This.WoW has no obligation to be compulsively stupid but it's arcs are all about being "safe" first and engaging second. I hadn't know Metzen had done anything writing comics but that explains a lot.In comics there's a constant problem: charismatic villains are worth a lot more than beloved heroes. Without a villain a hero lacks impetuous to act because heroism is largely reactive. Hence the Horde and the Alliance -except that a core Horde concept is that they're "misunderstood." And because they're "misunderstood" they have to have a culture that is simultaneous aggressive and dynamic while also "sympathetic" and I'll give a little credit because when Thrall was around it was at least plausible because Thrall always at least talked (if never really acted) mutual tolerance.Well not so much now. Now we have the King and Queen of the Karma Houdinis Nathanos and Sylvanas who're up there with Arthas for being the latest "justifiably evil" because Blizz is hoping polarizing figures will up subscription numbers. And like Arthas at best we're going to be subject to a crawling, whining worship of them as "great people led astray by tragedy" instead of "gleeful !@#$ing monsters created to piss on everything else in the name of keeping subs about 6 million a month."Like in any mediocre comic book. More "sympathetic" sadists and murderers.Remember, "it matters."Yeah, to the accountants. We're all a very tertiary concern -we should remember that.Metzen comic book style doubtless contributed to why the WoW movie was such hot garbage because like a comic book it was drowning in accumulated lore that piled up like junk food wrappers at a rest stop and couldn't choose between being engaging to new fans while satisfying the lore-obsessions of old ones.As usual Marvel/Disney provided the only good example of how to deal with that and as usual everyone else did it wrong. If Disney buys Blizzard (this won't happen) I at least will hope for good things.
Hopefully you see the quote reply, and realize that there isn't a thing here that will budge me. Prove me wrong and I will accept it, I am not of the opinion Blizzard was ever perfect. But the thing is that I have heard every argument in the book, and it was always done by the same cliche fools online. Which is why you can try all you want, I will be accept proof, I will accept logic, I will not accept "I don't care about the reason". Nuh uh, if you don't care about the lore or reasoning, you don't care about logic, explaining how it is unable to be logical in any given context then you would have a point, you didn't and I doubt any examples people have incessantly brought up before "cough" Kael'thas "cough" will work, there was a valid reason that makes sense as to why he was evil. I don't give a damn what your "care" is or "feelings" are, there is an objective metric for how writing, good or bad or nonsensical works, you gave terrible examples. Don't like the explanations or reasons? Opinion, not fact.
Stop having a lousy victim complex, btw I quoted what you said. Though it isn't like you responding will change my mind.
Enjoy staying in your little echo chamber that disney somehow does expanded material well. (which it doesn't, who was the person formed the First Order again? Who the hell is Snoke? What is Phasma's actual personality like? What's Hux's backstory?) Disney is garbage, Marvel isn't as bad but are the embodiment of quantity over quality generally. The more movies the better I guess, oh yeah, watching fifty movies before having the ability to start watching a single movie is TOTALLY better than what Blizzard does. ("cough" civil war "cough) Killmonger has lousy dialogue that stirs the racial pot, Dormammu is a prop, Hela, Ronan and Red Skull are flat and don't have anything that makes them not be flat or even be intriguing, several of the antagonists names I don't even remember because they didn't have anything going for them. The movies give characters lousy romances that don't bother to be established besides "Hulk is dating (?) Black Widow or something I guess" The only four good Marvel (MCU) antagonists are Killmonger if you remove the race dialogue, Loki, Thanos and Ego. That's it. Disney movies nowadays are terrible even if they don't have expanded material, their expanded material actually makes their stories worse instead of better. Zootopia is a lousy allegory for "don't be racist" without any subtlety and is lazily written in a fashion that makes the characters personalities and goals other than the antagonists "don't be racist" where the antagonists are like "I am racist" and that's it. Pixar is the only good film company left in Hollywood, that's a fact. It doesn't matter if you like or love something, you can like or love whatever you want, craftsmanship is different though. And no, Halo Reach (The novel) was expanded material done well, and wasn't Disney or Marvel. Stop sucking off D$sney and Marvel even though Disney badly screwed the star wars franchise and made it completely irredeemably lousy. Like Blizzard's games the Witcher novels are necessary to understand the games but were published a considerable amount of time before the games or expansions, just like Blizzard's games.
