OMG! - now i can get rid off all those level 1 toons on other realms that a just there so i can talk to family and friends. What's next Blizz? - allowing game mail across realms for BOA gear?ok - that was my very first reaction upon seeing that Blizz was working on cross (faction/realm/game) chat system (and as a guild officer i thought this would be awesome to have - would make raid/event invites so much eaiser)i love the idea of this feature BUT if I have to use my real world name or my email account info I WILL NOT be signing up. Before WoW went to battle<dot>net id for login we had “account names” I say bring them back (I might remember mine LOL) they were all unique ids that we picked and only Blizz should be able to link them to our RL info. Then when you send a RealID friend request it could come from “accountname (charactername - realmname - gameplatform)” and allow the receiver to send back a “how do I know you?” message maybe.

On the + side:Nice feature! On the - side:Why showing others personal information? To track ninjas etc? Bad move to let others suffer.I'm shure ppl whant to use this even tho they don't know eachother IRL.
I'm surprised no one mentioned this. Your name is step one for recovering your hacked WoW account. Did anyone notice how many more accounts got hacked with battle.net? That's because you use your personal e-mail address, which is also the same e-mail address you use to recover passwords, change your email address, and other things that make your account harder to recover. Basically this is what happened. They steal your bnet accout, and password, then try that password with the actual e-mail account.Meaning that if you're nieve, and keep you bnet, and email password the same, a hacker will be on your account, under a new login name in literally seconds. Now imagine its now common practice to give away your login info, which in this case is also your personal email address... imagine how many more people will be hacked.Bottom line: they're sacraficing security, for utility. And they have been ever since bnet logins were introduced to wow. This is just taking security lacks to a whole new level. Better invest in authenticators now boys. We're gonna need em.
That's why Blizzard suggests that you ought to have a separate address used only for battle.net... But yeah. This is insane.I also see serious issues with the thing where addons can get your real name, and thus share it with anyone they want.
Yeah I totally agree with most people. Giving out your real world name is a terrible idea. I also don't want them to see my e-mail address either. Its says in the description that seeing real names etc... is just a feature so hopefully you can select who can see what. I don't mind my RL best friend seeing my name but even that they should already know it and know my character names so why have my name again? But a friend that I know just from my guild doesn't need need to know my real name, email address, shoe size etc... Plus its bad enough for girls, when people in WoW figure out that they are a girl and get some creepy guy stalking them, but know they have your real name plus email. Come on Blizzard what are you thinking. If everything is private or I can chose who see what and who can see what. I'll do it and be happy. But if showing everything is mandortory that no way!
This would be really useful if there was an IM client that let you use battlenet. I spent some time just now trying out various ones that claimed to be able to do it, but they are all old, dated 2003-2005, I am guessing that nothing actually works right now. If anyone can get one working, share the info. I'd love to be able to just be online, and not playing a blizzard game, and reachable if my guild needs me.
I think it's great that they will add this but giving your battle.net account name (e-mail) does not sound good to me :-/They said that you should add only people you trust 100% but why to make it limited like that? And can you really trust them?Couldn't they make another solution for this? Like creating ID number for every battle.net account by date & time it's made. For example: account is created on 2 June 2010 at 16:47Battle.net ID: 0206201016470* 0 on the end could be number from 0 to 9 if by some crazy chance more than one accounts are made on exactly same time...I'm not sure if they can make something like this and I don't really know how all that things (creating IDs & other numbers from things like date & time...) work but it is only my suggestion for adding friend from another faction / server / game without giving him important info.If someone knows how that things work please tell me because I would like to know :)
