There might be a few weakness here and there, but overall, Blizzard's work is trully epic, starting with Warcraft I : Orcs vs. Humans to WoW : Cataclysm (don't forget about Starcraft and Diablo of course). I trully enjoyed listening at Cataclysm soundtrack and I only wish I had the other soundtrack as well. At least, I found a way to extract the music from WoW's files and now I can enjoy ALL the songs. I particularly like one of the Sholazar Basin musics. (w00t @ PlayMusic(..) from WoW API!)
I agree completely. A great soundtrack, especially the last track, Nightsong, but I was looking forward to more of the individual tracks.
I very much agree. The first time I opened the new patch with the Cataclysm log-in, I was blown away. The overtures of The Shattering are the perfect match to what the cataclysm signals. Everything in Azeroth is in a frenzy - to rebuilt what has been torn asunder, to fortify, and to prepare for the attack of the greatest danger the world has faced yet. Whereas Arthas was a continent away and his army was quite entrenched on Icecrown Glacier, Deathwing is very much a mobile and deadly threat. The music, with the discord among the strings, the high pitched winds, and heavy brass communicate the sentiment and worry of this troublesome time in a very profound manner. It is sad that there isn't more of it.I've always enjoyed Hans Zimmer's video game scores, notably for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (though the Inception and Dark Knight soundtracks will blow you away as well), the scores by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori for the Halo Trilogy (haven't bothered with anything after 3 in terms of music), and the notable composures of the great John Williams. But from Wrath of the Lich King and now into Cataclysm and Starcraft 2 I think Blizzard has really outdone themselves to make music that many people never wanted to hear or turned off to listen to their Ipods and Zunes into the much more appreciable tones introduced in 2010.I intend to find more about the soundtrack as I've purely enjoyed the music while playing the game and not while doing other activities. In all likelihood I will enjoy it just as much as the SC2 soundtrack, but from regular playing it just seems inevitable to not be able to put all of the game's sound onto a disc. Just hope there's a place to one day find everything for download as separates or something. Here's to looking forward to more great compositions!
Cataclysm intro music is pure win. 'nuff said.
My favorite tracks are Breath of Al'Akir, Depths of Vashj'ir, and Castaways.Castaways seems quite far off the beaten path in terms of World of Warcraft's style, but still manages to fit right in.And it's always nice to be reminded that there are people as crazy as me when it comes to enjoying video game music. 8)
Ashenvale music is beautiful... Intro music is epic. Don't know if they changed Stormwind music since i re.rolled to horde long time ago lol
Can you buy the soundtrack anywhere (legally) without buying the collector's edition?
I really enjoyed the soundtrack, especially Curse of the Worgen, Breath of Al'Akir, Nightsong, and Castaways. I actually found myself whistling along to the tune of Castawys.
Nightsong is my favorite track, by far, I'll just replay that one song over and over again.
I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like a lot of the new music. It's so loud and distracting, and I often turn it off while playing. It's no where near the epicness original WoW music had, as well as some of BC. Guess I'm more of a fan of the ambiance. It makes it feel more like you're there, where as this new stuff is so bold and blaring, and really just annoying. Raid-wise, AQ and Naxx are definitely great enough to listen to in game and out, but that's really all I can say.
Couldn't help but add. Every game has it's strong pieces of musical score and WoW is no exception.Ashevale, Dun Morogh, Duskwood were the strongest vanilla pieces.Hellfire, Nagrand, Netherstorm were always captivating in TBC.WLK was the first time i turned music off for good. Was extremely unpleasant for my ears. Now there are some nice changes to old zone music like Northern and Sothern Barrens feature new beautiful music score together with older worn-out one. Interesting music of Orgrimmar. Beautifully haunting pieces of Deepholm. But vanilla music was the strongest for me
The Night Elf Music is what made it for me in the expansion, it has epic written all over it.
