My favorite WoW memory from 17 years ago was that there was no in game shop and the devs were concentrating on making the game good, instead of sucking the money from their players at the expense of good gameplay.Damn, those were the days.

Alterac Valley and Warsong Gulch are still two of the best battlegrounds they have ever created.If only they had a team dedicated to PvP so they could give AV some love. The current version where people wait for two towers to be destroyed before zerging the boss while completely ignoring the other team is awful. All it would take is some number tuning to make that not happen, but that's too much to ask.They got it right in Battle for Azeroth re tuning so no idea how it became so bad the expansion after.
Warsong is still my favorite battleground. :)I loved Alterac for its epicness, games could last days.

Ahh, I remember the old days of the player created Battles at Tarren Mill that prompted the creation of Battlegrounds (At least that's what it felt like to us). The back and forth, ebb and flow of the battle that then translated to Alterac Valley... back when it was tactical and offered play for everyone, including PvE players, who could just stay back from the frontlines and ensure a steady contribution of stuff from the mines, furs and other items required for the battle changing NPC charges.The AV battles were epic affairs that would go on in some cases for days, just waiting for the right time to unleash the right NPC attacks that could change the whole course of it. The commitment people had to it, the camaraderie as you got to know regular fellow combatants, along with forming nemeses among the opposing players (I still have the severed head of a particular night elf hunter that I had a mutual grudge with kept secure in the bank on my old main from those days. It's an obsolete item with zero uses and takes up a slot, but I won't get rid of it just because of the memories of epic fights it means to me)I lament the loss of those days and changes made to AV. It's been a mindless, faceless zerg rush to get it over with as quickly as possible then rinse and repeat for so long now. People can tell long, intricate, epic war stories about the early BZ's, but you don't get those anymore. Matches are forgettable. Such a shame.
new raid is designed every patch, old one retired. new dungeons are designed every expansion, usually one more mid expansion, old ones retired. new battleground designed once every 6 years, old ones never retired, still playing the same 8 battlegrounds for 17 years.
My fav wow memory is from my very first Alterac Valley match. I played in 2005, hit 60 in the start of 2006. I remember completely obliterating horde as Alliance, as Alliance were kings back in vanilla. We pushed the smelly horde back to there main base. All of us Alliance chads stopped on a hill and mounted up, our in game leader called out to wait and after 30 seconds we mounted into the base and demolished them. I'm sure some horde quit after that match.
Funny to think that bgs weren't there at the launch of the game!I wish they had loads of maps for the same game modes. So you can choose to play "capture the flag" and you get warsong gulch and 10 other maps that have the same objective, but a slightly different layout.
