Quite some memories showing up ! Thanks for the good reminder WoWhead !
I bought WoTLK as a reward for leveling my warrior up to make a DK. I bought Battle Chest and started playing right before Wrath released, so it was 6 months or more before I got that Xpac lol.
Played since 2004 and WoD was the worst... but BC was the last xpac with great gear! Since Wotlk everything just looks the same. Go back to vanilla and BC to see what variety and color look like.Still nothing in WoD had the same reaction as Wrathgate. I'm not joking when I say if WoD had cutscenes I do not remember them.
Sad times when older expansions had more content than recent expansions, Wrath and Warlords might have been released on the same day, but for an expansion to be released, mere days after Blizzcon and with so much content, also including a very loved raid, Ulduar, really shows how the team back in those days, were really hard working and able to develop enjoyable content that, even IF there were unscrapped or unintentional mishaps, still had more and had a smoother ride along the way. This is what new employees at Blizzard should look towards inspiration, they still do a great job but given the difference, I really hope Battle For Azeroth will become something loved and memorable by us players for ages to come.
All I cared about was killing off Grom, watching Khadgar throw a big Pyroblast at the Garrisons and/or Ner'zhul blowing up Draenor, after all WoD brought, but we didn't get any of that. At least I got to kill Grommloc with Murkidan in PvP pet battles while in the Horde garrison. Good stuff. Anyway, great memories during WotLK! A lot of icecream memes and a lot of chilling with those guild mates.
I really had a lot of fun back in BC/WotLK, I think those areas and characters felt so much a part of the world and the lore it was great seeing and learning more about them. I find myself more often than not rerunning WotLK areas for goodies , I really loved those dungeons/raids.
One thing I always felt went underappreciated with WotLK was the installer. It gave you the summary of Warcraft 3's Human and Scourge campaigns, as well as the Scourge campaign in the Frozen Throne. Arthas's story was fresh in your mind when you logged into Stormwind/Orgrimmar and took the first ship/zepplin to Northrend, and as you played through Northrend, there were all those little and big nods to the story you read through while waiting on the expansion to install (or the campaigns you played through yourself), all leading up to a final showdown at the Frozen Throne.
