This guy is normally non-hostile. In order to kill him, you need to start a dungeon event with Dawn's Gambit.

You can attack him without the gambit. To fight him without dying you have to first individually pull all the student groups then aggro him.

If you're a rogue and want to solo both Vectus and Marduk, attack Marduk and instantly vanish in the corner of the room away from the students. They will all aggro but they will no longer be drawn to the platform. Then attack Marduk when you are ready...rest and repeat on Vectus.

He will also turn hostile (and aggro the entire room) if you talk to him three times.

for everyone to know...just cast some spell on him or AoE near him he will attack u but dont forget to kill all students first this way cause all of tehm will aggro u once u attack him

If you have a pet or minion, be aware that Vectus' fire aura will cause them to attack if they aren't on passive. If you aren't expecting it, it makes for a very quick wipe.

Here is a nifty trick to kill vectus without the gambit:

Use some type of AoE that does not require targets.
such as Consecration.

If you have AoEs that require targets, simply pull a student near him and use AoE. If you hit him he will attack you. I only recently learned about the gambit but have been killing Vectus for years.

Edit: its really fun to pull the whole room, but I do not advise unless you have the survivability for it.

I can confirm that they can (easily) kill an 80. I'm a Holy Paly and I tried to use JoL on one of the students in the pack that I Consecrated...not realizing I still had Vectus targeted.

Apparently, 40 level 59s CAN kill an 80 (and quite easily.)

I discovered, that as a solo 70 BM hunter, you can trigger so everyone gets hostile, by putting an Immolation trap next to Vectus. If it weren't for a pet, who I sent as far away as possible, while I ran the other way, and that wonderful Feign Death, I'd be dead too.

As it were now, I could rez the pet, and then take on the students in small groups. The entire room took over an hour, but eventually, the last student was killed, and both Vectus, and that other guy behind him, Marduk Blackpool, was easy to kill.

The gambit takes a few seconds to work, so you can run into the room, place the gambit and then run to stand right next to Vectus. When the room becomes hostile, you can kill Vectus and just run out without having to attack anything else.

As of Cataclysm all mobs in Vectus' room are neutral and aggro-able without any additional actions, including Vectus and his counterpart.

Its a shame these 2 are Not making it too MoP, It be a bit of Fun with a Double team boss fight. We need more of these In Wow. Its a Fun fight

As of patch 5.0.4, this mini-boss no longer exists due to the major Scholomance revamp.

His gossip text if players speak to him before making him turn hostile:

Have you come from the Burning Steppes? Do you have my black dragon eggs?

What, may I ask, are you doing here? Put on your student's attire, and study!

Be silent! Do you think our plagued dragons will hatch and train themselves?

I wonder if there's a way to trigger something if we bring him an egg and/or dress like a student.
