I could not agree with you more, seeing all these people commenting on how terrible people that likes flying are, makes me sick. Flying is great and that feeling when you finally was able to buy flying for the first time in tbc? have people forgot about that already?. Flying is one of the main reasons why i have fun in this game and that is removed like everything else in this game.
AWESOMEEE blizzard saved the game with that!, flying makes people lazy, there is no world pvp, exploration, lore, and everything that did make wow that great game of all time, me and my friends will stay here more than ever with that news, really happy!
Ok, so the dice have been cast: NO flying in Tanaan Jungle - and probably not in any new zones or expansions either. This is what WoW lead designer Ion Hazzikostas told Polygon in a recent interview. Initially Blizzard expected to patch in flying at some point, but now it has changed its mind. Quote:"Having looked at how flying has played out in the old world in the last couple of expansions, we realized that while we were doing it out of this ingrained habit after we introduced flying in 'The Burning Crusade', it actually detracted from gameplay in a whole lot of ways." "The world feels larger , feels more dangerous. There's more room for exploration, for secrets, for discovery and overall immersion in the world."Considering that dozens of mounts and shop(!) mounts just look good/feel right as flying mounts, that the very popular Druid flight form will be pointless then, and that the whole Cataclysm expansion overhauled the "old" Azeroth with flying in mind, this is a rather radical move nevertheless. No flying was basically introduced with Pandaria's Timeless Isle, where you could farm epic starter/catchup gear everywhere from mobs and chests. This "adventure mode" along the lines of Diablo 3 is obviously premier casual gamer content, which the developer want to expand upon in the future. Is it worth it to trade flying for that type of content? Hard to say - time and the number of subs will tell.
Given that you can not fly in MoP until you get to 90 (and then you move to WoD, so who would pick up the license then) I find it funny that in order to start MoP you have to fly up to your airship.
One of my favourite moments in WoW is taking the first flight in Outland Nagrand. It was like real magic, pure nerdgasmic joy...Another one is being able to fly over Azeroth after years... List can go on.And I know I'm not alone.Flight did not ruin this game, it's here since TBC and been there for 4 (FOUR!) expansions. We even had war zones open to flight like Hellfire, Halaa and partly Wintergrasp. We had no PvP problem with flight back then.Year long content patches and always problematic Class Balance issues and simplifying the game ruined this game way more than flight.Zones like Tol Barad, Thunder Isle and Timeless Isle ruined the fun even more and now we have the abomination boss of those zones: Ashran... And a whole continent of Draenor like a planet size Timeless Isle.Flight was always one of the best and literally "fantastic" things in this game. No loyal player, not even no-flight supporters deserve to lose their "option" of flight.Even generally no-flight people are always in this same bully attitude of: "stfu get over it nubz lol" I think they still would be quite OK if flight was back as it was promised and as it should be.And actually that attitude alone kind of proves how people deserve their flight back and even in more places.I can't believe still some devs claim this is a "move forward"... It's not a "progressive" move at all, think it like this: Government says: "No more air routes or flight from now on, we're removing that, so you can use only trains and your own cars to enjoy scenery, but just the sights we want you to see!"Also, (since we're living the fantasy!) "You can use your hard earned private jets, jetpacks and all but they have to stay on ground and as car speed."And saying "You can still fly in old areas" is like:"You can still fly, but only like it was at your Grandma's backyard which now as a grown up, you visit like once or twice a year, but you can't use those flight stuff around where your job and new house is! You'll stay on ground and just use whatever public transport we give you. Wanna travel free? Use your slow assed car or bike or whatever!Yeah we may have promised we'll give it later but no, not anymore! Not ever! Why? Well because we don't wanna!"Great, but maybe not so great, isn't it? :)
I unsubbed 6 months ago, came back with a token for one month, let that run out a couple weeks ago. I have a second token sitting unused in my inventory. It will not be used until flying is reintroduced.I predict WoW will drop under 5 million subs by the next quarterly report, the lowest ever since Vanilla.
Thanks Blizzard! I love my Reins of Galakras mount and Sky Golem! The Sandstone Drake is also quite cool! Now I can only use them to AFK mid-air in Stormwind or Orgrimmar instead of flying them around Draenor! Totally not pointless at all! Good work Blizzard keep it up this is the absolute way to get more subscriptions!
