Does anyone here remember Terminator? or I, Robot? The moment we let AI take over, humanity will fall. And those who prefer AI over the current writers is absolutely delusional and need some therapy.
They could conceivably use AI to create voice lines for every quest’s text. You know, since their attorneys (admittedly likely regretfully) quashed the volunteer project that did the same.
Lmao, what?https://twitter.com/Marlamin/status/1770702961183707392They're literally using AI to upscale textures. That's generative AI hands down, without remotely stretching the accepted meaning of the term- even if it's being used to do something that it wouldn't be worth the cost to have their talented artists do when they could be making new content.I'm a fan of generative AI personally, especially if it's used to get rid of the tedious jobs that no artist wants to do- but it frustrates me to see them make a misleading statement like this.
Alright, whining about art TOOLS like AI aside, this line bugs the hell out of me;"Our artists used to have to go through and they'd build it for human form and then they'd have to go and retrofit all these things for all the various body shapes and horns and big snouts and tails and all of that. That is just not particularly fun work for them."What is wrong with these artists? Figuring out how the armor fits a different species is fun. It gives you reason to think, and coming up with creative ways to make things work is what artists should enjoy. How disappointing, hearing that they hate one of the more fun creative avenues out there. You don't need to crap out 50+ sets; one really good set is always better. Not that we've had really good sets recently, but still.AI back in the picture, I'm giving my hot take; There is nothing wrong with AI. Its the idiots that rely on it that are the problem. AI art is not a finished product. You've got ingredients arranged on a table, and that's it. It just so happens to look somewhat like a finished product. That's what AI is shipping, and what bad AI artists think is good. Good artists can take what the AI makes and improve upon it. Personally, I just use it to make silly pictures for myself. I don't share them except with a friend who also likes to just make dumb images.
I dont see it as a mayor problem as it just reduces the time it takes to program armor on characters thus making more content faster. The only problem i see with this is that it might get overused and the actual talent that is required for the job is gone and no longer needed, and eventuelly it will be needed at certain times, and this could cause a stop of production because well no one knows how to do the work well without AI.
They should start using it more. It's only a matter of time before it becomes superior to human labor.
If they did feed Warcraft 1, 2, 3, Vanilla, BC, maybe WotLK, and all written material and art into an AI, the resulting vibe would probably be a lot more like Warcraft than the modern game's vibe. It probably wouldn't be about coming together as a family.
I mean use it if it is good, who cares? Consumers just want a good product at the end of the day, doesn't matter if it's made by ai or human.
I wish like 99% of tauren helms wouldnt look so bad
AI is a tool, and too many folks are putting a lot unfounded faith in it. The AI art people are seeing? that is a computer looking at other peoples work and jumbling that into an image, there is an article how in a short time AI has started copying itself and making horrifically bad images. The sad reality is AI has been in our lives longer than most of us realize, anytime you've applied somewhere an AI is checking your resume for 'keywords' BEFORE it seen by an actual human being. That isn't to say there aren't some positives to using AI, again I believe there is an article how scientist are using AI to test sequence for new drugs, but there is a oversight on that. A physical human being reads results and gives it better perimeters to work by.AI is capable of taking the workload down, but it needs to be monitored and so far the type of people who are in charge have shareholder who hear AI can do this or that which means the company is 'wasting' money on actual people and then shooting themselves in the foot when the product starts to decline because of staffing issues and the buyers don't want what they're peddling. It would be foolish to believe Blizzard is above it, but at the end of the day Art like always has to take a backseat to profits, so maybe they're not using AI extensively or at all, but someone in a suit is gonna get a big bonus for suggesting they lay off more workers for this quarter and then leave on a golden parachute then next when they can't meet quota
Good, AI can piss off.
They've been using their own version of Stable Diffusion they call Blizzard Diffusion they trained on their own art. They said it's to do concept art but the recent splash art for Plunderstorm looks very much like it was AI generated.
They definitely should start. Generative AI would come up with FAR better storylines than the gaggle of feminists they have doing it now.
Also, "we use AI to fit armor to tails..."Blizz, tell me you've never played your own game without telling me you've never played your own game.
