), so I guess Gan'Zulah is solo-able for a lvl 35 Lock.

Comfirmed long respawn time. I went in, killed the witchdoctor, and looked around to see if he was around, and he wasn't there. I rechecked the whole ruins for him, only to end up double checking the witchdoctor's area and seeing him in front of the throne-looking device and to the right of a water pool, just past the other guy for the quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=584 (Bloodscalp Clan Heads)

Respawn timer may be even longer than 15 minutes..I killed the other guy for the quest 3 times before Gan was back.

Not a hard mob itself, but together with the witchdoctors around + the enrage make this fight kinda tricky. Managed to solo him as lvl 38 priest but it was not that easy.

Confirmed that respawn time is hell long...
You can clear the entire area before he shows up.
My advice: If you see him, run as hell to get to him first :)

He does have a long respawn time but you can use that to prepare to fight him. He is quite soloable. I killed him and one add as a lvl 38 shadow priest. When you go up and kill the other guy go over to where he spawns if hes not there walk along the edging of the pool till abit before you agro the guy on the other side and turn and wait. He spawns with 2 random mobs. (witchdoctor and headhunter for me) But in this spot if you turn toward him and shoot his closest add you only pull him and one add. You don't need to clear anything else. Makes it easier for a clothy. Though he himself does pack quite a wallop on a clothy so come prepared for close combat. Priests will want their Power Word: Shield ready as well as their Renew.

A warning: this guy can be knocked back through the wall. I used typhoon while doing the quest for the Loremaster achievement, and had to wait for the respawn.

According to Lore: Gan'zulah is Chieftan of the Bloodscalp Trolls (Obviously). But the Bloodscalp Trolls tortured Mandokir until he died a painful death. Mandokir then possessed Gan'zulah's body and resides in Zul'gurub as the Bloodlord.