It's basically a cost-benefit calculation: No flying -> back to film set-style worlds as in vanilla -> more content/time -> more xpacs to sell! After 10 years of WoW it should also be clear that the devs around Ion Hazzikostas are the "WoW liquidation team" - whatever comes after it.
We should be refunded for at least the cost of all the flying mounts we bought.Especially any flying mounts that were bought in the Blizzard Store for real money. This is the type of decision made by a company that believes it has enough market share that it can now dictate to players, instead of listening to them. They made that mistake before with the "your personal info will be linked to your forum posts" until people went crazy about it and threatened lawsuits. I actually wonder whether a class action lawsuit would work to recoup the value of flying mounts sold under the pretense that they would continue to have value. Someone get on that: If they think they'll lose money, they'll put flying back in.
I don't agree with the total removal of flying. I understand that it does take away from the game with questing and skipping content so why not just make it where you can gain the flying ability for a zone by completing that zones achievement for completing all quests this way it wont take away from content being you cant fly until the content is complete and doesnt take away flying which wouldnt be right with all the gold and real world money spent on the ability to fly and the flying mounts. i mean its just a thought but i think it makes total sense.or even make certain realms no flying realms so it gives a choice instead of a no flying blanket cast on the whole game, One of the greatest things about hitting higher lvs like lv 60 is that you finallly get to fly, But the Only thing that would make it somewhat tolerable to not being able to fly is to at least severely increase the ground speed of mounts,As of mid June 2015 about twenty days after my post i had found out that blizzard is pretty much using my idea i am sure its just a coincidence but whatever i think its awesome. they are going to be adding flying in draenor but only after you had explored the content on draenor and you unlock it by achievement. which my basically just a more in depth thought out version of my idea as you can read what my idea was above .
All of the reasoning Blizzard is giving us is garbage.By the time you reach level 100, you have already been exposed to most, if not all, of the zones and content anyway. The simple facts:This continent is WAY smaller with MUCH less stuff than Pandaria or Northrend. They are afraid adding flying will further point out just how small Draenor is.They save a lot of Devel time and money not tailoring new ExPacs for flying. They miss the point that we find flying FUN, while trying to tell us the total BS that flying hurts our fun. They will lose a lot of ppl over this issue. They clearly do not care, and do not believe that this hurts them and the players. This is very very sad.
Really, really disappointed to hear that flying isn't coming back. I unsubbed months ago because PvP is a mess and there was nothing else to do besides sit in your garrison all day waiting for a queue to pop. I keep reading the news on this site to see if there's anything that would make me want to come back, if only with the WoW token...but the more I've read, the less I want to come back. No flying ever again is pretty much the nail in the coffin for me. Shame, because I spent over seven years playing this game and met a lot of great people back in the day when there actually was a community and not just mindless grinding through LFD/LFR. Now everybody I know who once played has quit, and it looks like I'm joining the bandwagon. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
I unsubbed :( And I'm not going to Blizzcon. I'm not wasting my vacation on that, especially when I bet people are going to protest or make scenes to let the developers know what they think of not flying.
Good, keep flying out of the game. No-one needs it! :D
Been debating on weather to keep playing or not . Yes flying is An important part of my game .
Even when players have complaints about this like having to be raid ready to get the core hound mount, or the school of hard knocks achievement being infuriatingly stupid no one listens. So what your point of reference? If we aren't all frothing at the mouth screaming for blood will you just stop doing anything and if we are you'll just ignore us?Not being able to fly while leveling is fine. I don't know why you built the cata zone so we had to fly. That was 100% you bad. Even having zones that you can't fly in is OK, but never having flight in and expansion is what's going to limit game play because players will just abandon the zones as soon as an expansion is done. As for your claim that flight paths make everything better, flight paths are not everywhere and it is a total waste of time to run to where they aren't which is why so many of us put forth the effort to get faster flying and complete the holiday meta achievement so we didn't have to rely on flight paths when we just want to get to our destination not take the big pointless loopy tour that is a flight path.
