The World of RetconCraft at it's finest, the Shadowlands arc that is. Obviously Jailer wasn't ever planned ahead, since we well know that reason for Sargeras corruption was first major retcon that started the World of RetconCraft - him being manipulated not by the Eredar, as WarIII manual stated, but rather by the Nathrezim. And while we could assume, that eversince Chronicle clarified how Nathrezim convinced him, etc. the Jailer might've been the culprit, the fact that redoing the cosmology with 7th Force and all the changes that Shadowlands wrought only now, makes such claim doubious.Jailer's involvment is a classic retroactive move and he's just inserted into the previous lore, pretending that this was the case from the begining. I believe the idea for his existence might've been conceived sometime close to the Legion, but for instance his pact with Sylvanas eversince her death in ICC after Arthas' fall must be a device of late BFA - as her pact with Helya in Legion (of which terms we didn't know), suggested that Blizzard intended her to become Jailer's agent only then, and not earlier.
danuser.is.so.effin.badits insane.
I cannot fathom how bad this story goes..
the problem with the jailer is that he really wasnt "front and center" of this xpac ... sylvanas was ... from being the one who triggered the xpac ... to being the main villian at almost every single turn ... you wonder why the jailer is unrecognizable ... its b.c he did litterally nothing the entire xpac ... he walked around and said stuff ... thats it ... there isnt a cutscene of him doing anything special or interesting ... its all just him talking ... no wonder hes boring as hell ... atleast sylvanas invaded ardenwield and did all kinds of other stuff ... he litterally did nothing ... EVEN WHEN WE BEAT SYLVANAS HE THROWS HER SOUL INTO HER AND LEAVES LITTERALLY DOING NOTHING SPECIAL OR UNHEARD OF FOR HIM ... you have 20+ years of lore behind sylvanas ... and she answers to some guy who just showed up out of nowhere basically ... we have less then a year of story with this specific "being" or 20+ years of all the other main characters with massive story lines and larger then life lives ... this guy showed up going "i will rule everything no matter the cost" and he won at every single turn ... there was no surprise setback or anything just "he won" then "he won" again and again ... untill now we somehow rally around this broken half person half mongrel at this point ... and she somehow gives up some massive key to defeating this guy who can LITTERALLY MIND CONTROLL ANYONE AT WILL ... like absolutely nothing made sense this xpac and somehow the writers at blizzard though "this is great just keep making things be his fault and it will work" ... NO you cannot rewrite 20 years of history and think it will work ... you cannot place some guy behind every single event to ever happen and then just reveal that one day like yeah this guy was behind it all the whole time ... NO just simply no ... this is why the jailer failed to be interesting at all
At least his Reverb-game is on point.
Was the pre-release of these voice lines also part of the jailer's plan all along?
They should just realize that they messed up entirely with how they presented Zovaal and shift the entire idea of the mastermind behind this scheme to be Denathrius. Keep Denathrius around, he could end up leading the remnants of the Legion with his Nathrezim later on and make it clear he was the one guiding Zovaal through all the intrigues and that they were working together since the start. After all, Denathrius was the one who did pretty much everything important when it came to infiltration and manipulation, Zovaal's only real involvement was through the Helm (in which he failed, miserably) and through Sylvanas and the Nine.
Can't we kill the Jailer, and as we think all is well, we wake up in Ny'alotha, and all of Shadowlands was just a Nightmare induced fever-dream that N'zoth created in our heads, as he escaped the Forge of Origination Death-Star beam?
What were they thinking...
are all these points open? (in no particular order)1. actual deal between sylvanas & helya2. if sylvie saw the maw back in wotlk, what the F took her literal years until she herself became evuuulll3. actual deal between sylvanas & jailer4. what exactly made him realize the first ones' plan is flawed- and who/what/why/where/when are/were the first ones5. what did he actually do to the other covenant leaders that made them be mad and banish him6. why was he banished to the maw? did the maw exist before that?- and what / who broke him free- or dispelled the sigils burned on his body by the primus7. what de-facto broke the mech arbiter- or rather why would an immortal titan soul have ... an afterlive in the first place?8. jailers actual plan besides UnIvErSe DoMiNaTiOn mWahahaA :3- my biggest gripe. at least thanos had a somewhat-logical reasoning9. why is korthia a city of secrets? what are those secrets?10. how did he know where the sigil of primus was?11. what.are.those.sigils.even?- if it were the souls of the eternal ones that made them go from machines to self concious beings, why would they be able to ity-bity-nifty craft new ones themselves before going to ZM ezpz?even a fraction of those unanswered questions would be enough to justify bad writing in SL.
I'm skipping 9.2, which basically means I'll be taking a year off, and the Jailer is one of the largest reasons why.
Shame Afrisiabi can't be used as a scapegoat for this one eh?
