Stay on their current realm and change nothing. The realm will progress into the Pre-Patch and eventually Burning Crusade, business as usual.

Transfer off of their current realm to a "Classic Era Realm", which will always be on Phase 6 Naxxramas Patch on Classic. This means they will not be able to play in Burning Crusade.

Players can pay a fee, of which we do not know the amount, to have their character cloned to the Classic Era Realm and stay on the Pre-Patch realm, having a character on both Classic Era and Burning Crusade.

People have been hacking around and playing old WoW versions for many years. With Blizzard opening up their own classic experiences, they are able to ban the private servers and get people back into paying money for WoW subs. If they decide to play current content to supplement Blizzard's engagement metrics, fantastic. If those people just play on classic/bc/wrath servers, then it's more money in Blizzard's pockets. And people who want to snapshot their characters to both realms is more money in Blizzard's pocket too. It was a smart move for Blizzard to do this parallel classic WoW path, but it's not for everybody. I, for one, like the changes that have been made to the game over the years. I have no desire to strip all of that away in the name of challenge and nostalgia. I like all the experiences that I've had in the game, through all of the many changes that Blizzard has made.Comment by VeninGreyAttunements? Because, really, it could get annoying trying to get people to help you with a "previous tier" attunement when everyone was "done" with it, and you got on the scene late. Okay, yeah, that I guess is going to make a difference. Because, really, it could get annoying trying to get people to help you with a "previous tier" attunement when everyone was "done" with it, and you got on the scene late. But with group tools, okay, yeah, I see how it could work.Comment by RabbitEarWas there any mention of additional character slots on each realm? Or what happens when a character is moved to the Classic Era realm; does that free up a slot in the Progression Server for a new character? I don't want to have to delete an alt to be able to make my Draenei Shaman... (yes, I could always create a new character on another server, but I only want to play on an RP server, and there's only one in Classic).
