One thing I really love(d) about the wowhead comment system was the ability to take the good with the bad. I loved reading the discussions that would spawn from certain comments, and often times would find myself bursting out laughing at comments that were downvoted and subsequently hidden. I really dislike this new feature, I can no longer gather a sense of relevance in discussions held in the past or read posts that humorless or witless people have downvoted in their relative context. But perhaps I'm using it wrong, I'm not tech savvy and rarely participate in online discussion, unless it's to express my complaint over a trivial matter like how comments are arranged on a website. Maybe in a month I'll adjust and enjoy it. I wouldn't be posting if I could foresee that happening though.
Why do older replies still have a rating? Wouldn't it be better just to strip all replies of rating?Cheers.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Um, I only just noticed this. Is there no way to edit replies? Please tell me I'm just overlooking something! There is no WAY I'm the only person who ever goes back to their replies and updates/edits them! Also:
Why oh why fix what's not broken? It was so nice and famiiar to scroll down and see '+xx' in green on the right side. It was instant and gratifying. Also, its where our mice naturally lie when mousewheeling down the page (ok righties? idk..) But when I scroll down the page, my mouse pointer is towards the right and it just felt natural to hover from there onto -/+ on a comment. Now its like....not only is it not as visible and cool to see the comment rating ping in green on the page, its also just this unnatural movement to the left to vote up or down. I just don't get why you'd change it. At least keep the vote up/down on the right side of the page? Its stupid to move it to the left.
I'm still confused as to why we aren't able to permanently delete our own comments, as the only answer to my queries on the matter has been an evasive "that's how it's been before".Am I the only one who would like to be able to actually, permanently, delete my own comments, instead of them hovering in some faux-deletion limbo?
Having to make an entirely new comment and then link the comment I'm replying to, instead of simply replying to it is a terrible design decision. This just proves the old adage that designers aren't actually users. Because no one could think that was a good idea that ever actually used this site.As to my previous comment that you weren't understanding:Click on your reputation.Find a line that says you posted a comment.Click it.You are not taken to YOUR COMMENT, like you used to be.You are taken to the last comment on whatever page you posted a comment on. (Edit: If that's confusing, just follow the instructions and you'll see. You wind up at the last comment of however many comments are on the page of comments for whatever thing you posted for originally. IE: If I just posted on Mulgore Spice Bread, and my comment was originally the 10th one in the list out of 75, when you click the link, you end up at the every last of all the comments of howevery ou have them sorted.)That's another proof that the people that designed these latest changes have never actually used this site. There are just some horrible design decisions here that anyone who actually used this place on a regular basis would never EVER have made.
I believe the wasting time/seeing old comments complaints refer to something that has happened with the rep system. For example if I bring up Thunderfury at the end of the comments I see a slew of deleted comments id rather ignore. As an idea for old comments and the people who like to 'correct' them when things change, why not have the rep gained from a comment that survives without getting downvoted away become uncoupled from that comment after a few months? Or simply have a switch that does that to all comments that you can flip sometime around an expansion. For example if I said in Vanilla that Thunderfury was the best tanking weapon and it lasted 5 months at +1 or more then even if it hits a negative the rep wouldn't change. Or when the Burning Crusade Came out you could decouple it then.(Though really it has always been the best weapon to me :)
Two things, sorry if either's been mentioned before:1: Under 'Reputation Gains' under 'Website Reputation' (clicking on your reputation gets you there), the list still includes 'Posting a comment' as 1 point gained.B: And since this is no longer the case, could we get some method to lower our own reputation one point at a time? That way I could get a number divisible by five and keep it, and the ticks would go away./channel Donkey/say Look at my eye twitching!