Try using logic, it's good for you. :)
Last post and this is directed to everybody here who is displeased with the writing, I AM NOT SAYING YOU CANNOT LOVE, HATE, LIKE, OR DISLIKE THE THINGS I LOVE OR HATE OR LIKE OR DISLIKE. I AM SAYING THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPINION AND FACT. Now when I say that it isn't me attempting to push an opinion onto you, statements like "Everything is subjective" obviously don't work as that is an objective statement in and of itself, inherently hypocritical. I learned how to be objective in critique not just as a result of my experience but as a result of reviewers (Youtube reviewers obviously) who reviewed some things I personally didn't have any connection to, others I did like LOTR and its movies, but they helped me figure out how to determine things that are objective flaws or something subjective. Yes, subjective complaints exist, you are free to have them, that's not what I am saying. I will give an example, I personally love the Warcraft movie, objectively though it fails as an adaptation, but that's a result of adapting a game that previously didn't have alot of a story before since how they didn't wouldn't work if you weren't extremely familiar. (Orcs and Humans) As a fan it is mostly good from that perspective, from a normal viewer's perspective it isn't. I don't have the level of emotional connection I did for Blizzard's games now, but I won't criticize things that aren't an actual issue. Here's a bad movie I like, The Room, LOUSY movie objectively but still able to be ironically enjoyed. Yes there is a metric for bad writing, WoW and Blizzard's games aren't in that metric, can't except that, your problem alone. And I don't care what circle jerking idiots on reddit or youtube or the forums say, people can agree on something all they want, doesn't make them correct. By that logic alot of people loved the last jedi, THAT MUST MEAN IT'S GOOD. Or that Halo 2's story was bad because alot of people hated it. Doesn't make them correct. The Grey (movie) is another, alot of people hated it but didn't understand it. This isn't difficult to understand is it? And no, the expanded material argument doesn't work, it's still important to the story and writing, I don't care if some idiot believes "the game suffers for it". The game isn't what I am talking about, story, lore, characters and writing is. I agree the expanded material makes it inconvenient, doesn't make the writing criticisms valid though since that isn't a writing thing, the things that were written are still there, it's just inconvenient is all. It's sad I have to explain this, but years of stupidity in WoW's community as well as among players of other Blizzard games are why this needed to be addressed, people are too self absorbed to admit when they are wrong, yeah, admitting when you are wrong is the hardest thing a person can do, I can do it though. Somebody should make a coherent argument using facts and logic to negatively affect my opinion on something. Remember the idiots who freaked out about Xe'ra? Same kind of stupidity in this comment section. Don't bother attempting to convince me if you think it won't work.AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I AM NOT USING AD HOMINIM ARGUMENTS. I would love to explain myself more specifically if people asked questions or if I needed to disprove something to an individual, I am not good at doing that in comment sections, takes too long when there are several people at once saying things without proper context of what they are complaining about. I have better things to do in my life than rot away on a sinking comment section. My other issue? People here are abusive as hell to Blizzard, if you hate the writing... move on? I don't like the Last Jedi obviously but I don't bother bringing it up generally, the only reason I was here was because somebody brought Disney up like it was a good thing. If Blizzard was bought by Disney then Blizzard wouldn't be good anymore. Look at what they did to Star Wars, SOLO BOMBED. HOW DO YOU SCREW UP A FRANCHISE AS ICONIC AS STAR WARS SO BADLY YOUR MOVIES START TO BOMB? Blizzard is the last american AAA company I still like. I have my reasons, of course people pretending to be smart will think their reasons are inherently better and that mine are invalid cuz Blizzard's writing apparently isn't good cuz it isn't. In other words, I am done here, people complaining about the writing here are more predictable and cliche than they think about themselves.
Yai, finally another interesting character joining up with the Forsaken. Ever since Nathanos, they did not add a whole lot of content to them, which is weird considering Sylvanas is the Warchief, but this is some great storytelling. Would love to read more into how this is going to be progressing towards a mixture of both Blood elf and Night elf Dark Rangers, which is really a cool concept. As for the Alliance crybabies. Eat a fat one. You get to assault our city, kill our new ally King Rastakhan and we don't even get to kill Mekkatorque or Jaina, which means we are losing yet another Horde aligned leader, just like Garrosh, Vol'jin, Cairne and now maybe even Saurfang. You only lost Varian, who went down in a blaze of glory and will be remembered as a hero. How did Garrosh go? As someone who will always be remembered as a traitor to the Horde. You have nothing to cry about, and if anything, all of this is good storytelling to make those peace-loving hippy elves finally pick up their warglaives and get into the action. After all, this is why you'll be getting cool facepaint and soulless black eye customization options. Just quit crying, most of you never knew who Sira and Delaryn were to begin with but now suddenly behave like you've all gone through the book and feel like this is taking a piece of your souls.Get over it.
Mymemeers. After About 10 years of using Wowhead, your comments finally encouraged me to create an account.Just to tell you to shut up.Screaming, ranting and raving at people who you believe are wrong because they hold a different opinion is unbelievably childish. You continue to mock them and call them childish because they disagree with how you think the story should be. They aren't even making a response to you, you're attacking them for speaking their mind.Having a decent debate with others is fine, as long as the topic is being discussed. For someone who tries to pass themselves off as being so smart, you would think that you would know hurling abuse at someone does not equal a debate, nor a discussion.
