Im ready to be the next game director for WoW, let me practice a bit:We are internally talking about it but we are not planning on changing anything for next patch. We received a lot of feedback from the playerbase and we are currently talking about it, but for now we dont wanna change that.Thats something interesting and we are discussing it internally, but i cannot announce anything right now. Thats something we discussed in the team a lot, and we may see some changes in the future.
The entire WoW team is happy how useless NightFae Paladin is :)
Ion is that dungeon master whose game is so bad we have to duck our friend for weeks until he gets the idea that we want a new DM and fresh reroll.
Ion's interviews feel like they're getting increasingly Trumpian over time. Can't really think of a more succinct way to describe it, but it's all these weasel-word responses he gives like "we're looking into that" or "we're considering a lot of things," juxtaposed against continued inaction in the mid- to long-term on critical long-standing issues. It was bad enough when Ion would fall back on his lawyer training to wiggle out of answering important questions, but now it's more like he's just skipped that and gone straight to the "blow smoke up the playerbase's collective ass" option. Promise everything, deliver nothing. Continually feign deafness when the players respond negatively, but also insist you still care about them.Unfortunately I don't think bringing in a new Game Director will fix things like it has in the past. Activision's upper management has taken more and more direct control over the development of WoW. It wouldn't surprise me if a new Game Director adhered to the same "vision" that Ion has been following, because I don't think many of the big ideas like perennial borrowed power or expansion-defining core systems designed to be built up and torn down over the span of a couple years are really his ideas. Just the will of the soulless suits above him. They're hollowing out the MMORPG that once defined the genre and leaving behind a husk that follows many of the same trends of Activision's other "live service" games.
Since I do not enjoy raiding, but like tier sets, I really hope they make tier sets that can be aquired through PvP and m+.
A world where uncapped AoE is still king but only a handful of people get it is not where we want to end up..... why keep some classes with uncapped AoE then?... its plain easy, everyone with a AoE cap or no AoE cap at all, stop the braindead !@#$ of leaving some classes without cap...
They could make it so you can reroll the stats on a legendary with 2 new missives and maybe a set amount of soul ash.As for the AoE cap in legacy content, maybe they could just make it so 'trivial mobs' i.e mobs that are like 10 levels lower than you, can be fully cleaved?
It's funny that they mentioned Raid Utility and CD's but completely ignored Darkness being one of the worst defensive Raid CD's in the entire game.
In summary: "I still refuse to seek therapy for my worsening complexity addiction, and my pathological obsession with systemizing the game so bad EVE players are reminding me it's just a game, combined with my relentless hubris, means you shouldn't expect anything to change in any meaningful measure so long as I'm in charge of the game direction. Expect more systems and metrics to compartmentalize and eSportify every aspect of the game and endgame to be an increasing dogpile of mechanics and affixes until the engine collapses under its own bloated weight."
This all sounds so incredibly lackluster. Most standout thing to me is that he said there will be a 9.2, but it sounds like Blizz thinks that is an achievement, considering he mentioned WoD.If this expansion only gets two major patches, then that is honestly just embarrassing. FFXIV gets 5 between expansions, every time. We are apparently lucky if we get 3.Also ridiculous that Blizz is happy with the covenant system when so many classes overwhelmingly favor one or two covenants.Another thing that really makes me wonder is them not having something like the mage tower planned, when it was far and away one of the most popular features of one of the most popular expansions.Blizzard just can't keep up. They are so damn slow, in everything they do. Even if there wasn't a pandemic, we'd still only just have gotten 9.1, I reckon.
Honestly, even if *only* potency swapped based on spec it would be a huge improvement
thats the most nothing new said interview ever
