Unfortunately Torghast suffers from poor design. I've run it plenty, and having played years of FF14, it is 100% just a poorly ripped stripped down copy of Deep Dungeons. One major issue is class/group balance. Almost every time I've tanked it with a full group it has been an absolute train wreck of sponge mobs and incredibly op one shot nukes. Just bad scaling of a number of mob mechanics. On the other end, I can't solo Tor on my Priest to save my life, but my Pal tank will decimate every layer solo to the point of boring. If I go in w/ my priest to spot heal and a fury war duo, it's hands down the easiest content in SL. If I go in two dps, it's a coin flip. The other part is having zero incentive to run it again. Repeat the same crap every week. 4 runs, you're done, after that it's dead content till next week. Now I thought Torghast was supposed to be like a big focus of SL, but it's not. It's just another time gate mechanic, shoddily ripped from another MMO. Probably one of the biggest let downs of SL, imo.
Not sure what Blizzard did in the last 24 hours, but Torghast feels 500% harder than it was before tonight. Tried to run it with a guildie, who was a prot spec tank, and we got utterly demolished on Layer 3. The only time I was getting demolished solo was the final boss. Not sure what is going on, but they really need to fix it soon. BC it's no longer as fun as it was the first week of release.

First off, I cleared both layer 3 in the first week as enhancement shaman on first week, solo, at around somewhere between 150 to 160 ilvl, cleared both layer 3 second week also, got my bis legendary, so I don't have a problem with the power of Thorgast. Second, I still think it's one of the worst, crappy, pointless and time consuming mechanics of the the game, the only thing worst is The Maw. So stop praising it, it's not the invention of the wheel, people have all the right to be upset about it and complain about it. Being forced into !@#$ty gameplay and systems it's not the way to go.
My best tip is to not rush it. Kill as few mobs as you can and make sure you kill and collect everything for the final boss.
I like how this comment section is getting to the same level as the Binding of Isaac comments on the Hard Mode challenge. "Oh, I got mom's knife in the first item room, I don't get why you guys are complaining, it's super easy". Unless you have a significant amount of clears under your belt, maybe don't comment on the difficulty of a roguelike? It's literally all about getting runs that vary enough on a run by run basis to prevent the mode from getting stale.
Perfect illustration of why it's problematic to tell players who struggle to get good just because your class/spec has an easier time. Let's take a solo mage for example. No kiting? Good luck facetanking mobs and die after 3 hits. Keep in mind mages have no self or passive heal, defensives like ice block does nothing in solo content because mobs don't magically disappear after 10 secs. Invis on arcane is a great tool, but given the lack of cleave, arcane is the slowest of an already slow class that has to drink between every pull (before anyone contests this, play a class that can mass pull aoe + passive heal and compare how much faster that is). Plus, in order for you to drink, you can't keep aggro on anything, and then good luck with the random stalkers that pop up during out of combat after you've used all cds on an elite. Final boss is also very rng dependent. It's easy if you get the rare meme anima powers that buff your burst damage. Otherwise, if you can't kill the boss in 30 seconds or so as a mage, it's gg. Is torghast doable for mages? Yes the majority of times. Is it painfully slow and reliant on rng? Absolutely. I've cleared layer 3 on 4 classes and haven't found torghast impossible, especially with gear. But the high variance in pace/difficulty and rng-dependence between classes is definitely an issue.
For those making comments of only pulling 3k DPS, and can't beat Layer 3...You are underperforming and taking the wrong power (not being mean, just being realistic). At ilevel 158, my 2H Frost DK managed to solo Layer 3 of all 4 wings (last week and this week), with minimal issues. Definitely had one run that started slow and tedious (Mort'regar), but... the ball got rolling eventually. Any run that went and pulled through, was around 4-4.5k killing the boss at the end. In normal 5-man content, I am maybe doing about 2.4-2.7k depending on target count.General pointers:Once you are on Floor 4-5, focus on anything to help your ST damage, and ignore things based around "first time you hit an enemy" or Mawrats: They won't matter for the boss. You get a visual of the boss next to the Floor 3 Broker. While no name is provided, it shouldn't be hard to find a boss list and check what you are going in to.Blinding Smoke Capsules render anything a boss can do, barring AoE attacks, useless. Each one lasts 30 seconds, and has a 10 second cooldown, and cover a HUGE area. If you see them, buy them. They are more valuable than the +30% damage potion. These shut bosses down.Do not be afraid to skip enemies if the encounters look rough.Ravenous Anima Orbs are very useful in some wings. For this week, in Mort'regar, using it on almost any of the Deadsoul enemies will give you Purifying Flame. This turns the ground effects that they leave on death from a negative to a positive. You will no longer be hurt by them, and instead heal from them and wipe them out. This is INCREDIBLY useful. It made the back half of the run a night-and-day difference from the front half. Last week, in the Soulforges, you could get a power via a Ravenous Orb that lowered all Fire damage by 65% (including the constant %HP DoT)! That turns so much of the offense in the Soulforges down, as it's mostly fire-based. Check if a wing's residents have something worth throwing the red murderball at them for, to counter something going through the back half of the layer. This one power can solve survival issues and let you focus on more offensive gains from other sources.Death Knight specific: The Epic anima power than lets Death Gate summon a Knight of the Ebon Blade to assist you, with a 10min Cooldown, is a GODSEND. If you see this power, take it immediately. They will carry like mad.
The thing I don't like about this place is the death count, particularly and most importantly on the boss. You can spend 30-45 min clearing the dungeon and doing everything right, then fail to the boss and leave with 0.Feels a bit harsh to spend all that time and have absolutely nothing for it.I'm sure as gear is upgraded and you out gear the dungeon it will become less of an issue but right now it aggravates me.
