Except the SL release date was also pushed back. It was originally going to be Oct 27. So, based on that it would have been 3 months, not four. Combined with blizz mentioning a "shorter" season 4, I can see a Jan planned release date, maybe Feb at the latest.

I find the release date meaning anything for Dragonflight's release date unsubstantial.Legion's Prequel novel was released april 12th 2016, Legion released 30th of august 2016.4 months.Battle for azeroth's prequel novel released 12th of July 2018, Battle for azeroth released 14th of august 2018.only 6 weeks before the expac, less tha nhalf of the other.If yo uwant to get depressing,Warlords of Draenor's prequel novel released the 6th of may 2014, Warlords of Draenor launched on the 13th of november 2014.6 months late. yikes Dragonflight in 21 months?

I wanted to see 2022 release, even Dec. 31, just because expansion release on even years fit (?) WoW well.
With a November (earliest) release of a novel, and the prior speculation that Season 3 will be ending sometime in September/October and that Season 4 would be “a bit shorter,” thus landing Dragonflight sometime in Q2, the way I see this falling together is that at earliest, we probably see the 10.0 release late March, 3/21/2023 or 3/28/2023. This would put Dragonflight at a 4/1/2023 or 4/11/2023 launch.Personally, I am ok with this. Blizzard simply cannot afford another lackluster reception. And to give you an idea, I’m one of the few players left who believe that the beginning of the expansion is the best part of the expansion; and I never understood the majority’s desire to rush through the only substantive new content we get once every 2-3 years just to spend the majority of time basically doing the same content over and over just more punishing (the occasional “content” patches notwithstanding.) I live for launch, because it is in those early weeks that the game feels most like it did when I first started playing in Vanilla, where I had 60 levels of pure questing joy and I had no idea what “end game” was (and what little I knew sounded boring). You only get to play through content with fresh eyes once, and Blizzard only gets one shot to win you over. Far better that Blizzard takes the time to put out a fully polished game, that is the best they can publish, and iron out the unnecessary “friction” than rush something because players can’t keep themselves occupied with whatever is being offered to them with “Season 4.” I am pretty sure folks can assuage their grief with the shiny new ilvl that is all the rage these days amongst the player base while we wait for 10.0 to drop. Though I would not at all complain if Blizzard dropped a few micro quest chains (like they did in Cata for Night Elf mages and Tauren paladins) to bring in the new race/class combinations, and use the long tail of Shadowland’s end game to use the game to play through the changes being made to the world.
