Most of the time I play which ever class is closest to the stereotypical magic user. There is just something about blasting my enemies with 'arcane might', roasting them to a nice crispy medium well with fire that just appeals to me :) I think this comes from my first 'out of the box' thinking in 'old school' AD&D when my mage after some quick thinking decided to toss a fireball into the 20 by 20 room. filled with all sorts of little nasty poisonous 'things' and just at the LAST moment, having the 'big dumb fighter' slam the door shut....I'll let you ponder just what would happen in that room. :)

It depends on RPG that I play. Sometimes I prefer rogue classs becouse I love stealth gaming, sometimes a caster. I've never play by warrior, I dont know why =)
It really depends on the game - before WoW, I usually played the standard warrior/barbarian melee class, but starting as a druid (albeit feral ever since) made me try out the ranged classes more (well, WoW's casters are more interesting than previous game's casters)
Rogue. Always rogue.Having no set sides really allows for a "dog-eat-dog" playstyle. It means you have to keep your allies and enemies close at the same time, never trusting anyone.A good rogue is invaluable to know, but foolish to trust.
In single player RPGs I usually some sort of a mage or rogue, or combination of these two roles. I like how the scholar type of class can be combined with cutpurse and stealth philosophy. Sometimes its necesary to save mana to shot an arrow or two. Spellcraft is usually an expensive hobby and i like to have limitless funds i get from picking pockets here and there. Sadly a lot of games dont let me combine these playstyles.
Every time I play an RPG that allows you to choose a class type I always gravitate to the warrior types. the plate wearing, two hand wielding, non magic using melee masters. I get an odd sense of satisfaction beating somethings or someones skull in up close. even with range weaponry I go for the ones that are only effective point blank half the time. not sure why I never got into caster types though, maybe because i know that I don't have the intellect to manage spell casting if i myself were in the situation, but hell anyone can learn to wield an ax, but it takes a true warrior to master doing so.
Mage, always a mage-like character. Was always into arcane, mystic stuff in RPGs.
The class that I always end up playing in RPG's is a caster class. Any type of ranged damage dealer that uses magic. I guess I am drawn to them due to my need to watch. Playing a caster allows me to survey the battlefield and foresee anything coming my way.
I normally got for mid range or fast but weak weapons depending on the range the game provides and light or medium armor. If the game does the hitting for me and I don't have to time my swings I'll sometimes go for the big slow weapons. Never been good at "pet" or "support" classes although I am really liking my holy paladin so far (level 83 warcraft).
I usually play the "Chuck Norris" role. Kick A......
I usually play whatever I'm in the mood for at the time I am creating a character. Some days I want to run right into the frey and bash enemies with melee, other times I'll sit back and play the caster role and take as little damage as possible. Either way, as long as it gets the job done I'll play it.
A lot depends on the game... For solo play, I tend to go the rogue/archer route - I like to put out a lot of damage quickly, especially if I can get some sort of health drain as well.I prefer lots of little hits to the occasional big one too - and therefore go dual wield rather than 2H.On MMORPGs, I tend to go tank. I like the challenge/thought required - and Paladins on WoW are pretty much perfect for me :)
Most of the time I go for the lone ranger type, with his bow in one hand and a sharp sword on his back. Alignment: true neutral
I usually play a caster that can heal myself and allies, while also dealing damage to my enemies
