Low level tanks REALLY need a boost to threat. It's crazy how messy the pulls are because Tanks can't keep threat. Not to mention how unbalanced dungeons are with the level squish.
Threat management is a garbage mechanic. It feels to me like the retail team is taking all the wrong pointers from Classic. Adding irrelevant spells back to the book is another one of those misguided ideas.
Personally I'd rather have tanks build threat than just have a 5 way dps race but what do I know ?
lol why is threat attached to the heart of azeroth?
Threat is a non-issue for geared tanks right? I feel like I'm playing a different game.
Aye this is a step in the right direction, still think the damage among tanks need to be equalized
I started tanking at the very end of Season 4 BFA (hadn't tanked since TBC), and frankly, threat generation is an engaging mini-game in its own right. Not only do you have to manage your resource generation and cooldowns prior to major pulls, but also position yourself properly to increase your AoE threat. Especially in M+, I find this to be an engaging part of the game, and if you do well, people notice.Remove that (or make it largely inconsequential) and suddenly, a tank is just a meat shield, mostly judged by his ability to click his active mitigation buttons. Far less fun and far less challenging. To think that threat might be on the chopping block next is, frankly, saddening. It's an important part of tanking that new players must learn and master to be as effective as veteran tanks. Why is that a bad thing exactly?
Yes, I jumped into a maw of souls and it was awful. I was only 21 while others were in the 40's. I couldn't keep anything going...I don't think the dungeons are a good place to learn to tank/heal anymore because you have such a huge window of levels (spells especially). My healer had 2 healing spells and I couldn't top off anyone due to the DPS they could put out.
I don't think that upping the overall damage of tanks helps anyone in any way. There -has- to be significant gap between healers/tanks and dps roles in order to make every role stand out in their respective field. I am a big friend of having the option to dps instead of doing my core role when an encounter gives me the freedom to do so, in order to support the damage roles by a bit.First off: Most of this article is speculation. 11% can be a huge boost or it can be just not enough in which case Blizzard would need to retune again. And to be honest, the threat problem is largely overexaggerated as it was in BfA as well.
does this mean bears can actually hold threat now?
This definitely doesn't feel like enough. Tank dps is really low right now that we no longer have corruption available. I lose threat all the time to my dps, and its extremely frustrating to play. A buff to tank dps would be really appreciated.
I think Tanks should just do way more damage, like it's so frustrating that your dmg just sucks. Nobody likes being a meatshield, I wanna do comparable damage to the dps. Like 80-90%.
Buff the damage, not the threat
while more damage for tanks would certainly be nice, keep in mind that if tanks do too much dps it would nullify or lessen the need for dps in the raid or the group. I am not sure that it is preferable if it is viable to just use excess tanks to negate mechanics on the regular or as a meta pick in m+. it is harder to find a spot as a dps as it is. it is a slippery slope.maybe disregard prepatch balance for now and just see how it works out in the first few weeks of the expansion and then if the balance is not ok raise this point again.
